You're blaming its being "overhyped" for at least some of your disappointment. It follows that the "overhype" comes from the people somewhere over there who really, really liked it and kept talking about it.

So yes, you're blaming someone else for the level of hype that you chose to set your measuring stick at.
So its ok when I say overrated?

GAF I watched the beginning of Wizard of Oz 7 times and gave up because black and white movies are stupid and I didn't even see a wizard.

Serious answer, it could be that you are identifying with Max, and you found the beginning annoying because he was captured. Later on in the movie he gets free so you might like it more.

I have attempted to watch it 3 times and I always stop after furiosa scapes with immortal joes wives. I just can't get into the movie. I have been hearing how amazing the movie is but I have to disagree. What am I doing wrong?

Don't worry about it, man.

It's like a made for tv movie that includes the Mad Max character for name alone. There's like no classic Mad Max in the movie so if those movies are what you like then this may not tickle your fancy.

I certainly didn't think it deserved all the praise. The stunts were great and the guitar guy funny. The story.. meh.

To shut up everyone mocking me for not finishing the movie I will attempt to watch it from where I left of. Well maybe from where the rockband is playing. Then I'll come back and post the impressions of it. But so far the movie is boring, characters are bland and plot is stupid. Is this movie even about max? Or furiosa or war boy?

The suspense is killing me.

It's about Max and Furiosa.

Are any of them?
The first one is, but the first one is pretty weird.

Well good on you for returning to the film so your can talk more about it.

Have you watched any of the films from the franchise?

What set your expectations of the film's story and execution?

It's the same thing, basically.
Whatever. Its a great action flick, I think it doesnt exactly deserve all that insane praise that it gets here and that not meant in any way to disregard the fans and I dont want to attack or blame anyone with this. And I think its a ok opinion to think that its a little bit overhyped (again, not meant in any way to attack or blame someone) and I think a discussion about semantics like this is not necessary.

Next time I will just write that I dont like it that much like other people.

I love you. Wanted to say this but too many lovers of the film here won't have my blasphemy. Sorry fellas you hyped it too much, it was solid it's not fucking awesome though its not raid 2 or T2 for that matter. Be happy I will say it's the best mad max movie ever and I love the first two.

It's like a made for tv movie

I dare you to actually defend this statement.

I don't know if I have ever seen such incomprehensible gibberish from people who didn't like a great movie as I have from the people who didn't like Fury Road. It's okay to just, you know, not like a movie. You don't have to come up with some objectively incorrect justification for your bad taste in action cinema.

I thought it was pretty boring and had no plot or character development. Just one big loud action scene after another. It felt like "what if Speed and Burning Man had a really stupid baby?"

You need to apply some cream to that butthurt, breh

It was a compliment. He was comparing it to Spielberg's Duel.

Objectively wrong. There's an extremely clear and obvious plot, and there is character development for Max, Furiosa, and Nux.

I'm with you OP. Some neat scenes but overall I found it pretty boring. Not much of an action movie guy, though, so it was to be expected.

It's totally fair to call it overhyped if you believe it is.

But if the hype is what lessens your enjoyment of a film, that's mostly your fault. In such a scenario, you were the one who jumped headfirst into the hype instead of managing your own expectations.

Even with all the praise, I kept my expectations low, and had a fantastic experience when I saw it. The art style and cinematography blew me away, more than just about anything else I can remember.

Oddly reassuring when first post is a good one.

Move on OP or just watch while damn movie but you can't judge the whole from a part so either decide you're not investing in the film or move on.

Course if you wanted to watch it properly you'd have gone to the cinema to watch it without a remote in your hand.

Hey GAF I watched the end credits of Memento and I was like WTF mate? It's just a bunch of words crawling across the screen. Worst movie ever.

i loved the film. but you can't stand your ground without stating what the development was or they won;'t understand.

The hype didnt lessen my enjoyment. I heard here on neogaf that the movie is supposed to be very good and thats it, I activly try to avoid discussions about movies here on gaf before I have time to see them.
It was more afterwards that I learned, that people really really really love this movie.

But its ok, I am similar when its about the newest Marvel flick. But I can accept when people say these are overhyped, because I am aware that these movies wont have a deeper impact on society and culture beside that they are liked for a couple of years and everyone wants to have a piece of the cake.

Having *a* plot and *some* character development doesn't make my observation that the movie was lacking in these areas "objectively wrong."

Oh yes, I'm sure there are many layers to the stupid movie with fucking exploding cars in the desert. I get it. The bad guy joined the good side and sacrificed himself. I'm sure the lack of "best screenplay" Oscars was a grave oversight. Or, maybe that was just a shallow, disposable plot that kept a 2 hour long car chase going. You know, whatever.

Will you no longer think Mad Max is overhyped when it's remembered as a classic years down the line? Because I guarantee you it will.

It was okay, but I think people were so starved for a straight ahead 80's style action film that doesn't slather itself in self-aware irony, that it ended up getting a bit overrated.

I'm just surprised nobody posted the overused "That's bait" gif yet.

Gotchu fam.

I didn't hate MM:FR, but I didn't really like it either.

Visually, the movie is awesome.

But all the insane action can't make up for the lack of substance. There is simply very little story to make me care about the characters, so the only thing to keep me in suspense is the action itself for the entire running length of the film.

Now, I'm not saying the story is bad, I'm just saying the story to action ratio is too small.

Compare this to another action movie franchise—say, the Fast and the Furious films. These films have fairly cliche, ridiculous stories, but you can't deny that they make you care more about the characters, because you've seen them as humans, outside of the action. This makes the action scenes much more impactful.

I'm just saying the story to action ratio is too small.

The story is happening during the action, though.

Action doesn't have to stop for story to start. A lot of the best action movies manage to tell their story during their action sequences just as much as they do during the slower, exposition-filled moments.

Because like others have stated, this film is regarded as the second coming of Jesus in movies. I tried to rewatch to see what am I missing that makes this movie so amazing.
For a lot of people it is a resurrection of what is beginning to feel like a lost art of filming action scenes mainly comprised of real objects and real people.
