I think he's a good writer and better director. He approaches television and film in a clever way, using conventions and tropes in tongue-in-cheek ways that I find amusing. His style can sometimes lead to too much playfulness in dialog and narration leading to tonal issues (such as the sequence he blatantly helped with in Thor 2), and he reuses some themes too often.

Dollhouse was, in my opinion, his worst bit of work. I think Serenity was his best.

Firefly bored me. I love Avengers.

I loved Buffy and Angel, but everything else he's done is either just OK or overrated. His Avengers movie was better than decent. Firefly is ass and I don't see why people are so freaky about it.
