I had to look up what that means because in Spanish its translation "etnia" is commonly used as a synonym of race. My bad.
Which is the traditional definition of race really.

Why is all this nonsense necessary? For years, the typical argument against using anyone but white people in starring roles has been that filmgoers won't watch. Now that we have more proof (this is just the biggest in a long line of examples showing that it was bullshit to begin with), all of a sudden we need to move the goalposts and do a deep dive into exactly why people saw the movie.I guess the question to exam next is are people seeing these films because they have an ethnically diverse cast? Or are they seeing them because it has an all star cast of action/movie stars like Vin Diesel and The Rock who happen to be ethnicities. Would the same film done as well with a similarly cast diverse cast of unknown actors, or would it have done the same with a cast of all white actors?
Don't get me wrong diversity in everything is great, but if we really want to see change in hollywood we'll need more evidence then just "F&F7 did well with a diverse cast of very popular actors/actresses and reached a diverse audience". Does your average film goer see these films because the Rock is not white? Or are they going to see the Rock who happens to be not white?
Go look at the excuses given for why all of the major roles in Exodus were given to white actors. What exactly is the signifigance of this news? Non-white people attend movies too? I thought we established that already?

We keep getting told that non-whites can't have starring roles is because people won't watch, which isn't even close to being true. When it does happen, studio executives decide that it's an outlier, like Will Smith. You never see studios throwing money at unknown black, Asian, or Latino actors like you see them do with unknown white actors.I've been going to see Will Smith movies since I was a kid. He was(not sure if he still is) an incredible box office draw, perhaps the biggest at his peak. White people have no qualms about watching a movie starring actors that are not white.
Then come December a movie with a core cast made up of a girl, a black man, a hispanic, and a white septuagenarian with a bad leg (and the rest of the white men literally playing imperialist bad guys), will make just as much (if not more). On May 1st Hollywood will laugh when at this when they make over 220 mil opening weekend with a movie with one black dude in a supporting role.
"See white people make more money."
Your lossMy male family members are all excited to watch this movie. I don't think it has anything to do with the race of the characters. They just like action, and fast cars.
I personally wouldn't pay a penny to watch the fast and the furious series:

There's a bit more in the link. So with this and the success of shows like Empire, anyone think there might be some change with Hollywood casting decisions in the future?
They still going to be slow and hesitant to change anything. Until people in Hollywood stop hating minorities not much will change.
He was in the Ultimates universe.Nick Fury isn't even black in the comics...so yes.
All about what the intended narrative is.Why is it when using statistics sometimes Hispanics are considered white and other times they aren't?
Why is everyone arguing about semantics over "Hispanics are white too." You very well know what the author means. Mexico is largely composed of "Mestizo" people whose heritage is an amalgam of indigenous and european traits. And if you want to get technical, most of them have Native American origins in their DNA. If anything, it's the misuse of the word Caucasian, since Afghans and Iraqi people are also Caucasian, but general consensus here in North American wouldn't identify them with that.
Why people get up in arms about this, I have no clue. Furious 7 clearly represents a diverse cast, and Paul Walker is the only Aryan on the poster. The article is on point about Hollywood finally seeing the appeal, and as the latest Suicide Squad cast picture has revealed, more movies are following suit.
This is great news.
Wow.I wouldn't go that far Lol, especially when you have stuff like this in the works: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2404233
The warm fuzzies reading this.Later Samuel L. Jackson, rather than sue, would give Marvel his explicit permission to use his likeness in the comic. It was an instance where a celebrity opts to embrace his fans rather than be a dick about it. Jackson would end up amply rewarded as he landed a TEN PICTURE deal with Marvel studios. A fine example of good karma paying dividends.

Idris Elba isn't going to be James Bond. Not because he's black, but because he's already in his 40s and Daniel Craig has at least another 4-5 years left. The 25th movie isn't even in pre-production yet and it has been 3-4 years between each of his movies. That would put Elba at nearly 50 before his first movie. I don't see that happening at all.
Just yesterday there was some rumors about three Chinese companies looking to fund a Need for Speed 2, and hoping to get it set in China.Only 10% asians?
