GAF, give me a haircut

Some setup, I've cut my own hair (by just buzzing it off when it gets too long) almost my entire life. The last year or so I've been going to an actual stylist and getting it cut, which is great but I have a problem.

I usually just give them free reign to "make it look nice" but this kind of ends up with me getting really bland cuts most of the time. I've pretty much just been given The Male Haircut™ (slightly longer on top and blended on the sides), which I feel like doesn't actually flatter my face that much.

The main ussue is, I don't actually know what I want. I've tried getting my partner to pick out a haircut for me but he didn't actually do it and just had the stylist do whatever they wanted (which made them think he was my dad).

I need an objective third party to come in and give me some advice about what kind of cut you think would look good on me and the best way to ask a stylist for it.

Here are some pics of my head fresh out of the shower. I haven't cut my hair in a little over a month, I plan on going in next week at the very least to clean it up:

Additional deets: My hair is usually a little on the dry side, and sits somewhere between poofy and wavey. I typically don't do anything with it since my job requires a hat, but I'm moving to a job that doesn't so I need to have better standards for my hair going forward.

I wash about 3 times a week and always use conditioner, but I feel like my hair is still too dry that 1-2 days after washing, so any recommendations for shampoo and conditioner are welcome.

I've also never owned any product in my life, so let me know what I should get. I don't really like the "crunchy" feeling my hair gets with the product I've had in it in the past, so if there's anything that can be used to style your hair that doesn't do that let me know.

Mock answers are also fine too. Thanks GAF :)

Not too much to work with up there. I'd say get a fade and style the top with some wax.

Kinda like this but a little short up top.
I'm also willing to give my hair a few months to grow out if I see a style I like that requires me to do so. I think I'll end up falling back onto the side-fade if I have to, but I feel like it makes my face look really long (which is maybe for the best since I'm a little chunkier than I usually am right now).

The other problem though, is my face is wider at the jaw than at the skull, so the fade gives me a sorta upside down mushroom look almost

No offense but that's hilarious :lol

Doesn't look like you really need a haircut TBH

Hmm, idk then. For product, I use:

We got you, fam.

Buy a Switch.

Paahhaha, fuck. You caught me off guard with this one.

I think you'd honestly look good in a pompadour of sorts. You got a Perdy face boy, and your rounded features would get a little lift from it

But seriously look at some photos of hair styles and just show them to the cutter and ask which one would work for you and get them to do that. Obviously undercuts are very popular but try and get a range of styles since not everyone can pull off the same haircuts.

Shadow fade or fade with hair on top mayne. Style as you wish.

Find a black barber and let us know how on fleek the cut was. Chances are he'll be invited to your wedding by the end of your line up.

Hmmm.

Out of curiosity, how often do you shave?
Once every two days. My facial hair only grows under my jaw and above my lips. It looks bad.

You should do the Gordon Hayward. Did wonders for his boyish looks. That and about 40lbs of muscle.

Thank you guys! I like these suggestions. I'm gonna get my hair cut this weekend a post an update.

I try to do this but it's hard for me to imagine how a haircut will look on me when I'm looking at models. I need that thing from Clueless where she slides a bunch of outfits over a picture of herself, except for hair.

do this and grow a light beard like the gentleman in this picture, just do it.
God I wish I could. Then I wouldn't lose my jawline when my weight bumps over 185 :(

Grow it out more?

Also your smile really lifted that last photo :)
Thanks! I was trying to look more neutral but I realized it just looked kinda creepy so I started smiling halfway through my selfie shoot :)

Ya'll are right in that I don't have many options given my short hair. My hair is tough to grow long because it just grows "out" into a poof. It's like Michael Cera's bad hair in Scott Pilgrim. I'm gonna get some wax and actually try styling it regularly, it'll probably be a lot more tolerable. I think a high fade long on top is the way to go (closest to Ray Wonder's pic, I think).

Thanks dudes.

If you want to do a new shape, try a fade OP. Worst case scenario is if you hate it, just grow it back out. Ratio's gonna be decent regardless and you can work from there. They don't work for everyone, but it's a starting point if nothing else.

Having trouble telling from the pictures, but is your hair thick or thin?

Pretty thick. Every barber I've been to has said I have "nice, thick hair". Despite assuming they're just fishing for a nice tip I'd agree with them.

"fade" wtf

#3 clippers back and side, short on top

done.

Every 3 months or so.
That's kind of the haircut I've been getting (you're looking at a slightly grown out version of that in the op) and I'm looking to switch it up.

Three months?! What about neck hair?
God I wish I could just get that hair lasered off. It looks awful and grows in so quick :(
