So I came from Prince of Persia (which was an okay movie, but that's not the subject here). Entering the theater at the front they had a demo of this D Box seating. First time I've ever seen this and watching people go through the demo looked...dizzy. Here's the site for reference.

http://www.d-box.com/

Now, I didn't get a chance to watch the movie in these fancy red space chairs but I sat behind the last row of them. First off, no, I am not going to pay $14 for a movie ticket. Second, if theaters or whoever it is that's in charge of all this 3D/D Box nonsense, figure to put both 3D and D Box in a theater and charge $30, entertainment can go straight to hell.

So first impressions was the announcer saying that each seat can set their own sensitivity to their liking. My guess is everyone was set to ludicrous setting cause whenever a bass chord happened between the action or what not, that shit would vibrate like no other. I really thought my feet would of turned numb.

During the movie we had camera pans showing off the scene, etc. All the while I'm seeing four rows of heads in front of me swaying to and from along with the camera. Draw me some paper and strike some acid down for that kind of trip. People would fall from a building, and the seat would move forward, making the viewer feel as if they were perhaps falling as well.

As an observer, this shit looks way to distracting. Plus there are those who sit behind them a row or three who have to watch two things going on. The movie and heads flying all over the place. If there are those who've had the experience of trying a D Box, share your stories. Love and peace.

I think it's interesting, and something I'd at least try once. But it really needs to be like a "D-box only theater" and regular ones too. That way the regulars aren't distracted and annoyed.

not for me, I doubt Dbox will ever catch on. Its pretty much a subwoofer under your seat that shakes. No thanks

I am in for smell o vision if that ever catches on though

Yes to smell-o-vision.
No to D-Box. If the movie doesn't draw me in enough already, a moving chair won't help.

I suppose it could be interesting for comes where you're in a vehicle the entire time, but I don't really see the point with movies.

the best shitty low budget amusement ride? sure, why not
Low budget? It was groundbreaking when it first came out. The update's that's currently in progress and due out in a year or two isn't exactly cheap either.

I haven't heard any news on this update in like a year, and completely forgot about it. :lol I will now go look up any news I have missed in the last year.

Shit yes, heard about this awhile back and found out thanks to Ryan Davis that it's in the town next to me. Gonna go and try it out tomorrow, although I might wait till July to try it with inception instead of PoP. I'm a sucker for shit like this, so I'll probably enjoy it a bunch.

This is going to be the most honest review of D-Box.

Pros:
- Seats are reserved and numbered. No need to hurry up to the theater for it and show up last minute for awesome seats.
- Feel badass by telling people that you reserved the seat and they need to get the fuck up.

Cons:
- More expensive than IMAX.
- Only handful of movies feature D-BOX and in theater, only one movie will have D-Box support for more than 3 month or so.
- Motion sickness
- Backaches

Seriously. D-Box is not worth it. It's like riding a mechanical bull. If anyone else says otherwise then goddamnit they are wrong. Instead of focusing on the movie, you are focusing on not falling off the damn chair.

But... but... but... the website has a car in a head-on collision with a jet airliner! IT MUST BE AWESOME!

Thought the title said d bags :(

I confess I was idly hoping for a DocPan-esque:

They guy behind me kept looking at my head. I turned round and asked him what the fuck his problem was, and he acted like I was the one in the wrong. GAF, what the fuck ?

I found out my local theater has this and it was the first time hearing about it. The Youtube vids I saw said 99% of people who tested it in focus groups or whatever recommend and loved it, but of course the videos were uploaded from D-box. I'd probably be pissed if I went to a theater with these seats without knowing before hand, sounds like a big distraction. Already have enough distractions in the theaters.

Plus 2 hours sitting in these things? Do they only move during action scenes? Tickets here are $18 for these seats...thanks but no thanks

Also one of the engineers of this probably has nothing better to do cause I mentioned this on Twitter and got a reply about it instantly

New update that's coming out is themed around the prequels, therefore it fails :(

The theater I work in just got D-Box seats. They seem pretty neat, though I don't know if they're worth the extra money added to the ticket. Our first movie with the seats is Battle: LA. The problem with the seats is that they don't move around for the entire movie, only during action bits. But during the action set pieces, the rumblings were pretty awesome. I didn't feel any motion sickness or discomfort.
