So, what's going to happen since Blader is banned?

Also, I checked, but just to make sure, Taken counts as it was released in 2009 in NA, right?

1. Inglourious Basterds
2. An Education
3. Crazy Heart
4. Star Trek
5. The Princess and the Frog
6. Taken
7. The International
8. Black Dynamite
9. District 9
10. Up

Well, I'm not sure how long Blader is banned for and if this is still going or not, but I put together a top-10, also noting the 2009 movies I've yet to see that might make my list.

1. Moon
2. A Serious Man
3. Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire
4. Up in the Air
5. Inglourious Basterds
6. The Hurt Locker
7. In the Loop
8. District 9
9. State of Play
10. The House of the Devil

Have not yet seen and would like to:
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The White Ribbon
The Prophet
Mother
The Dark House
The Secret in their Eyes
Where the Wild Things Are
Star Trek
Antichrist
Zombieland
The Road
Bad Lieutenant New Orleans
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

...actually, there are a fuckton of 2009 movies I still want to see that would probably usurp the very uninspiring bottom half of my top-10. The top-5 are really good, though.

1. I Love You, Man
2. Avatar
3. Up
4. (500) Days of Summer
5. Star Trek
6. Watchmen
7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

He was banned for port begging in the Metal Gear Solid 5 thread, which usually means a lengthier hiatus, so I doubt he'll be back in time. Unless someone else is up for it, I wouldn't mind counting the votes and posting them.

I hereby declare you the new vote counter. Hey, if someone else wants to, we could have two for the sake of accuracy.

Alright, so I've counted all the votes on the first page. Now, some have put that they had yet to see some films and/or they might edit their posts. If possible, if anyone edits could they make sure to post what they changed? Otherwise, I unfortunately won't be able to count it.

Back two days before! :lol

1. District 9
2. Inglorious Bastards
...
3. Watchmen
4. Up

Like normal I'm completely deprived of any sort of non-major picture till they are released on DVD. Lose Exposure and Moon being the big two(Still waiting on the latter from Netflix). Best way to sum up this year, overall it was allot more solid than last year. But still an extremely weak year. I also probably preferred last year too since so much of this year is just one big haze. Few stood out on either end while most just felt okay. The only two worth any merit was D9 and IB, with Up and Watchmen being the only other two I can recall. I have the same feelings though I have on the game side. Too many movies, with too little time, and having to pick them out too soon. Always makes this a mess for me.

I hate top ten lists...

1. A Serious Man
2. Moon
3. In the Loop
4. Ajami
5. Sugar
6. Coraline
7. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
9. Anvil! The Story of Anvil
9. Up in The Air
10. The Girlfriend Experience

Also, I'm pleasantly surprised by the love A Serious Man is getting in this thread, I absolutely loved this movie, might just be my favorite Coen brothers movie, and it kinda came and went unnoticed.

Only doing the big Hollywood stuff for this list.

1. District 9
2. Star Trek
3. Watchmen
4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
5. Inglorious Basterds
6. Orphan
7. A Serious Man
8. Up in the Air
9. Avatar
10. The Hurt Locker

Alright, so all the posts up to this one have been counted, but I came across this thread. I was wondering, since some people voted in that thread and not that one, if I should count their votes in the overall list. Any ideas?

1. The Hurt Locker
2. Inglorious Basterds
3. Star Trek
4. Up
5. The Hangover
6. Moon
7. District 9
8. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
9. The Informant
10. Duplicity

It was a challenge put some of these in order.

District 9
Observe and Report
A Serious Man
The Hurt Locker
The Box (I was high when I watched this but I think I would have liked it sober anyway)
Ingorious Basterds
Orphan
Star Trek
I love you man
Antichrist

There were some movies I wanted to watch but didn't get a chance to, especially:
bad lieutenant
the informant
good hair

For some reason I thought 2009 was a surprisingly good year...but then I look at my list after #6 and think "meh". The first 6 are stellar, though (as hyped as I was about 2010, I don't think my top 6 from this year will match up). I might be missing some.

1 District 9
2 Watchmen
3 Avatar
4 Star Trek
5 Inglorious Basterds
6 The Hurt Locker
7 Underworld 3
8 Harry Potter 6
9 Zombieland
10 Ninja Assassin

Also, I never got to see The Road and Sherlock Holmes.

A weak year for comic book adaptations. Over recent years they've been among my favourites, but only Watchmen was good this year.

It's important to note that regardless of which film ends up on top when the votes are counted, it's clear that Avatar will be THE movie of 2009, historically.

The history books will respect GAF's choice.

But seriously, it was too good a year for Avatar to drown everything out. I think The Hurt Locker could have a more enduring importance. Avatar will be forgotten when the next megablockbuster rolls around.

I doubt it. Besides being the new highest grossing film of all time (an honor that it will probably hold for at least as long as Titanic held the crown), it will ultimately prove to be an important film in terms of the technological advances that it has brought to the table. I agree that there were much, much better films released this year, but in historical terms, Avatar is the film of the year.
