G4TV Big 3 Press Conference Grades

I'm totally serious with that. This year was great on all fronts, save some missteps which cost everyone a mark. Also:

y'know, for people who aren't into MAG and the super co-ordinated type of shooter that it is, Sony only has one really big name exclusive game this 2nd half of 2009.

Uncharted 2.

Most of Sony's big exclusives are 2010 titles.

I think that's why some of the press are leaning towards MS in terms of game content for the conference, despite Gaf's surprise.

Halo ODST, Splinter Cell, and Forza 3 were all played on stage and all are 2009 exclusives. (granted, most thought Halo ODST wasn't that impressive but I dug it)

you seriously posted that?

y'know, for people who arent into x, y only has 1 really big name exclusive

Something is not right when I read this article. If you read the text, they seemed more excited by Nintendo and Sony yet in their grades it's Microsoft in first. They had to put Microsoft in first because they are the cool dog this gen?

eh, I think it supports why some in the media are posting grades with Sony trailing MS and most of Gaf seems downright shocked by it.

MAG is a really niche concept that requires serious commitment to make it work. certainly more so than Resistance, KZ or any other 1st party shooters on PS3.

edit: I totally forgot about R&C hitting this holiday. my apologies. that one is gonna be great. it wasn't showcased during the conference so I made the mistake of forgetting about it. that's a major franchise.

It's weird because going into the 3 conferences, I couldn't wait to see what Microsoft and Sony had in store in terms of games, and really didn't have much of any expectations for Nintendo's crazy ass. But coming out of E3, I'm most looking forward to Nintendo's games they showed off. I loved Super Mario Galaxy so I was shocked as hell that they announced a second one so fast. And I can't wait to see more of Metroid. I also am really interested in the 3rd party motion plus games like Tiger Woods and the tennis games after seeing more of it at the conference. I wasn't really interested in Project Natal being that we won't really see much of anything of it until sometime 2010 maybe.

Because MS had the better conference. Nintendo and Sony might have showed more content and better exclusives but MS's conference was pretty much great from beginning to end. Nintendo and Sony's both lagged in parts like Iwata's speech and unveiling of the WTF vitality sensor and Sony's with a little too much focus on PSP especially with 5+ minutes of GT PSP talk without any actual gameplay. Not to mention the horrible showing of the wand with the nervous presenters.

They all did very well. I don't think anyone lagged behind or stole the show. Everyone had a strong showing with good new and old franchises, plus new technology to debut. It was an overall great E3 and should make for a great year of gaming.

Microsoft: A
Sony: A
Nintendo: A

Yes, everyone wins.

I agree for Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft b+, Sony b-(no price drop hurts!), but Nintendo gets a big D for me. No online for Super Mario or Wii sports 2? No Zelda Wii shown. And a pulse reader? Seriously, Ill be selling my Wii as soon as Sony or Microsoft give me a good waggle option for when friends and family come over. I could care less about the Nintendo holiday line up.

Nintendo came across as the "We have 50 million units out there now. We really don't care if you give a shit, this is what we're giving you...." styled press conference. At least with Sony & Microsoft, it felt like a genuine attempt on their part to do a good job at the show.

Be real for a second.

You really have to be a huge fan of the big N to like that conference in any way. You could hate the shit out of Microsoft and still be well entertained by their conference. WELL entertained *clap*clap*clap*YEAH*clap*clap*

Yes, let's.

This is a dumb statement. Nintendo showed off several great looking games.

I find it funny that you guys think, for some reason, that these conferences are made strictly to prove how much companies appreciate their fans.

lol come on dude....

and what happened all in between those...two moments in time.

Each conference had only a few moments apiece (in regards to new announcements), so I'm really not sure what you're talking about.

Then they will give Nintendo a worse grade because they didn't have a new (insert Nintendo franchise) game
New for a change meaning God of War 3, Halo: 3.5, Uncharted 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Metal Gear Solid Sequel, GT5/PSP, Final Fantasy 13/14, Assassin's Creed 2, ...wait, I thought there was something new for a change?

Really.

You halfway admitted it with:

Maintain the course...thats it. All you can do is salute? come on man. You recognize the Microsoft conference was ace right? Let all your favorite little nintendo franchises go and all of whatever Microsoft or Sony had in their conference. Does it really compare? Do you really see matching effort and ambition? How. Just....how?

Kinda sad that it fits for the 2nd year in a row[/QUOTE]

nah. I don't think so.

Microsoft wasn't just throwing shit against a wall like it was last year with the "you're in the movies" bit. the middle "casual" section was more focussed. and natal is more interesting than their party games from last year.

Nintendo showed a lot more core stuff than last year and made a better case for the games possible with wii motion plus and wii fit plus. they still had the most boring bullshit, tho, with vitality sensors and fashionista style girls.

Sony was more confident this year than last and showed a good number of games for this year and next. I wish they hadn't wasted time with Home and had showed more stage gameplay demos but they still have good upcoming content.

No mention of golfclap happy bloke at Microsoft or Sony's forced applause? Oh dear. HANNAH MONTANNA OH YAY!
How do you mean with forced applause? The Hannah Montana stuff were probably just people joking around :) Not quite sure why they did this for the Hannah Montana game though.

But ye, i agree that the clapping were abit "akward" (or what i shall say) some times. To me it felt a bit like when the speaker(s)/talker(s) at the conferences were taking a short break while saying something, that they were kind of expecting clapping, at least i felt it was like this a few times during the conferences.

Forza 3, ODST, Natal

Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid the Other M, New Super Mario Bros.

Uncharted 2, God of War 3

Yeah... you don't know what you're talking about.

Just stop. You dont make any sense at all. This is obviously a bait, so every sane person avoid this argument
unless u want to respond for shits and giggles
:lol

Anyways:
Microsoft: A
Sony: B
Nintendo: B+

spot on, I felt that the sony motion seemed haphazardly put together as well. Likewise, I felt natal was more smoke and mirrors than actual affordable tech, but I felt the presentation was brilliantly managed. Nintendo would have gotten a lower rating from me, and sony should have stayed away from #'s... all their systems represent 30% of retail.. um that's horrible, dumbasses. All in all, good reviews

... my man.

I make enough sense. It really is a easy question for that guy and anybody else who cares to answer. Outside of your fandom, do you really see matching effort and ambition? such an easy question.

It's very very arguable :p

Sounds like they were most impressed with Sony's content, but Microsoft's showmanship was a lot better which is pretty much how I feel.

I agree with this statement as well. But, at the end of the day, it should be the games that determine the conference grade. So it kinda shocks me that most people are giving Microsoft the best grade.

Sony had more exclusives and better ones at that.

I didn't watch the pressers per se, but going by what I saw announced at them, and what interests me I'd rate it:

Nintendo: B
Microsoft: B+
Sony: B-/C+

I'm a little disappointed in the lack of 2009 games shown at all the conferences. My fall is looking mighty empty this year. I loved last year's MS focus on stuff that was coming out that year, but that wasn't well received. And this year they don't really have as much I guess. Next year is totally stacked and gonna be awesome, but short of like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Uncharted 2, and Forza 3, there isn't a whole ton of "heavy hitters" that are going to grab for my wallet.

2010 will be Wallet Murder though.

No it kinda does not.

My assessment is

Nintendo = B+ due to Metroid, Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario Bros Wii

Sony = A for Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Assassin Creed 2 demos and of course Gran Turismo 5 and The Last Guardian

Microsoft = C for not showing Mass Effect 2 but did show some Splinter Cell Conviction which was good.

That or my Saiyd crazy out of his mind lolling. Interchangable they are, but that was good stuff.

sony should've have shown more, i was really let down by their conference.

nintendo's was really boring, but two mario games...forget about it ! winner

Well, here's my verdict.

Sony: Ford Fiesta

It was pretty clear-cut, really. The ranking practically wrote itself.

Just about how I would rate it as well. Microsoft and Sony were both really close for me. Great showing for both, but I give the nod to Microsoft for having so many kick ass looking games. Nintendo was ok, but seriously, they haven't captured my attention since the 64.

Didn't we already have a "king of e3" thread which had pretty much identical discussions? Or is it just that people like giving grades?

Nintendo will never win the enthuthiast press imo. So whatever. its kind of pointless.

What are you talking about? Nintendo was the DARLING of the enthusiast press when Wii came out. If the situation is not like that anymore... well, I wonder why. I think the word 'ENTHUSIAST' might give a clue.

Nintendo basically said... here is a huge game... now we'll talk about Wii Fit... here is another great game... now lets talk about how we are converting people to gamers... here is another awesome game... Now lets check out this vitality sensor. I mean.. come the fuck on. They needed an organizer to streamline their show.

Microsoft had the best managed and presented show by FAR. Sony did the best job with showcasing games, but needed to organize their segments and its timings better. Jack Tretton though was the best presenter in my view.

Nintendo might also look into having some new people present... 'The Reggie and Cammie Show' isnt working.
