Anyway, mine is like over fifty years older than the bessa but I like it a lot. Focusing the double image is a bit more touchy but it only takes some getting used to. Should have some more soon since I have rolls that'll be ready on Friday with some better film, hopefully they don't turn out shitty.

These are great. Do you develop your own film? What type are you using? Do you scan the negatives and do post-production (or have the lab scan them)? How much does it cost?

I've been using an Olympus OM1 I got off of Ebay and I've been surprised at the cost of getting film developed, but I absolutely love the results.

That film was Kodak BW400CN, had it developed and printed at Walgreens, it's a c-41 b&w film. I actually scanned the prints this time and did a little PS adjusting because the scanner really washes out regular scans but not negative scans, so I tried to match the prints. Had them printed since I didn't want to scan a bunch of negatives only to find they turned out really bad because I wasn't operating the camera correctly or something. The majority of the time I only have them developed, using this lab now for my newer film but I'm not sure what the price is, will tomorrow. Everything else I've posted aside from those last ones aren't processed at all, just downscale them for the web.

Here's an unedited neg scan, you can tell by the dust I didn't clean too well. :lol

Film that will be ready tomorrow is Fuji Velvia 50 and Ilford Pan F Plus, hopefully they turn out nice. Getting it developed is pricey but I think it's worth it too, I don't take loads of pictures either so it's a bit easier to stomach. Sorta interested in developing B&W myself though just for all the tweaking that's possible with different chemicals and whatnot.

Question:

I wanted to learn how to take some more action oriented shots, so I had my dogs running around in the yard.

I opened my aperture up wide (Canon EF 100mm f/2.0 lens @ 2) so that I would have a fast shutter speed (1/800s in this photo).

I thought that with a fast shutter I'd be able to freeze action, but it didn't work out so well. My guess is that my depth of field was too narrow because of the aperture?

Looks like the focus was thrown just behind the head of the brown dog (look at the grass and its body). Could be that the lens or body had a hard time tracking. At such a large aperture and being close to the dogs, the Depth of Field could be fairy small.

you'd be exactly right. What was your ISO at? if you did aperture of f4 you'd have to bump your ISO by at least a stop to still freeze action.

ISO was 100, so I guess I should have upped it to 200 or 400. I probably could have even dropped the shutter speed a bit too, right? What should my slowest be to still freeze action?

oh dude go up to ISO 400 f4 or f5.6 and you should still have plenty of shutter speed to stop action.
I would say 200-250 would do a good job of stopping moderate action.

whenever im wildlife shooting or dog shooting my ISO outdoors is 400 even though im often shooting at f2 or f4 (yay 4/3rds more depth of field) so i get very high shutter speeds to stop action and to eliminate camera shake.

You did freeze the action, you just didn't have it in focus. 1/800 should more than enough to freeze this type of movement. Close down the aperture and up the ISO an equal amount to deepen your depth of focus.

Thanks guys! Makes sense, just have to keep this in mind next time.

Beautiful pics - congrats!

You're going to be taking a copious number of poop, yawning, smiling, feeding and tummy-time pics

Koam and Scientific Ninja, Thanks. Yeah, she will be the subject of a ridiculous quantity of photographs for the forseeable future. Need to purchase a new hard drive.

Congrats again! My daughter willl be here next month and I've already said the same thing. Nice pics too!

Little cliche sunset, but i like the silhouette. No post-production.
Definitely a nice picture, but why not try cropping some of the black parts? Either just crop out a good chunk of the lower black part, or if you don't like the proportions that way, you can crop some of the stuff to the left too? I tried it out and cropping lower + left part looks really great. Just putting some suggestion out there though! :)

Random shiznitz, getting down with the dirtier processing. I usually prefer very neat images but I've been appreciating the dirty look.

*Used a preset Film filter here. The simulation of Kodak Ultra Color 100UC really brought out the cats eyes. Raised the contrast and lowered the brightness. Grain came along with the Film Simulation.

*Surprise shot of the day. Was sitting in the back seat of a car, looked to my side and liked the large cloud formation. Snapped a shot and pulled along the foreground with it. I dig the motion blur.

RefigeKru: You really make me want to shoot film! Man, so much character and mood in each shot.

spotted this on the way home from a friend's apt. i wish it weren't so overcast out that day.

I like the cloud one Blue, what's in the blurred foreground?

Also Fuji Velvia 50 great, or greatest?

Just some ridge of trees along the highway. I got lucky with the open spot for the cloud.

And got to love the Dynamic Range of film. My lowly Rebel XT would have either overexposed the highlights or squashed the shadows. No compromise without making it look a little weird :lol

Beautiful, beautiful photograph. The composition is about as perfect as it'll get. Photographs like this make me appreciate that at our best we're capturing very poignant and fleeting moments in time.

BlueTsunami: Thanks man, that means alot. There is something very gratifying about being able to capture a moment and influence the memory of the subject with your own perspective. Also, love the cloud picture.

While I'm no great photographer, I figured when I saw this tread I could throw some pictures in.

Took these last year during a bad storm on my phone.

Hot Damn

Antimatter - I really want to shoot medium format. Those shots are gorgeous.

Thanks guys, I love film. Probably why I'm having such a hard time adjusting to digital, photoshopping photos doesn't give me the same sort of satisfaction as developing them. Gonna dump some more here in a bit when I'm done scanning them in, so you'll have to forgive me.

The quality degrades so much. ;/
Mate these are great. Dont try and touch these up in any way, Not every image has to be pristine and sharp. If you dont mind me asking, what camera and film did you use?

All of those were with Ilford Pan 400 and taken with my Pentax MZ-50 using an Aspherical 28-80 macro lens. Whatever that means :P More photos

So...I was riding motorcycle and I thought....WTF is so interesting. What is this about $50k in camera gear? (I would be shocked if one of the pics taken by these folks didn't end up in a calendar...)

Ahh there!!!

I was envious of their massive prime lenses...but about 20 seconds later it takes off and I got a shot they probably didn't...instead of being at max zoom I had to quickly pull back and pray to god I remembered to set my camera to servo AF. I did...and it turned out pretty good IMO. Still need to tweak some in LR, etc. This was a 1 minute crop and adjust. I was pretty psyched.

Thx. I love medium format, it pulls in so much detail... The Hasselblad I have was actually my first camera, my sister had an old Mamiya that I played around with so I decided to get something like it. :D

I did get a 35mm for when I don't feel like lugging it around though, it's pretty heavy and bulky. It'd be nice if I could stuff it in a small backpack pocket but if I go somewhere with it I have to keep it in my hands or bring a camera bag to carry it with, disassembled.

A couple of snaps of morning light from my way to work:

These are really great, especially the second. There's not a whole lot of nature-landscape photography that I like, because it seems like so much of it is wannabe Ansel Adams, in-your-face grandiose and majestic ALL THE TIME. Gets tiring. But these are subtle but still...dramatic? (as opposed to flat and boring like all my attempts at this sort of shot have turned out) Maybe not the best choice of words but anyway, I like them a lot.

Think I like the second one the most too, followed closely by the third. There's some shit going on with these lenses that tends to lend itself to that look I think. The somewhat underexposed film helps in the last one (I metered a few rolls wrongly at 100 instead of 50), and the Velvia seems very contrasty to begin with. Would have liked to get a little closer to the tree on the first to edge out some of the stuff on the bottom, it bugs me for some reason.

Not gonna bomb this thread with huge images again so soon but here's a few others from that little excursion.
