FUSE "Echelon" Mode Media and Impressions (MP/Co-petitive)

Those who like R2's coop must be new to the whole cooperative play thing, or something. It gave a new definition to bullet sponge.

It was a great time and had some ambitious ideas, but it felt like a pretty tech demo.

And then Borderlands came out.

(Yeah, that shooter with the cartoony art style and co-op focus)

That was the point. Enemies absorbed tons of damage so everyone had to feed each other health, ammo, and shields or you wouldn't get anywhere.

The beta HP values were too much but the release version was fine.

I've hated on Fuse but honestly that footage looks pretty good. If you were running around with M4s and shit yeah it would be generic but you're not. Generally impressed with it.

that broll just sold me on the game. resistance 2 coop was awesome, one of my favourite coop games.

hopefully theres trademark insomniac crazy weapons.

unfortunately it does look quite generic. looks like standard futuristic millitary shooter. i wasnt the biggest fan of the old cartoony art style, but it was a lot better than this. i hope ea markets this correctly... but i remain skeptical. next year is fucking packed, im afraid this will be overlooked.

Ok man calm the fuck down, your taking this too personally because someone said some bad things about a game you have never played. The game has literally no personality, no soul and looks generic. I don't understand why you have the need to white knight it and attack other forum members.

Ha.

I've played it twice, actually. Once in Burbank back in September, and just last Wednesday at an EA press event in San Francisco.

:)

Still not interested. I'm sure it will be at worst a solid game considering it's from Insomniac, but early next year is way too packed for me to make room for this.

These 8byte Fuse threads always comically devolve into people hating the art and predicting a bomb and 8byte flipping out at them.

Looks extremely bland. Given that Gears hits so close, I just don't see it having any sort of success. Good luck to the devs, but there is effectively zero hype for this game - and I don't see that changing even if it ends up as a surprisingly good game.

Looks quite fun, though I expected no less from Insomniac. Visuals are extraordinarily generic and bland, but it looks fun. I fear for Insomniac's future when this bombs, but on the bright side I'll at least be able to pick it up for $20 a few weeks after release.

People will defend anything. Believe it or not there are Dino D-Day and Revelations 2012 fanboys out there.
And Earth Defense Force.

Fun is fun, and co-op fun can be shit simple and still be a good time. Some games are involved and have depth, others are just like bowling with friends, only with more explosions.

people are hating on a game that they havent played and barely seen. Only on GAF.

Yes, this only happens on GAF and has never happened on any other forum in the history of the internet.

Somebody would only say such nonsense on GAF.

Really? You think THIS is a possible "bomba of the generation"? Can you mail me some of that weed you're going to town on, because it sounds like it does some awesome stuff. The best thing about hyperbole GAF is they're like vegans, they come out of the wood works in droves making it easy to find and ignore them.

Well, you see. There are two games being released by EA in March next year. Both are 3rd Person shooters and both look like this

When a company is releasing two competing products that look the same. Then yeah, there is a risk of a "bomba of the generation" occuring. Hell, two bomba's if GTA V arrives in March.

Fuse on Top. Army Of Two: Devil's Cartel on the bottom

Now when Fuse stops looking like a generic game literally having its design dictated by 12-year olds. People will stop making fun of it. Pretty simple.

Ouch at those pics. Yeah, pretty much interchangeable characters and assets. The "AI" in the Fuse video just left me shaking my head.

Resistance 2 co-op was a ton of fun. But yeah, it could be grindy as hell shooting a big monster for what seemed like forever. At least you were fighting monsters so you could sort of understand why they were dumb as dirt. Here you're supposedly fighting highly trained special forces bros but in the video they are dumber than the Crysis 2 dudes (which is saying something).

I don't get the amount of vitriol this game gets out of people.

You would think the game proceeds goes to pedophiles.

I understand that some may think the game looks "generic" (whatever that means), but wishing the game bombs? Telling people not to buy it without playing it?

The hell people?

I'm sure it has nothing to do with a previously console exclusive dev going multi or anything like that.

For me it a developer taking unveiling a game with character, humor, and and a somewhat unique premise, and turning it into realistic looking modern shooter 3000 of this generation. I honestly can not tell the difference in the above posted comparison shots between it and Army of Two.

What the fuck...

theres another army of two game?

It's that little franchise that just keeps going, despite uh, everything?

I liked the first one though, when I co-op'd with my little brother and we could high-five each other. "Good shit, bro! We got that bro, bro! I love you, bro!"

Good times

I thought with the success of Left 4 Dead that this would be crazy not to release on pc?
Co-op fps or 3rd person if it's a blast can be one of the biggest selling point on pc/steam..

Summer of arcade had an XBLA mp 3rd person shooter and iirc that tanked pretty bad in sales.

I liked the former art style as well as the name Overstrike much better too. The characters in particular Jacob looked more stylish, i agree. But at some point people have to get over that shit, the art style isn't getting changed back. So people are just beating the shit out of a dead horse as it is, but now take it a step further by actively wanting to see a dev fail in their work because you don't like the art style? That seem rational to you?

As for the gameplay, yeah there are common shooter tropes there, so what? They also seem to have the cool/crazy weapons that the dev is known for and a cool looking team mechanic. I'm not even much of an Insomniac fan, but you'd think their so called "fanbase" would give them the benefit of the doubt based on previous work, yet they are shitting on it, hoping it fails so ( as i have heard in every Fuse thread at least a few times) "crawl back to Sony".

Anyway i have much more interest in this game than i did before now that i have seen more gameplay footage, i also think its a nice touch having the characters in different attire in each mission.

I hear ya. You would think this dev has a history of making some of the worst pieces of crap ever. FUSE may not be completely original but it does look to be an incredibly fun game with friends. May not be for everyone but for the most part Insomniac has always made very solid and fun games. Hell, by some of the hate here you'd think this was a Ninja Theory game LOL.

It's the fact that you use the word "trash" like a pretentious ass hat.

This "ass hat" stands by his statement after looking at the B-Roll footage. It's a generic R2 co-op but in a small confined space (as opposed to the huge levels of R2). We're talking about Insomniac here. A dev that has made (for the most part) unique looking games.

And then we get this.

I might get it for the co-op, but I still stand by my comment that it looks like generic "trash."

It's probably still early footage. It looked rough around some of the edges. Fighting the towering aliens in R2 was fun though.

Is this supposed to make you look less pretentious? Because it is doing exactly the opposite.
