Theme: Temperature

was going to go with "cold", but i didn't want to leave out our southern hemisphere friends. this assignment can go either way!

Submissions are due by Sunday, January 9th at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Voting begins Monday, January 10th and ends on Tuesday, January 11th at 11:59 p.m. PST.

1) The theme can be interpreted as you see fit, but keep in mind others will be judging based on whatever criteria they see fit.

2) Only one photo per person, per assignment.
-- Photos must be taken during the assignment period.
-- Only photos to be posted in this thread are to be submissions.
-- You can change your submission by editing your post.
-- To avoid cluttering up the thread, please avoid quoting images.
-- Photos should be no larger than 800 pixels on the long edge.

3) One vote for your first choice (3 points) and one vote for your runner-up (1 point), which can be based on any criteria you see fit. You cannot vote for your own submission. Non-participants are also welcome to vote. Criticism/comments encouraged.

4) The "winner" should come up with a new theme/time period. Ties are broken first by the number of first choice votes, then by longest time since last win/thread start, then by longest amount of time participating in assignment threads, then by IQ.

5) wrap up warmly!

Now this is an interesting theme. Totally missed this thread because you posted it on Christmas day so thanks for the bump. I promised to contribute to the previous assignment as well and didn't deliver on my promise so I won't do it again, but I'll try to cook something up for this one. The holidays are almost over with so there is more time available.

e: Log had a rotten spot in the middle that burned out before the rest of the log and had the fire shooting through it like a jet stream. It died down before I can get my tripod but I love the continuous swirl it created at the end.

Thanks! I think both the resizing and uploading to photobucket caused the artifacts, but...what can you do?

1st- MrBig, the swirling on the flames is excellent. Love the colours too.

Hope you don't mind my joining in folks. My last bit of DSLR kit got delivered today so I'm kind of a minus-novice. Hoping to get into the challenges.

1st - Risible - very Jackson Pollock. I like Jackson Pollock
runner up - LuckyForward - I am very uncomfortable with this pic. It scares me, I don't like it at all, the kiddy-book style reminds me of the worst aspects of My Little Pony. And yet I keep getting drawn back to it.

Brief gratuitous notes on others (feel free to be gratuitously insulting to me next time round)

Mr Big - yeah its hot, but I need more crackle to it. Can't FEEL it.
chaostrophy - nice, but it says to me solitude rather than temperature
345triangle - too odd, don't understand
Danielsen - interesting. Warm lighting but cold atmosphere. Stick a chair in a corner and I'd buy it
Captive - does nothing for me, sorry
Minosha - sweet
vitaminwateryum - now if I could tell what it was it might help. Actually I have a feeling that would be spectacularly good if you turned the pic upside-down!
Human_Shield - I get the feeling from this that the background is more interesting

First - Human_Shield - Beautiful, subtle color, I like the streaky bokeh, almost makes it feel the plant is leaning into a cold wind.

Runner-Up - vitaminwateryum - I like it almost as much as Human_Shield's photo, for many of the same reasons. I guess I went with H_S because his has a sense of energy for me.

As you wish, lol - your right except vitaminwateryum has 2, not 1. I just recount as my initial count didn't match yours, but you were a lot closer to exact than my first pass!!

Also, if I could make a request - whoever creates the next assignment (this time MrBig) could they please post a link at the end of the the won... I never know when the next one goes up and it takes me forever to find, but I'm always subscribed to/bookmarked the just ended assignment. I'm sure this is the case with others too.

I'm going to make an effort to do as many of these as possible this year. I'm not much of a photographer and my camera isn't great but it'll get me taking some pictures and that's all that matters!

I didn't have a DSLR until a couple years ago, and I was still taking good shots and really got me into photography. I'll be sure to continue participating in these now too
