If you take care of your phone and don't fucking break it it's not a good deal at all.

You don't get two incidents fully covered for $49. No incidents cost you $100. One incident costs you $150. Two incidents costs you $200. The only way this is a great deal is if you are prone to breaking your phone more than once. It might be an ok deal I guess if you want to save only $50 and you don't take care of your phone.

As per my own example, my wife and I have never accidentally broken a phone. Ever. We've only ever lost one, and I'm pretty sure applecare isn't going to cover that. So, for us it would be stupid to buy the applecare+ on our phones. The problem is we didn't account for apple being shitty manufacturers with a defect in their goddamned water detection stuff.

We've had 4 iPhones thus far. Let's say this specific applecare was available on all of them (it wasn't with our old ones), and we decided to buy it. We'd have put out an extra $800. What would we have got for it? We'd have got a savings of $50 on this one phone. In other words we would have paid $750 in insurance in order to ensure this one get fixed... yeah... shitty deal overall.

Welcome to insurance.

I guess I'm just salty that we did take care of our phone and it broke under normal use, and yet they still refuse to fix it, even though it was under normal warranty.

If your phone broke under warranty, with no accidental damage, you're covered.

Yeah, but I mean... who the fuck is doing these things to their phones? Who's buying this applecare with the thought that they might actually demolish their freaking phone? That's crazy.

You'd also have had 8 new phones for $800, on top of the 4 you bought. If you didn't break any of the phones, you'd only be out $400. And that's how insurance works, you pay for the "what if".

...then don't get the insurance? I don't think you understand
I think his point was that with out insurance you pay $200 out of pocket as opposed to $150 with insurance. A $50 savings isn't that much of an 'insurance' if you know what I mean.

It would be a better deal if apple made you pay the full price of the phone without insurance but they don't. Regardless I'm glad that Apple doesn't do that.

Sounds like Angelo knows you committed insurance fraud and is subtly trying to let you know that if you do keep pressing the issue with police/FBI threats, he'll bust your ass with insurance fraud. I would drop it at this point, but it seems like you're determined. Good luck!

You pay $200 in some cases, not all.

OP, you most likely fucked yourself over by doing a PayPal chargeback on them. They know you committed fraud and now you chargeback on top of that?

If your phone broke under warranty, with no accidental damage, you're covered.

The problem is that a single tripped water sensor is considered "accidental damage," even though the phone has never been submerged or dropped in water at all. So no, it's not covered. At least I couldn't get through to the goddamned apple genius at the time. Again, the only possible scenario we could think of was that her having it in the same room while she showered with the door open and everything tripped it, but even the apple genius guy said that's normal use and that shouldn't trip it.

But most insurance does not cover things like your kid throwing your iPad in the bathtub, or dropping your iPhone and having it shatter into pieces - I don't know of similar coverage options for phones / tablets (never really looked into it though).

I don’t know who the fuck you are threatening kid but you need to realize one thing. I do not respond to threats and in fact, if you would have told me in a gentlemanly manner that you didn’t receive your phone back I would have jumped in somebody’s ass first thing in the morning because since I didn’t hear anything yesterday, I assumed you got it back already. Now, since I have decency I will see what happened and let you know as soon as I know something. Once your phone is back in your hands, I will take action towards the moron that didn’t get it fixed and returned to you in the time frame that I specified before I left. I DO NOT fix the phone’s and I am not a micro manager. If there is an issue I will get it resolved. By looking at the order notes and your e-mail’s, I’m sure you pissed off someone and they put your claim at the end of the line. There is an old saying, you get more bee’s with honey than vinegar. Now, if you want to have whatever police chief and a chief justice come to Florida and try to throw some weight around, I welcome it. Shit, I would be fucking astonished and buy you a new iPhone myself. I mean, I’m sure they have nothing else to do but run with you after a $500 phone. But then again maybe you’re the guy who will beat a bitch down for $5 on principle... Grow the fuck up and realize that threats get you NO WHERE! I could threaten you with an insurance fraud claim and prosecute you here in the state of Florida as well as Federally then get an extradition warrant since your device was broken before you purchased your coverage with us. You’re right about the features of an iPhone, it tells us exactly when something first malfunctioned and everything... BUT, I’m not some punk ass kid that likes to blow hot air. As a MAN, I will tell you that I will honor my business reputation and get your issue resolved as quickly as humanly possible. Since I am not in Florida until Friday I will have to do this via phone and e-mail, but it will get done, and when I am back in Miami, I will discipline or fire the fuck that caused us to have our little e-mail pissing contest. Have a good night, and I apologize for the unprofessional behavior of the of the soon to be fired asshole that was supposed to get your phone to you by Monday.
Brilliant. I love this man.

Still 100 bucks is a lot considering I still think we deserve an actual replacement since it broke through normal use...

I am sorry, but people like you drive me crazy at my job.

The basic guidelines to the warranty is simple: no physical damage or water damage. If the sticker turned, odds are sensitive conponents were damaged so it is no longer garantied. Even if you don't agree with the logic, you probably did in the terms and conditions.

You don't deserve anything based on your subjective iterpretation of "normal use".

I hope your hilarious attempt to save money and cheat an insurance company will teach you a lesson.

It shouldn't. There are other ways of inspecting for liquid damage. I would call the AppleCare number prior to going in the store and attempt moving up the case, if there is no liquid damage.

RDreamer and the OP are different.

I know officially Apple does not replace the phone for $200 for accidental damage like water damage but unofficially I haven't really heard them denying customers... Especially if it was your first accident.

wat. I'm not the op. And again the wife and I can think of absolutely nothing we did with the phone outside of the shower room stuff, which we think is normal use (when you're expecting a freaking call you have to have it in the room sometimes, you know?), and the apple genius even said that's normal use, too.

Hmm... Guess I'll have to look into this. I'll have to look into the timeframe now, too. Her phone might be out of its year warranty now, unfortunately, though they do have a record of us coming in for that problem, so I'm not sure how that'll work out.

Another great GAF thread backfire! All of these threads shoul dbe kept somewhere so everytime somebody posts '...nobody could ever bed that stupid!' we can point them to threads where people actually are, that stupid.

bravo op.

I think Angelo was very professional considering how annoying and illegal everything the OP did was. Angelo still is claiming someone at his company messed up, and is giving the phone back. Definitely much more than i would do. Amazing that it's Angelo who actually should be calling the cops instead.

Yeah, that's textbook insurance fraud. Applecare is not expensive. Also, stop getting your phone wet. If you say you didn't get it wet, stop getting the water damage indicator wet.

*Slow clap*

This guy. I like this guy.

The second I read that he bought the coverage after the phone had issues, I was like oh boy, GAF is going to have a field day. Sure enough!...

Seems like the guy probably would have eventually came around too. Oh well, certainly fraud, though, intentional or not. Burned any bridges by getting that refund too. Good luck getting that phone back. Any notification of authorities is also going to easily expose the fraud too via self-incrimination.

In a mirror universe where Detective-GAF has carte blanche, this thread will soon become the most entertaining thing in GAF's history.

In any case, the guy from the company is MOTY.

If you take care of your phone and don't fucking break it it's not a good deal at all.

I have seen tons of people with iphones with cracked screens. They just keep using them because they're stuck for the rest of their contract and can't afford a repair(usually younger late teens early 20's). Maybe you don't drop your phones ever but there a ton of people who do.

You think that's bad? I'm waiting for my Coffee after I bought an eightball last night and still waiting on it. I leave in an hourish too

Edit: $900 here for that btw

Well this here might be one of the most thorough backfires I've seen on gaf.

Pretty sure slick7rick is sweating it out in his closet, listening for sirens.
