GAF: I need some motorcycle games.

Motorstorm is great, and cycle-only online is like the ultimate off-road Road-Rash experience.

What are the guys from Rainbow Studios doing these days?

Scattered to a bunch of different places. THQ shut the studio down before they did what they did.

I know that nordic picked up the franchise and some of the guys are trying to help them do something. Haven't heard anything for awhile so I'm not sure.

It has bikes too. The game's more about hills and crazy jumps instead of flat racing, but I had a lot of fun with the series.

Motocross Madness (XBLA)
Pure (XB360/PS3) - i know it's a 4-wheeler game, but SO GOOD!
Trials HD (XBLA)
Trials Evo (XBLA)
The Lost And The Damned (GTA4 stand alone DLC)
Burnout Paradise bikes are fun too. Not sure if they come free with main game though.

For offroad: MX Reflex is really the best you'll get I think.

Now for onroad sims, I don't think you really want those. Motorcycles are so hard to translate onto a controller and it's very complicated controlling them on heavier sim settings without tons of practice. But, if you really want a sim, then the SBK series and GP Bikes are what you want.

Well, he did say he enjoyed Tourist Trophy, so anything along the lines of that or MotoGP 13 should be fine.

I just hope we get some good stuff next gen. With the increased CPU power we should see much more accurate and dynamic dirt modeling?

I want to see this:

Not just brown smoke coming off my back tire. Motorstorm was pretty great in that the tracks actually deformed somewhat, but not as much as I would like.

Looks like MX vs ATV REFLEX does some track deformation too, great! Ordered.

Reflex sure does do track deformation to a certain degree. I hope you ordered it for Xbox 360 because that version is slightly better. I've only played the PS3 version but it has a few framedrops in multi ( I like to race against friends ).

The game is pretty damn hard, but really satisfying if you win a race.

We fixed the deformation in MX vs. ATV Alive.. its much better.. only thing with that game was THQ wouldn't let us keep SX in the full game so that part never made it. It's all nationals and Freeride. The controls are a lot tighter too.

Road Rash. Sadly there hasnt been a new one in eons so good luck with dealing with the graphics of the old ones

There's a Road Rash type game on the way, I remember its Kickstarter thingy a while back. Think it's due for release next Summer and powered by the Unity engine if my memory serves me correctly.

From what I remember it looks like it's going to take a bit of skill to play so it'll probably get mixed reviews.

Sorry bro but Reflex is still much better. You don't need to unlock anything to play on all tracks or with all classes, there are more modes ( freestyle for one ) and more tracks.

Also you can just hold the gas and steer without ever falling off your bike unless you hit something. All the difficulty was taken out.

Sorry but Alive is a worse game, although it looks and feels better.

Sadly, this is a genre which is woefully underserved.

Maybe it's just me, but I found this to be the most uncontrollable game I've bought since the 8-bit days. I could barely stay on the track.

You gotta powerslide like mad which seems really twitchy at first, but once you get it it's so amazing.

Are you one of the old Rainbow Studios developers? I gotta say I did not enjoy Alive very much compaired to Reflex. Something about it just wasn't right... Maybe the physics although they are more realistic they just don't feel right.. i can't quite put my finger on it. also prefered the deformation in Reflex. Seems like it was tamed down for alive. Great bike sounds in Alive though.

EDIT: Went back and read your posts and I know who you are. Since you work for Turn10 and Microsoft owns Motocross Madness, why no Motocross Madness 3?

I could agree with that.

Would love another Motocross Madness title. With the launch of a new platform, etc. it would be hard to push something as niche as that. Hopefully this little MX drought will give someone the chance to break out with something good. I like MXSim as well but its a little too focused. Hes done a great job by himself though.

Hey never hurts to pitch the idea!
