GAF, how do you clean your controllers?

I don't clean my own personal controller because I wash my hands before every single time I play.

The guest controller (or 2nd controller) I just clean with a damp rag (water).

Clorox wipes and a dusting cloth is a must. When I go to Smash night with friends I bring a container of Clorox wipes to wipe everything down before, during break, and after.

I'm in the minority (maybe not?) of people who can't stand dirty, greasy, sweaty controllers, even if all of that comes from myself over time. When I buy second hand stuff, I clean it thoroughly, controllers in particular.

I usually take them apart and clean all the bits separately in soapy water. If it's small cleaning, some wipes are enough I guess. But yeah, wash your hands regularly kids, it's just common sense.

And I can't wait to see those hostesses cleaning the controller after each person has played at the TGS. Must be so weird in person.

I just wipe them clean usually. When they get bad I'll take them apart and that's when I bust out the qtips and rubbing alcohol.

I usually at least rinse my hands before playing. For cleaning, I use an electronics wipe, followed up by a wipe down from a really soft microfiber cloth. This works out especially well for the Wii U GamePad and its big-assed touchscreen (as well as handhelds). Seems to work, as my stuff still looks brand-new.

I have a problem with my Wii U tablet after the first use of it the right bumper or ZR I think sticks so it makes an annoying click noise when pressing it. I have tried a toothbrush and toothpicks but its still sticks. I normally take really good care of my controllers though my older controllers I will completely take them apart and clean each individual part.

Thanks for sharing everyone, Clorox wipes and rubbing alcohol clearing are the leading answers, always wondered this. Dat Cheetos controller, sweet baby Jesus.

i only clean the home console (wiping the surface and opening it up to clear dust). My controller is lying around the house.

I'll let you in on a little secret, GAF.

Eucalyptus oil.

cleans everything. Great on wounds and good for colds. + its smells fucking fantastic!

You're welcome.

Either a makeup remover wipe or acetone (nail polish remover) and cotton swabs depending on the severity.

Don't your controllers have lots of oil and grime buildup by now? Not talking about sedentary dust.

No need really.

I learned my lesson as a kid - eating chips and shit - getting a build-up of gunk and goop stuck in between the seams and buttons - gross!

Now, before each gaming session all hands have to hit up the sanitizer - and afterwards the controllers get wiped down - works like a charm.

Gets me everytime.

The texture on the outside of a cheeto is designed to be abrasive and basically scrub your teeth clean while you eat. Works wonders on a controller too

Oh, I thought this was a bump of that thread where the guy said he licked his controller sometimes to clean it. Good times.

I'm hygienic as hell but I can't stop my Wii U Pro Controller and Nunchuk sticks from turning yellow.

What do you guys use to turn them back nice and white?

Man that dirt pattern on the 360 controller drives me nuts! I wash my hands multiple times a day and I still get it.

Like the OP I use wet wipes on any controller I bought new but I don't go for the Clorox wipes. I just try to buy ones that are less harsh.

As far as cleaning used controllers go, I bust out the q-tips, rubbing alcohol and even toothpicks if they're super grungy. I also try not to buy used controllers as a rule mostly for sanitary reasons but things like controllers for older systems or fight pads I do make the exception.

I think the main reason I get so grossed out by dirty controllers is because I used to have a roommate who was the greasiest human being on the planet. Like, he showered regularly and wasn't super gross but his skin would exude more grease than anyone on the planet. Dude ruined several of my chairs just by sitting in them without a shirt on, and would leave my controllers looking like they were dipped in canola oil. It was horrendous.

I first use compressed air to get all the dust out. Then I take a small brush and brush the sides so I can get all the dirt that is stuck in the grooves. Finally I use a Clorox wipe to completely wipe the controller down.

Tie it to the cat with a length of finest gossamer, then start chasing it around the room banging a brass tea kettle with the underside of a hoover attachment.

I just wipe them off with a paper towel if needed. Mine don't usually have a lot of build up. If I buy a used controller that's really dirty I'll use alcohol or general purpose cleaner.
