I think he's a good writer and better director. He approaches television and film in a clever way, using conventions and tropes in tongue-in-cheek ways that I find amusing. His style can sometimes lead to too much playfulness in dialog and narration leading to tonal issues (such as the sequence he blatantly helped with in Thor 2), and he reuses some themes too often.
