Fuse Gameplay Walkthough with Ted Price

Wait i'm confused. Kimble is at odds with the leader because he believes in proper justice, but he gets kicked off the force for being extreme?

Seemed like he's not ok with killing Senators, but ok with burning child killers alive.

Not gonna comment on the quality of the character writing, but I don't think the two extremes conflict with each other.

Pretty much he's what would happen if the average internet poster actually meant what they posted in the comments section of tragic murder news articles. :p

I think my post was confusing, I meant EA doesn't give a shit about the art direction, they wouldn't be the ones that made them go in this direction, because their other EA Partners games are often completely wacky. So I took his response to mean that EA did force the art direction shift, but I guess not.

Ok, makes more sense now. Gotcha.

I wish Insomniac all the best. Seriously. But this does not look good imo. And i LOVED Resitance 2 co-op.
'M sure if you give the game a chance he weapons will be fun to use. But then the rest of it all seems so uninspired.
I get the feeling too many people were involded in decision making. Ending up with a mediocre middle of the road game and artsyle. I DISLIKE the art direction in this game.

anyway... Fuck, i do wish you guys all the best so i hope the game will be awesome and a huge succes in the end.

Just seems like a lot of brute force, twitch shooting and sensory overload. I would have liked to see traversal elements, verticality, and finesse/nuance. Roided up weapons and beef-headed characters don't scream "fun."

Dat sweet redhead.

Though I think that was partly because EA didn't really know how to advertise Shadow of the Damned. I remember the marketing for Bulletstorm or Brütal Legend to be pretty solid.

In the case of Brutal Legend it was solid only if you consider a advertisement for a God of War clone... No for a console RTS. Bad word of mouth and dishonest marketing killed the game.

EA Partners is more strange than "only games that matter" and the weird and questionable decisions they made is stuff of legends.

How can I say no to Insomniac. I have regained interest again... But I still want the old style back!

Man

this walkthrough was just so painful to get through

I mean, I really love Ted and crew, but it's like they marked off check boxes of every game/action-movie cliche T___T

some of those shots look damn nice, but I can't help but feeling this has been done before. At least visually, I was way more excited with the previous style. Still really looking forward to playing though.

Turncoats!
Well I don't think he means that, because the time to be upset about going multiplatform was years ago. I wondered if it was a technical consideration, in which it's an irrational reaction, given almost everything we see for games is on 360, so he should be used to it, and it's still on the same engine all the PS3 games were, so it should be technically competent on PS3.

In an interview, a former Free Radical staffer talked about when they walked into a EA studio, to see their "vision" of where the TimeSplitters franchise should go. The room had a huge whiteboard, and EA execs and producers and pinned pictures of Vin Disel everywhere from all his current films, and they were like, "Our research shows that males really identify with this image, so redesign your game to focus on a central hero, etc...etc..."

Looks as though the weapons will save this, like Resistance. The co-op also seems interesting.

But I dunno. I feel like Insomniac isn't gonna last much longer unless they go back to platformers. :(

New engine.

I fucking hate focus groups and consumer research so much.

I knew he looked like Vin Diesel for a reason.,

I still think that with a little bit more of courage EA could have transformed this into a Mass Effect spinoff.

Video was kinda boring. I'll give the demo a fair chance to win me over because I think insomniac deserves that much. They've proven they can make a great game. I didn't hate R2 as much as most and I think they did well with R3 but unfortunately not many gave it a chance. A Crack in Time is still one of the best games this gen.

I have to say...I've never seen one game absolutely destroy a devs credibility on here like R2 did. Insomniac used to be one of GAF's beloved. This game is being torn to shreds and I think if R2 didn't sour manys opinion on insomniac, then I'm sure a lot of this hate would have been withheld until at least trying the demo. It seems most of GAF don't want to even give it a chance.

I'd be surprised if James still posts here by the time this game launches lol. I kinda feel bad for the guy even though its his job to read and respond to it all. GAF pulls no punches.

I remember when the first teaser was released almost no one liked it, now everyone is all "oh noes bring back the brighter style." It's almost laughable the lengths people will go to in order to complain about something on the internet. It's like actively seeking out stuff to hate.

Walkthrough video showing off mechanics, and an intro to the team? "Where's the funny stuff."

Showing off gameplay mechanics that haven't been seen before like leaping from character to character? "OMG this is soooo generic."

The best part is that 80% of the people in threads like these that are acting all grump-style towards this game will end up picking it up.

Absolutely spot on. I was going to post something like this but you've done it for me.

I'm not personally interested in the game I think the art style is incredibly dull and I'm just not into coop in general but I didn't think it looked good when it first announced either. People can't seem to stay consistent and want to whine about nothing and blame EA.

I think Insomniac is a great dev though and a crack in time was amazing it was the first and only ratchet game I've played and loved it. I wish they made another game like that, single player with tons of cool puzzle stuff. Gaf praised it a lot but the crank manipulating time demo is what made me end up buying the game.

This video is exactly what was necessary to help alleviate concerns people had about the game. When the trailer came out people were whining that it didn't show character stuff it was just action with no explanation of anything. Then they put out a long video explaining the characters and all the details of the game and you guys still aren't satisfied. Make up your minds and stop railing against this just because they partnered with EA or you're still mad about resistance 2's 2 gun limit.

That might have been PC. I watched the entire video yesterday and it looks like it will be fun to play with 3 friends. I wish the level design didn't feel like some confined MP map.

Do you have any examples of actual individuals who have done this or are you just doing the idiotic "lol gaf hivemind" thing?

I really don't feel like quoting 20+ people from the other trailer thread + this thread of people saying EA changed the design.

If you don't think people have been blaming EA for the change in design you haven't been reading gaf's reaction.

I still dont know why so many people hate Resistance 2. ok its nothing like the first but it still has the best battle in a fps ever. the chicago bridge battle. God it would of been a no brainier to build on that in Resistance 3....but no, we got something completely different that had carried over no strengths from either resistance 1 or 2.

I will never, ever forgive insomniac for it. never.

Resistance 2 was miles better than R3. in every aspect. call me a dick head, but this is a fact.

over and out.

The post you quoted saying "spot on" about didn't have anything to do with blaming EA for the change in design, it was about people supposedly going "oh that looks like shit" when the game was originally revealed and then going "bring back the old style" now. Thus implying that these two groups consist of the same people, which is the good ol' "gaf hivemind" bullshit argument. There is no "gaf" reaction, there are different people reacting.

I'm getting massive R2 co-op vibes from this footage, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Weapons look fun (I expect nothing less from Insomniac).

Back on the radar for me. The initial re-reveal didn't appeal to me at all.

It was on Wiki that it was an iteration of the same one, but it's been removed. I guess there is some reason for concern, but still, seems irrational to me.

I spoke with members of the engine team, and this is a new engine they've built from the ground up. Vitti (one of the community managers) also said the same.

I don't think there is any major reason for concern as far as parity across versions. Sure, there will be differences, that simply cannot be avoided 100% of the time when the hardware is so drastically different. I find it very hard to believe that we'll end up with a Bayonetta-esque situation where one platform has a vastly superior version to another. Insomniac knows the PS3 well enough, and the 360 is far more straight forward as a development environment.

It is also important to remember that their PS3 exclusive offerings had problems late in the game because they were iterations on a very early engine and that probably left some lingering issues. Sony, more than likely, didn't want to fund completely new engine development, so they couldn't really get away with building a new engine on the budgets they had, hence, iteration.

With Fuse, things are a bit different (from my time spent talking to some members of the development team). People shouldn't worry about "lead platform" or "better versions" this far out. Especially when those very same people aren't day 1 buyers, and will in all instances wait and watch the OT to see which version they buy. It's unnecessary, IMO.

Given your(Insomniac's) history, I expect the PS3 version to be very competent. I was wondering, is there a lead SKU?

As far as I understood, it is being developed within their "development environment" which moves to both platforms. So basically, there is no "lead sku" (as in, they aren't porting one version to another).

Oh Insomniac...

Man this is sad to watch. I used to like Insomniac so much. In the beginning of this gen I thought they could do no wrong.

I thought it looked pretty rad. I really could careless about an artstyle because the gameplay looked really good and seemed fun so Ill be picking this one up

The co-op gameplay looks pretty fun, but Mag Shield seems really overpowered. I assume it has a limited duration, or at least a damage threshold?

I don't but I got Disruptor instead. Took me years to hunt down.

I really would like to see Insomniac do a sequel to this at some point.

Without ruining the fundamental gameplay they've designed already and not listening too fiercely to fan feedback, instead going with their own vision 90%.

Pretty much, yes. It also has a pretty poor range on it's "fire mode". Not to mention enemies will literally rush you down and flank you / throw grenades behind you. The stages aren't really "linear" so just sitting there with your shield up does no good.

1) i want to kill Izzy already. she seems like a complete asshole.

2) narratively ironic that this group is making use of the exact element they want to prevent being used for weapons manufacturing

3) that LEAP ability is amazing :D

This is the first I'm learning of that awesome looking ensemble cast spy game with Ratchet & Clank weapons from the E3 teaser becoming a boring undersaturated sci-fi shlock fest and it has ruined my day.

Damn.

That video bored me. I'm sure it will play fine, but there's nothing jumping out at me saying "YOU MUST PLAY THIS!" and that makes me sad since i love R&C. Art style and tone matters and Insomniac has chosen one of the most dull directions possible.
