GAF, is the Red Steel series dead?

I put together some videos before RS2 came out, about what I liked from the original and hoped RS2 would keep:

I do wish they would have given Red Steel 2 a different name, so they could revisit the original Red Steel's setting/storyline again, without it being weird for new comers to the series.

Did you get both endings to the game? As for my favorite levels though, it would probably be the "fun park". Dinosaur eggs. Crazy announcer. Just crazy/hilarious level design.

I enjoyed all 3 parts, good job. it was a nice blast from the past. I only vaguely recall the fun park because my memory sucks.

did any of you guys play multiplayer? I played it for a few days with my friend at launch...we enjoyed it even though it wasn't very good.

Yeah, I played multiplayer briefly with a friend that visited one weekend. We had fun running around for a few matches, but he wasn't the greatest with the controls. In the few matches we played, I thought the multiplayer levels were pretty well designed.

I actually think the story concept of Red Steel 1 would probably do alright today, coupled with a much tighter controls and better designed gameplay. Release on Wii U/PS3/4 with Motion+ and Move support.

I passed on RS2 because it apparantly does away with everything good about RS1. the art, the effects, the more even blend of shooting/swordplay, etc. I'll give it a whirl someday, but it's a shame they went in such a different direction rather than building on what they had.

My roommate really enjoyed Red Steel 1 and was irritated when they changed the game completely to Red Steel 2. I kind of agree with him. I put more hours into Red Steel 1 than 2 and I wonder if changing the series like they did hurt the game. The Wii could still sell core games as Goldeneye and Black Ops did pretty well on the system, but I felt like Red Steel 2 should have been a totally different game. The gunplay in Red Steel 1 was WAY better and I wanted more of that with some sword duels when possible.

I really hope the original team picks it up again and fleshes it out on the Wii U, but with the system not coming packed with a remote and nunchuck, I doubt it'll ever happen.

Best part of Red Steel was that Ghost in the Shell soundtrack kickin in the first full CG (yet claim real time gameplay by Ubi) FPS trailer when the sword battle begins on the roof

2:00 min mark. So glorious. Too bad the game never delivered.

Looking back at this (like KZ) we were so crazy to believe this could be done. Reaction and animation were way to good from enemies AI.

Man, that trailer was pure cheese, but I loved the concept of it.

This is the one I thought was the coolest for some reason.

I watched this trailer more times than I can count.

Here's my thoughts on Red Steel 1:

+ Entertaining, diverse soundtrack
+ Decent aiming with Wii remote's IR pointer
+ Variety of environments
+ Grenade throwing via motion control
+ Environmental destruction
+ Good-sized campaign

- Visually unimpressive (both graphically and artistically in my opinion)
- Forgettable story and characters
- Poor production values
- Bad Japanese voice acting (Gaijin!)
- Slow turning speed (made it easy for enemies to take cheap shots)
- Accuracy issues with motion control-based swordplay and combo system
- Tedious, and awkward sword fights
- Inability to switch between sword and gun
- Lack of overall polish
