BAAAALLLINNN'
Not interested in MVP College Generic Baseball, but, what will you fellas be grabbing this spring for virtual beisbol goodness? I am interested in potential league play. :)

Reviews are looking favorable for MLB 06 so far, hopefully MLB2K6 isn't the same game we got last year.

I'm picking up 2K6 for the 360 when that hits.

I liked last years 2K title (after adjusting sliders where needed), despite some flaws like the magnetic infielders (so GOD DAMNED hard to hit a ball out of the infield) I really liked it.

Besides I'm not crazy about filling up an entire memcard for a baseball season on the PS2.

As for NCAA: METAL BATS IS NOT BASEBALL!

Right now I going towards MLB 06 on PS2 (and maybe PSP). I liked MLB '05 (the Chavez cover), didn't play last year because of MVP '05, but now I need an MLB fix. MVP though is only 23.99 at Circuit City this week I think which is also tempting. And hey, if the 360 version of 2k6 is somehow actually good, I'd think about getting it. I love me my baseball games.

I will probably try them all. The thing is...like most sports games you really can't trust reviews. MLB had several game breaking bugs on PS2 last year, but their PSP game seemed very solid.

I'm definitely picking up the PS2 game first on Weds., I'll be back with impressions. 2K6 on 360 is pretty much a lock too.

If you're really hardcore and into seasons, there are mods for the Xbox version of MVP05 out there too.

MLB2K6.

Just hope they take care of the bugs this year or I'll be using the slider fix to ease my way around the bugs again. And on that note, who will be doing the play calling this year? Its a shame EA had to pull the ESPN thing away from TakeTwo,both John Miller and Joe Morgan did an amazing job with last year's game.
2 of my friends just got around to picking up last year's game and we play online, pretty neat.

I just hope that for this year they fix the online bug where if you attempt to try to lead off over at first a few too many times-it'll hand a win over to your rival. The game asking your rival if he or she wants to quit and get the automatic win because "youre holding up the game" is one of the stupidest bugs I've ever seen. I lost alot of close games last year because some people thought it was cool to punk out like that.

MLB '05 was pretty great on the PSP. But since I've got a 360, it's a no-brainer...2K all the way. Unless it royally blows, which is a distinct possibility.

And Angelus, Miller and Morgan are back, despite the loss of the ESPN license.

MLB 06'. Looks like a title that i've played before (MVP 2005) and that is a very good thing. Picking this bad boy up tomarrow.

I'll rent 2k6 for 360, I'd rather spend $40 on TS2 in April.

Im looking foward to your impressions, hopefully the game is bug free! .MLB was a great game but I could never finish a season >:|

Very damn nice. I dunno how they managed that but thats a damn good thing to know. Thanks for that good news.

Could you throw that out a few hundred more times? Plus you can use wooden bats in MVP 06. Say that again and I will post screens of Rosie Odonnell from Exit to Eden that will burn your eyes. :D

Anyway MVP 06 is great but I will also purchase 2K6 for the World Baseball Classic.

I am going with both MLB 06s on PSP and PS2. I just like their realism to tell you the truth. MLB 2K5 left me with such a bad taste in my mouth, I saw games with 20 homers without slam zone. :(

He's right.

Had you played nice it could have been Dana Delaney (the MILF before MILF was even used)

Well Rosie did use Wooden Bats in a League of their own (you know REAL BASEBALL as defined by YOU). I just figured it seemed fitting for having to see that crap mentioned over and over and over.

considering MLB 2k5 was (at the time) the worst sports game i had ever played, there is no way i'm touching MLB 2k6 even if 2K sports decides to send me a free retail copy. i don't think i'll get MLB 06 either, tired of using shitty ass PS2 online, and online is the only reason i'd buy it.

no baseball for me this year. thanks a lot exclusive deals + MS not making MVP backwards compatible!

Sort of OT, but I wonder why MS doesn't try to make an MLB game for 360 now that the competition is less severe (which I think was their reason for dumping their sports before). Seems like an opportunity to grab a big share of the market now that Take Two is the only third-party MLB game left.

I guess though that the investment in creating a next-gen baseball engine from scratch might be too prohibitive but to me, having just one choice for 360 sucks. Hopefully though we'll see a PS3 version of MLB next year which will give us some next-gen competition.

Sucks for you, man. The jump from crappy NBA 2k5 to best basketball game ever NBA 2k6 (360) was incredible. That's kind of like me saying "Madden 2006 (360) was the worst football game I have played in recent memory, so I'm not going to even play 2007, despite the fact that I know next to nothing about the game."

except, MLB2k5 was $19.99 and Madden $60

Your loss, though. Me, I like to wait until the game comes out before I decide that it's trash.

I'm jumping on THE SHOW.

I'll buy MLB2K6 on 360 if it is 30 bucks or less. No more. MLB 2k5 is pure garbage.

nba 2k5 and nba 2k6 were essentially the same game. they fixed some stuff, but there were still major gameplay problems (i.e. chicken with its head cut off style offense and so on)

and yes, your comparison would be a good one if madden didn't have a fantastic track record. the MLB series (and the NBA series for that matter) seem to have gotten progressively worse, not better.

with madden, you have arguably the greatest sports game ever created (madden 2006) and then you have arguably THE worst sports game ever created (for its time) in madden 360. the reason i will buy madden 2007 360 is because of the issues and problems surrounding madden 06 360's release. getting it out for system launch, new hardware, not much time to work on it, etc. now, if madden 2007 360 is still shitty, then we have a serious problem.

bottom line is i have seen videos of mlb 2k6, and it still looks like the same bullcrap from last year. i'm too tired of talking about it, so if you want to know the major issues a lot of people on the board had with the game use the search function. i have no confidence in VC to fix these problems as they have never adopted such policies in the past with their games (to the extent that MLB would need to be fixed, anyways)

I bought MVP Baseball for Xbox and I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed. The franchise mode is not particularly good and the fact the manual is like 5 pages in black and white (with basically no instructions for controls to help out someone new to the series) makes me think that this was a total rush job. It doesn't even seem to do anything to your EASports Bio either which is minor, but annoying.

I had MLB for PSP last year and was a big fan, but ditched it when I sold my system. Don't think I'd bother with the PS2 version though as the big appeal was the portability. If they improve the franchise in it though this year (allow you to play another season, etc.) then it'd be tough to beat.

Well firstly as someone who owned and played NBA2k5 and 2k6 extensively, I can tell you they are nowhere near being "essentially the same game." There is almost NOTHING in common between the two.

The MLB/WSB series has a great track record, albeit one that I don't agree with the majority on. Madden 06 was obviously rushed for the reasons you stated, but can't you see that MLB2k5 was similairly rushed? There was no new console but there was certainly the need to put the product out there before in a timely manner with regard to the competition. I'm no MLB diehard by any means, in fact I haven't played a baseball game I consider to be all-around quality, maybe ever? They generally don't get the same love as basketball and football games for whatever reason.

That said, NBA 2k6 was enough to convince me that the next baseball game might be worth at least playing.

Even though the 2 games are being made by 2 completely different developers?

"Hey guys, Resident Evil 4 was enough to convince me that Final Fight: Streetwise is worth at least playing!"

i should confess that i am no basketball expert or purist, but i know the sport well enough. i played in GAF leagues online for nba 2k5 and nba 2k6. there isn't much difference between the two games, and yet you say they have almost NOTHING in common? how about the following that they do have in common:

1. no true defensive stance button
2. "run around with any speedy player for 20 seconds and then go in for a layup"
3. no interior defense
4. "dunk through a player" animations (i.e. dude goes up for a dunk, there is a guy there to block it, but the dunk animation still happens without consequence)
5. no seperate pause menu's online (how hard is this VC??)
6. no "divisions" for online play
7. no incentive for mid-range game rendering many top notch players useless (elton brand anyone? i know from experience!)
8. ridiculous AI "subbing" logic

i'm not saying nba 2k6 didn't improve, but the game was still pretty broken on 360 and xbox. you are free to disagree with me and i'm sure you have a laundry list of things that were changed. i should also note that i dont play this, nor any other sports game, for its franchise/season modes. therefore, sliders cannot be taken into consideration (even though VC had said they would allow online sliders in league play, which was a lie).

about mlb being rushed, couldn't the same have been said about MVP baseball, by far the greatest baseball game of our lives? they were "under the gun" to get the game out as well. it's not like VC was working with new hardware or anything.
