Theme: Technology
And remember that technology is not only defined as computers and the like but something that would make a practice/life easier, e.g. a well or a dock

Submissions are due by Sunday, January 30th at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Voting begins Monday, January 31th and ends on Tuesday, February 1st at 11:59 p.m. PST.

1) The theme can be interpreted as you see fit, but keep in mind others will be judging based on whatever criteria they see fit.

2) Only one photo per person, per assignment.
-- Photos must be taken during the assignment period.
-- Only photos to be posted in this thread are to be submissions.
-- You can change your submission by editing your post.
-- To avoid cluttering up the thread, please avoid quoting images.
-- Photos should be no larger than 800 pixels on the long edge.

3) One vote for your first choice (3 points) and one vote for your runner-up (1 point), which can be based on any criteria you see fit. You cannot vote for your own submission. Non-participants are also welcome to vote. Criticism/comments encouraged.

4) The "winner" should come up with a new theme/time period. Ties are broken first by the number of first choice votes, then by longest time since last win/thread start, then by longest amount of time participating in assignment threads.

5) Have fun!

GAF Photography Assignment Threads FAQ

Congrats on the win MrBig and great choice on the theme. Subscribed to this thread and hopefully I'll get to contribute.

My favourite piece of technology. What would i do without it???
So simple and so effective that they didn't see a way to improve since the 17th century (okay.. tiny improvements were made).

I love how the DoF works on that, amazing!

So great to see such awesome entries already! Love every single one so far.

Here's mine for this assignment. Well before the deadline for once.

Nikon D3100 + 18-55mm kitlens
ISO 100
26mm
f/4.2

*bump* Finally decided on a scenario for this assignment. Will be pretty keen, if I can pull it off.

Exposure: 1/5s
Aperture: f/11
Focal Length: 28mm *Reversed*
ISO Speed: 100
Setup: Tripod, Mechanics Lamp, Canon Rebel XT set to Mirror Lockup and Timed Exposure with a Nikkor 28mm f/2 AI lens mounted to the body reversed for higher magnification. Processed in Canon DPP and transfered to Photoshop CS5 for Black and White Conversion and resizing/sharpening for web.

Awesome pictures so far. Makes me really want to just go get a DSLR but I'm going to make myself use what I have at my disposal before I think too much about buying anything.

I've completely decided on what I want to try to photograph so tomorrow or Sunday I'll have something regardless of how shitty it may turn out to be.

Canon 20D, MP-E 65mm macro, ISO 100, 0.8 sec, f/5.6

The inner rim of a DVD...I wanted to capture the rainbow effect of a shiny DVD, so using a little LED flashlight as a light source I lit this disk from a variety of angles and took lots of exposures to get one that looked just right.

sliced bread

Canon 450D
Sigma 30mm f/1.4
ISO400
1/40

Setup: prop up bread against mouse recharger. The table i shot it on was small and under pretty bad artificial light (60W energy saving lightbulbs FTL) so there was a fair bit of retouching to extend the background - you can still tell its a bit of a mess around the corners.

Changed my assignment photo. This one is of a processor that was shot with an AK-47.

As the saying goes, great minds think alike hah.

Hey guys. Sorry for my long absence from the photography threads. School has been busyh as hell senior year. I graduate this may.

Anyways I am going to go ahead and make a contribution. Been experimenting with some post-processing in lightroom. It probably will come off a bit amateurish, but I think it works here. This was taken inside the machine shop at my school.

For reference I am a EE/Math dual major. I had a lot of fun nodding my head while my group's ME's did the talking.

My cam taking pics of itself to send to hot girls on the internet. If I had two DSLRs this would turned out a whole lot sharper!

Hey how sturdy is that gorilla pod? I own a lightweight tripod and targus monopod, and am trying to figure if I should add it to my equipment collection.

I personally also own the DSLR version of the Gorilla pod and I vouch for its sturdiness. Great little piece of kit.

Q. How do I vote?

Just post a reply noting your "First choice" and "Runner up","1" and "2", "First" and "Second", "3 points" and "1 point", or anything else that clearly lets whoever tallies the vote know how you want your points distributed. People in the past have voted for only for one entry, leaving the runner up spot blank. Feel free to give honorable mentions or comment on all the entries although neither will effect the vote tally.

:)

First: 345triangle. Love the clutter of technology. I works well in black and white, and the lines form an interesting abstract image.
Second: vitaminwateryum: love the idea. Not sure i like te composotion tough. But i love how it's unclear what it is and invisible to the naked eye.

HM: Human_Shield: I really like the idea of a technology that makes another technology even easier to use.

Well done to al the others!

First: _dementia - I love the rainbow effect on the LP grooves, how did you get this?
Second: vitaminwateryum - I'm a sucker for particle effects ;)

HM: chaostrophy

1. guise - Nice and clean, an interesting choice that is overlooked every day
2. vitaminwateryum - It looked like fireworks out a screened window. I liked how it looked like something else though, just thought it was interesting.
