Gaf Nintendo-Crew, would it be wise to buy a 3DS right now?

If you want Four Swords then you should; it seems it is only going to be available until February.

I was thinking about this earlier, and it occurs to me that the Wii U controller design provides a pretty solid solution to this issue:

Build something like that into the back of the 3DS. Easy way to include the extra buttons and a nice grip for your hands.
You think Nintendo would really want to give up the aesthetic design for something like this? Not to mention it takes some portability away

Keep in mind that more people like to hate than praise. Especially everything Nintendo. If you like what Nintendo has to offer now and up to the next year, then the choice is obvious, get a 3DS.

I'm buying one now. I've been playing it and I can't resist buying one on my own. As someone who thinks 3D is a stupid fad, I enjoy the glassesless 3D on the 3DS a lot.

Wait, this is the monster? Or does this guy have huge hands.
Nvm, it's fake i guess.
The 3DS + add-on isn't as big as the pictures make it seem. Once you see what it will look like in some hands, it's not as big as you thought. Remember, the 3DS is tiny.

Get it if there's software you want.

Speaking as someone who has owned just about every revision of every Nintendo handheld ever since the Gameboy, I can pretty honestly say the revisions haven't actually ever noticeably skewed my enjoyment the software.

I plan on having the wife get me one for Christmas, I'm fairly confident a future revision isn't going to affect my enjoyment of it.

Also I'm expecting Nintendo to be Nintendo and put out a 3DS revision... that still doesn't have the second stick. Haha. It wouldn't surprise me.

I bought one three days ago with Zelda, Mercs and Ghost Recon. I'm eagerly awaiting Bit Trip Complete, Mario 3D, Mario Kart 7.

I'm getting Star Fox next week and picking up Ridge Racer, SMT: DSO, Monkey Ball and Pilot Wings when they're sub-$20.

I'm very happy with my purchase and consider the 3DS' first year vastly superior to the OG DS'. I'd recommend.

With the library in it's infancy and a looming revision, I'm going to wait, I've got too much to do and play this year anyway.

The GBA to GBA: SP and the DS to DS Lite were really big deals, so I'm really curious to see what they'll do. A boost to battery life, viewing angle and a default second analog stick would be such a huge deal for me.

Unless you're a stupid collector like me that has to have 1 of each revision, I'd say no.

Though I must say in GBA and DS case each version has its own pros and cons.

Except the redesign may come March 2013, and by then people may actually have titles they want to play. Nintendo is likely to push for support of both single analog and dual analog control schemes, much like Wii games often offering numerous controls options.

Maybe single analogs are phased out at some point, and Nintendo risk the market split. It'd be a dangerous move, and I don't think they plan to do it in 2012 at least. Nintendo didn't even mention the add-on at the conference, and afterwards, they didn't mention it working with any first party games.
As the moment its all speculation, of course. I think we all have very different perceptions as to what we think Nintendo is most likely planning.

I think that the bulky add-on they've introduced is not practically marketable for the length of the generation, it screams "stop gap" and "temporary". I can't forsee any scenario in which the first revision of the 3DS is designed to be compatible with it, as this would restrict their redesign options.

I also cannot see Nintendo advertising such an ugly, unwieldy attachment and overtly nullifying any sleekness and aesthetic dignity the 3DS has. Therefore to me the most likely scenario is a 3DS XL with the second analogue built in. If I was a betting man I'd expect it to be announced at any point between the start of the 2012 business year and E3, but as always Nintendo are hard to predict.

I'm also taking into account that 01net were spot-on about the cradle, which was a development no one saw coming. Hell, they were crucified by the internet for even suggesting something so absurd. They clearly have inside information, and their assertion of a revised 3DS model should not be overlooked.

I'd absolutely recommend against buying right now, but then all I see in terms of software is a remake of a Zelda I've completed six times, and potentially good games on the horizon. All I'm seeing in terms of hardware is a model that's still not inexpensive and is likely to be significantly outdated next year. Regarding the games though, if the current library appeals to the OP more than it appeals to me, then my recommendation might not be appropriate.
