Your daughter is awesome if you ask me. In fact i'm going to start the same habit. Clapping before and after eating something delicious. #teamclapping.

pd: you know that AMERICA is a continent divided in 3. NORTH, CENTER AND SOUTH. I'm from Southamerica and we don't clap i'm my country. If you are referring to AMERICA to the USA, I didn't know that they do that or even seeing it when I traveled there.

Oh, there's a South America now? I might like that. It's probably pretty warm there.

Is she 2 years old? Don't worry, once they grow past 4 they'll get out of the American mentality as long as you don't live in America.

This may or may not be the original

Lmfao. Holy fuck I'm dead.

Good meal? Clap
Plane landed safely? Clap
Took a healthy dump? Clap
Just got laid? Clap
Credits are rolling at the movies? Clap

All that clapping is hard work. I'm surprised there is an obesity crisis in the US.

Clapping is the #1 form of exercise in the US.

If I had to legit give an explanation about the whole clapping thing, I think it originated in the southern states. It's the whole "oh man this is a damn good meal, whew!" I know I've done it before. It's not some standing ovation or something just an exclamation of some damn good meal you just bit into.

All ya'll too proper though.
Please don't make yourself look dumb by trying to really look into it and put a explanation behind it. The whole clap meme thing started because someone overseas made a thread asking if Americans clap after they eat at resturants. Its stupid and became a meme because of how dumb it sounds. No Americans as a whole clap after they eat, there is no cultural explanation behind someone doing so if anyone actually decides to do it.

This is not true.

We actually do clap in parts of the US.

Ummmmmm the Civil War ended a long time ago, p sure it's just America now

Never understood all this southern pride stuff tbh

You don't GAF enough.

It's not even a GAF thing, that meme is all over 4chan and tumblr too, prolly reddit too, i wouldn't know tho.

OP, if you don't like it just tell her to express her approval in some other way, but im not sure something so harmless like clapping should be stamped out.

I went to see When Marnie Was There at the Ann Arbor film festival some weeks back and honest to gawd there was so much clapping.. and this was before the movie started. Here's the short version.

Guy walks out on stage, thanks everyone for coming, introduces himself and the film festival. Applause.
Talks about the old theater we are in, how lucky we are to still have it and how it's been renovated. Applause.
Talks about Studio Ghibli and how proud they are to screen Ghibli movies. Applause.
Introduces the audience to girl who is head of Japanese Society of U of M. Applause.
Girl say thank you, please give a hand to guy who just introduced me. Applause.
Girl talks about Japanese club, start of Japan week and thanks the audience before leaving. Applause.
Guy comes back and says please give another hand to girl. Applause.
Guy talks a bit then introduces another dude. Applause.
...
Fuck me.
Movie starts. Applause.

I'm pretty sure I missed a few more applauses in the parts I talked about above.

I know, I was just fucking around haha.

We like to clap so much we designed on/off switches that can be triggered by clapping. It's awesome that the last thing I do before going to sleep is clap the lights off.

And guess what we call it? http://www.amazon.com/The-Clapper-Sound-Activated-Switch/dp/B0000CGKLR

We also clap at the beginning, middle, and end of all youth sporting events. If a food vendor at a sporting event tosses a bag of food that's successfully caught by the buyer we clap for both of them...and then pass tips down.

Ummm....What does clapping your hands, while eating, is related to being an American?

Nowadays it's a form of communal bonding that groups of Americans engage in to show happiness and comfort. But back in the day, at the start of recorded 'Murican history, it was a way to show support for the freedom fry party during the Tea and Burger War.

....

What?

I constantly clap. At least 30-40 times a day. For a few seconds at a time.
Found my pen I was looking for, sit down, take a break, and clap for a couple seconds.
Finished my water, clap.
Got through the Dunkin' Donuts drivethrough with a latte, park, clap for a few.
Don't lie you clapped while holding it and spilled it everywhere hahahhaa

The "Americans clap after everything" originated from Americans clapping in movie theaters. The meme spun out of control and that's how you get this thread today.
