I want to join a pool, but only if a legally valid contract is drawn up.

And by contract, I dont mean a 1,000 page thing, just something that will hold up in court, which doesnt have to be much.

Well I was reading this (CNN's legal analyst & Paula Zahn talking about some lottery story) and apparently, what we are doing right here would hold up in court.

TOOBIN: You can -- the judge has to decide whether he believes one person or the other. But what lottery officials always say, and they have certainly said it a lot in light of this controversy, is you should do a simple contract. You know, that's even too formal a name.

What you should do is write everyone's name on a piece of paper who has kicked in, and then photocopy the tickets that are the group tickets. That way, you eliminate any controversy in advance. You don't have to have a lawyer involved. You don't have to do anything formal. But just do it in a slightly organized way. Put it on a piece of paper, so there is no controversy down the road.

That's exactly what we're doing right here. I post the tickets and the names of the people involved before each drawing (and the terms are already laid out in the OP) so that would definitely hold up in court. Of course I could put all of the finalized info in a Word document and upload it before the drawing (in case anyone would want their own copy). It really doesn't need to go any further than that.

Is there anything in the terms that you don't agree with? I could always make some changes.

p(x) = 1 / C(55, 6) = 1 / 28989675 = 0.0000034495%

to find your chances of winning multiply that value by the number of tickets purchased.

1. Yay! We won $2 :)
2. 06-17-19-20-21 + 20 The FUCK?

3. No one hit (because those were insane numbers

). Jackpot rolls to $356 million.
4. I hope we have a 96-year-old lady in our pool.

Holy fuck no one hit, this must be a new record jackpot?

I do think you should keep a document that we can all see (Google Docs maybe) that has all our real names on it. Also, like someone said, a photocopy of the tickets but I'm not as worried as all that.

I trust you so I'm not too worried.

Not sure what's more ridiculous, those winning numbers or how big the jackpot is now... in again!

MM 3/27/12 | Sax Russel | saxrussel | $1

thanks for setting this up. Won 2 bones on friday.

MM 3/27/12 | Poody | epididy | $1

sorry about the email bit, but it gives away my full name too easily; I'll easily verify it if we win ;)

never tried any lottery before, so hopefully we get some beginners luck

Is...your real name
Carlos
?

I can't participate since I'm Canadian. But if you win, I can give you my 2$ after, and just split some money for me.

Thanks

lol, yes indeed, but the email has too much of my pretty unique last name, so I would rather avoid having my full name and posts out there on the interwebs

I was going to put just my first name, but then I realized if you google my first name and username you'll find me anyway, so if someone's stalking me I just made their job slightly easier.

I'll have to change the OP. International members can participate. I was reading a FAQ for Mega Millions and it's open to ANYONE. I just assumed that only U.S. residents could play.

But anyone outside the U.S. will be responsible for any additional fees associated with sending money through PayPal.

Basically, just something that goes along the lines of:

"I Mimic, as the administrator of the pool, agree to purchase the tickets using the money forwarded to my paypal account. If a ticket has winning numbers, I will inform all the players in the pool within 24 hours and will properly and evenly distribute the winnings among the players. Further, I will follow all the steps and procedures outlines in the original thread post".

Basically, if we win $350 million, thats a whole lot of incentive to post "no winner guys, sorry" then take the money and run. And if someone says "but I see a photocopy of the winning ticket" its suddenly impossible to get a hold of you.

OK, I posted the clause (with a few tweaks) acknowledging my responsibility as administrator.

It's official now :)

Also, when I went to get some of the tickets yesterday, there were so many old ladies buying tickets. Maybe I should trade with them =p

EDIT: Also, does anyone have any specific numbers that they want played? I think I mentioned in the past that I just let the machine pick the numbers. If no one objects, I wouldn't mind if the pool chose some of the numbers.

You should use the coordinates of that town in Wyoming gaf wants to buy. If we were to win that'd be where a bunch is goin anyway.

Can you imagine the epic "Pick Up Posts" thread that will ensue after this victory? Then all the moaning and groaning from the ones that didn't join the pool, ha.
