Fuse Gameplay Walkthough with Ted Price

"Unlikely team of mercenaries." "Shadowy figure." "Unconventional forces." "Highly unstable." Fighting a "rogue paramilitary group."

Get hyped!

Looks fine to me. The story is a load of guff but most games of this ilk are. Weapons look fun which is something Insomniac is always good at. Liked the voice acting too, it's a step above most although the dialogue seemed a bit overly serious. Still think they should have gone for a humourous tone. Won't be a huge hit and doubt I'll pick it up but hope it does OK for them.

I watched the entire thing, hoping for something fresh or at least particularly well-executed. Nothing came up.

The graphics, the characters, the story, the combat, the "lethal teamwork", the dialogue, even the weapons (usually an Insomniac strength)...all boring. And why do developers of mediocre shooters have a thing for mysterious substances that can make supersoldiers or superweapons? It always ends up horrendously dull.

The market researchers responsible for this game are horribly incompetent. I can't imagine Fuse achieving any sort of financial success.

I remember when the first teaser was released almost no one liked it, now everyone is all "oh noes bring back the brighter style." It's almost laughable the lengths people will go to in order to complain about something on the internet. It's like actively seeking out stuff to hate.

Walkthrough video showing off mechanics, and an intro to the team? "Where's the funny stuff."

Showing off gameplay mechanics that haven't been seen before like leaping from character to character? "OMG this is soooo generic."

The best part is that 80% of the people in threads like these that are acting all grump-style towards this game will end up picking it up.

Uhh, I actually really liked the first video they showed, especially as a huge Ratchet and Clank fan (I have played all the R&C games). Fuse, however, looks mind numbingly boring to me. And no, I'm not going to buy it.

You know it is possible for people on the internet to have opinions that differ from yours.

This looks crappy,Insomniac just to piss of your fanbase even more make a new ip for IOS which is a F2P with online pass as well as a season pass and locked in game DLC for $59.99,thx.

I'm still willing to wait and see for a bit longer, but this still looks like a complete turd to me. Releasing in March next year is also a hilariously inept business decision. This is going to be absolutely buried.

This whole project reeks of failed, AA game that gets mid-70s metacritic that sells ~200k copies in its first month, drops to $30 within two months of launch and ends with layoffs at the studio.

Predicting a 200K debut is actually pretty optimistic.

I have no idea how this one will be reviewed, but yeah, I do get the sense that Insomniac is an AA/A developer that thinks they have what it takes to become an AAA studio, and that Fuse's performance will prove them very wrong.

I wish Insomniac would just stick to making Ratchet & Clank games.

Either that, or retcon the Resistance series and give us a true sequel to FOM.

Looking past the change in art-style and the boring character design (which is hard to do, admittedly) I see a game that shows some potential. If there's one thing I've learned about Insomniac over the years it's that they know how to make a fun game and this one looks like it has a chance to follow that trend. I'm definitely not giving up on Fuse quite yet.

With Gears of War: Judgment being added to the crazy March line up, this game will crater so damned hard that I hate to see what it does to the studio. They need to move this to the Summer or something.

Is the Team leader still voiced by Nolan North? Didn't sound like him

Fuck that was boring.. That game doesn't click for me. The lecture type monologue didnt help.
This Walkthrough really felt like something that was only meant for a publisher or journalists. I guess the average gamer needs something more "flashy"

That is a pretty good idea. JS, hope you discuss this with Ted Price and EA. I'm sure it will be a decent game but I think Fuse is going to crash and burn against Gears, God of War and Tomb Raider.

Some interesting ideas - but for me as somebody primarily interested in single player content, it looks as if I'd lose too much playing this game alone. Setting up stuff with one character, then leaping into another one to get some benefits seems needlessly complicated - compared to a weapon wheel for example. In the end you'll be able to kill everything just fine by sticking to one character anyway, but with so many enemies on screen that could make for a monotonous experience.

After EA:

Top: No One Lives Forever

Bottom: Conflict: Denied Ops

Guess which one I prefer

I went into this video skeptical, and I came away feeling relatively positive about the game.

Yes, I still wish the old art style was here, but I do like some of these character designs for what they are. Although the hair could use some work on the females.

Overall this looks......solid. Maybe better if the story is handled well.

It's funny they're showing the 360 build. Would be a little sad if that turns out to be the better version from a dev that was previously Sony exclusive.

I like the idea of role specific teammates/weapons and the "Leap" mechanic, but the art style and tone just aren't doing it for me. Nothing's jumping out that wouldn't have been more entertaining with the old style. Black hole guns, enemies melting from magma filled crossbows, ca-razy conspiracy/alien tech filled narrative- all would've been more fun if the game was lighthearted in style and tone while riffing on all the concepts/cliches instead of playing it straight. It still could've been violent and had serious story beats, but the vibe would've been much less generic.

Don't forget Army of Two, aswell. I don't feel it would do well if it had a month to itself, but against all of those...it doesn't stand a chance.

Gameplay and story seem boring.

If this was what they were aiming for, even with the old art style, I wouldn't be interested in the game whatsoever.

But something tells me the story and gameplay were altered drastically as well.

and with that we can put the EA conspiracy theories to bed.
Not necessarily. EA could still have demanded certain changes during development.

Didn't realized we had stopped making Ratchet

No disrespect, but I think Ratchet and R:FOM are your best work.

While Fuze has some clever elements to it, I just can't get behind the gore and language. When Overstrike was first announced, I was hoping it would be like Battlefield: Bad Company mixed with Insomniac's trademark weapons and charm. Sadly, Fuze doesn't look like something I want to play.

Regardless, I wish you all the best and I hope you don't end up like Free Radical (a company that I really loved).

Then EA "focus groups"

Before and After
Or you know, Insomniac focus groups.

This is an EA Partners game, EA do not give a shit about it. Did they bro up Shadows of the Damned? No, they're not invested, they don't care, it's up to the developers to make something that can sell.

Saying EA, the publisher, doesn't give a shit about it is hilariously inaccurate and shows you don't know a damn thing about what you are talking about.

It looks like a solid co-op game, but it sadly is not my cup of tea. I can't rely on players to cooperative with my needs, and I don't like being forced to buy the game day one to ensure that I get matched with good players in hopes of ensuring that I get to finish the game before the community dies and there is none left to play online with.

I had similar issue with Borderlands where level 20 and above got real hard playing alone, and when I decided to play online, people were either not co-operating and helping me finish my couple of missions, or I would get disconnected. One of the reasons why Borderlands 2 is not in my purchase list, even though I enjoyed the shit outta the first one up until level 20. With no A.I. (or dumb A.I.), you can't really do much at all.

So you're saying it was EA that caused this change? Why do the other partners get to do all the crazy shit they want, but you have to make generic crap?

Just consider LEAP to be your weapon wheel in SP. it works pretty well, and each character as they progress becomes very distinct in role

Nothing really stood out. I don't see why anyone would pick this game over Halo or CoD. I know its not the same genre but for a new IP, nothing seems appealing about the game, to me at least.

If the game bombs, I wounder who they will blame. EA or themselves.

The implications of this statement are depressing. :(

I really love Insomniac so I want you guys to be able to make the games you want to make. I'm guessing that's a lot harder to do these days, though.

EA partners is a great program that really helps push massive, successful hits such as APB, Brütal Legend, Hellgate: London, Kingdoms of Amalur, DeathSpank, The Secret World and Shadows of the Damned. Fuse will be added to this list soon.
