GAF: Destiny on Playstation 4/Xbox One

Is anyone else annoyed with the Crucible? It feels like there are so many cheap ways to kill people. Every other death is from a charge or vehicle.

It needs to balanced yes, but i'm having tons of fun atm

Yeah the big ass flying tank in the moon map is too op lol

I have both systems and am going with the Xbox One version now. I played the Alpha on PS4 for a few days, Played the Beta when it came out on the PS4 everyday, but within an hour of playing the Xbox One version, the controller is so much better for shooters that I am going with that version. I actually was playing better as well due to the controller.

I also agree that I really cant tell much of a difference visually other than there seems to be a bit more jaggies, but nothing horrible. As I posted before, I would prefer that Bungie keep the game at 900p, add more aggressive AA solution and other things while maintaining the smooth frame rate.

Exactly how I feel and my friends are on the X1. Gonna be a Bungie holiday with the MC collection as well.

Xbox One here. Almost went with the PS4, but I have more friends on the Xbox One, prefer the controller, and don't care overly much about the exclusive content.

Is ******** reliable? I ask, because the pre-order numbers for PS3 and PS4 combined, compared to X360 and XB1 combined are not very different.

PS4 - 530,454
PS3 - 80,562
Combined - 611,016

XB1 - 406,188
X360 - 162,049
Combined - 568,237

Edit: Sorry, I think my question was automatically answered when I tried to post this. I was apparently referring to the website that shall not be named.

Is Art Vandilay even your real name?

:p

Yeah i posted this already on the Xbox one thread.
But maybe some Ps4 gamers they don't like to read "xbox one threads" want to watch this too ;)

I made another Graphics Comparison of the Destiny Beta.

So many Xfriends yet the sales are so shit. I don't get it.

Well, there are obviously more, erm, let's call them "xbox fans" in this thread who, in addition to an Xbone (which they purchased early on and at a high price despite everything) felt the need to also purchase a PS4 (in order not to miss out) and who consider Xbone their primary console than the other way around. As indicated by the sales, many PS4 owners appear to be perfectly happy with having only a PS4, and have thus far avoided Xbone for a reason, but the OP didn't address those people.

Why does everyone seem to have friends that bought the Xbone but few people cite "friends" as reason to buy the PS4 version (even though there are a lot more PS4s sold thus far)? Apparently us poor PS4 owners don't have friends. ;_;

I'm thankful that my friends are informed of the hardware differences and the content differences in Destiny and therefore plan on getting a PS4 to play it.

If my friends wanted to play the lesser version of the game I'd tell them to have fun with that but count me out. I don't settle for a game that performs/looks worse/has less content just because my friends didn't do any research into what they were buying.

Would adjusting the brightness make them pretty much identical? Or is there more to it that I'm not seeing?

Yeah its almost the same, but if you look closely you can see the tiny difference.
In some scenes (look for the green trees or rusty cars) its a little more washed out.

I'm looking forward to the final build in native 1080p.

Uhh... What? Why does this matter?

What's to say that people who are choosing it on the Xbox One don't know about the differences?

Heh, another simple/basic thread with console wars. Can't say I'm surprised though.

well done! They look identical to me besides the "crush blacks" which in some scenes I prefer and others look too dark.

To me the most important thing is to play it with family or friends if possible.

After that, I'd think about the long run. The PS4 is more powerful and has sales momentum even in the US. According to the court documents Destiny has roughly a ten year plan. So this year Destiny might not look much better on PS4, but Destiny 2 (With no last gen versions limiting the scope) who knows how big of a difference it will be.

In a perfect world you could choose your preference and dictate to your brother. But I'd make sure you can play with him if possible even if you would prefer to play it on PS4.

You don't understand what crushed blacks mean or looks like if you prefer it...

What are you trying to say? Btw, what is the size of this community?

I'm pretty sure what he is getting at, is that it strikes him as odd that the PS4 is drubbing the Xbone in sales...yet so many people use the "all my friends have Xbones" reason for buying an Xbone version of a game...

When sales numbers would indicate that more people should have PS4's but you rarely hear the "all my friends have PS4's" reason...

I'm torn.

I have 2 years of Plus on my PS4 but have to probably pay retail for the game.

My Gold runs out soon so I will have to purchase a year but I have almost enough Gamestop $5 money to cover the cost of buying the game digitally.

Decisions, decisions!

I'm thankful you're not taking it for granted.

I don't have one IRL friend who plans to buy a PS4.

holy crap.

I don't think this is just a 900 vs 1080 res difference...PS4 looks way clearer and more detailed. I mean yeah Xbox One version looks great but this just reinforces that PS4 is the definitive version IMO.

Nice video! Well done...I really like the 'light switch' editing, and wish you would have kept it up through the latter half of the video.

The sales difference in the US isn't big enough (yet) for it to be strange/odd. There's many people with both consoles.

Either way, why does it even matter? There were people who bought multiplats on the PS3 for similar reasons. Not everyone's group of friends is representative of the difference in overall product userbases.

Exactly.

I've been saying the same thing in one way or another and it's not a popular opinion, at least in this thread. Prepare to be vilified. You'll find that controllers and friends are THE determining factor to the vast majority of the people here getting it on the Xbox One and they take them both SERIOUSLY.

Yeah, and that's their preference. People had similar preferences last gen when it came to buying multiplats on the PS3 (e.g.: the controller's better d-pad vs. the 360 controller, PSN friends, etc.).

Why does it matter so much to you?

So people who are getting the game on the Xbox One automatically don't do research on products? You seriously think that?

This elitism over someone's decision on what console to buy a multiplat for is childish and amazing at the same time.

This. Sales would imply that the PS4 would be the more likely system to experience the "friend factor" since, by all accounts, more people own it. Yet, whenever a thread asking which version of the game people will buy pops up we see an overwhelming number of "XB1 because friends" posts in comparison to the meager number of "PS4 because friends" posts. I found it to be very puzzling.

That ... actually makes perfect sense. Excellent point. You sir are a scholar and a gentleman. I don't know why this didn't occur to me but my befuddlement has been eased. Thank you kindly.

It's a little odd. I dunno, I have friends that own BOTH consoles, though most of my friends just have a PS4

And it's not like it's difficult to MAKE friends (like on GAF) and have plenty of cool/new people to play with.

I seldom play with friends in real life because we all have way different schedules and they're not as hardcore as I am.

If the game not only looks better but also has more content, it sounds like a really easy decision to me and it's a stretch to use controller preference (which is BS to me, as both controllers are perfectly capable of playing shooters fine). But whatever, these people have their console preference and they're going to use every excuse in the book to justify why they're supporting that version, and it will be the same reasons used for every multiplatform game...and that's their right, I just think it's a little irrational.

Someone's personal preference is automatically an "excuse" if it doesn't match yours?

I'm in the same boat. When my friends are actually online, they're playing either Madden, FIFA or COD. I like Madden and FIFA in small doses, but I prefer Battlefield any day over COD. That being said, I don't actually play online with my friends much, and I've been pitching Destiny to all my friends to pretty much no avail.

I almost want to decide which platform to play it on after Christmas, because they're split pretty evenly between Xbox and Playstation (and many haven't even taken the next gen leap). And even when/if they upgrade, I don't know how many will be into Destiny as much as me.

Not in all circumstances, but I think it's a real stretch to say something like "PS4 controller is awful for FPS games and the Xbox One controller is sooo much better which is why I'm opting to get the version that performs less and gives me less content for the same amount of money"

I don't think it's a stretch if someone actually feels that way. Know some people have a strong preference when it comes to analog stick placement for certain game genres (I.e.: shooters).

Made mention of it before but many people bought fighters on the PS3 due to the controller's d-pad even though they performed/ran better on the 360. Nothing wrong with it. Makes sense to buy a competitive game on a system you think you'll be a better player on.

Maybe I'm just from an xbox part of the country but when it comes to playing online most of my friends that play online have Xboxes. I have two friends that have PS4s, 3 with both (like myself), and five with only an xbox. The guys with both usually go Xbox on online games because that's where our Xbox only friends play. Shooters, sports, and maybe the occasional GTA. Much more casual crowd but the games they play are usually online heavy.

I don't see what's so hard to understand about that? Why wouldn't you want to play online with your friends. I've had a decent time with gaf members but some of my favorite online memories are with my close friends. People keep pointing to performance like it's the be all end all but I doubt it keeps you up at night playing a PS4 that looks slightly worse than a PC game, why would it matter to any xbox owner that their game looks slightly worse than the same game on a console they won't even play it on?

On the contrary, the only differences I see is due to resolution and the RGB settings between the respective machines.

Look forward to a comparison between the final builds of each version.

Did 360 fans ridicule PS3 gamers last gen for buying the terrible multiplats or something? Where the fuck is this hostility even coming from?

Did 360 fans ridicule PS3 gamers last gen for buying the terrible multiplats or something?

yeah, there was a lot of back and forth and some almost comedic defense of early PS3 ports. Lots of "lazy developers" and "i actually prefer the softer look of the textures"

that sort of thing.

This time, the shoe is on the other foot - so to speak.
