1. guise - If I had made a shot, I would have also done a less conventional take on the word like this.
2. 345triangle

1) vitaminwateryum - beautiful. I like the depth and clarity despite being abstract. It gives me vibes of 3D holographic displays in movies. no idea how you achieve this kind of shot (i'd love to know)

2) Danielsan - like the warm tones, very apt for the subject

HM: Jill Sandwich. it's like the inception of voyeurism through technology. a shot of a shot of a shot being looked over over someone who's already been shot.

Comments for all, mercy for none!

First - Danielsan - Beautifully done, the lighting, the backdrop...looks very professional and I could easily see this as an ad in a stereo magazine.

Runner Up - 345triangle - This works very well as a B&W, I love the jumble of detail and the way the in-focus and soft-focus elements play against each other.

Honorable Mentions:

guise - Terrific idea, I think the plain, ordinary, generic look you captured works well here.

Jill Sandwich - Clever idea, and a careful, tight composition, but the image quality of your iPhone and its overall lack of sharpness pull it down a notch. Really inventive, though!

Human_Shield - I like the simple idea and careful composition (both apple buttons included), but I think that maybe a levels tweak in post could make the bright details 'pop' a little more.

Comments:

Always-honest - Neat idea, I like the look, but since you were going for a shallow, selective focus I'm surprised you didn't put the focus on the tip of the corkscrew.

vitaminwateryum - It's a nice abstract but it doesn't really 'pop' for me, and since I'm not familiar with Kinect I'm not sure what I'm looking at.

ConvenientBox - I like it, but there doesn't seem to be enough substance or detail there to keep me looking.

AnkitT - I think I'd like to see more of this object in focus, and the way you cut off the right edge makes the composition seem kind of random.

Maiar_m - I like your tight composition bu the lighting seems drab and the focus a little soft all around.

BlueTsunami - This one seems a bit unexciting to me, and the specks and hairs detract.

_dementia - Another one where the lighting seems drab to me, also I think more DOF would have worked better here...the red light seems to be you sharpest focus point, but it doesn't really work as a center of interest.

Borman - I like the warm lighting, but this is another one where the shallow DOF doesn't work for me and there's no real center of interest.

The_Inquisitor - I can appreciate the creative processing, but the compositon seems kind of random, and the tip of the box just bare jutting out of the top of the frame detracts for me.

chaostrophy - I think there was a picture to be had there (capturing the blandness of office tech) but that composition with its empty expanses above and below doesn't work for me.

MrBig - Kinda drab and I get the feeling you didn't try too hard.

Great theme, this is the best participation we've had in quite a while!

Your winners :)

Congrats guys

Really high calibre of submissions this time - hopefully participation stays as high next time

Congrats 345triangle.

Can I make a request ~ whenever you create next assignment (345triangle this time) could you please post a link to it in the assignment you won? It would make it a lot easier for me and I'm sure others to find, since I bookmark/subscribe to the current one and have trouble finding the new one... Thanks.

thanks for the votes, everyone! i was pretty pleased with my entry this time, though it didn't take a lot of effort - you can see a jumble of wires like that just by looking to the sky almost anywhere in osaka. it always reminds me that i'm sort of lucky to live in a high tech wonderland, even if they're just ugly phone wires.

new assignment: candid portraiture

Grats to the winners, definitely deserved. I'll post some slightly further away shots tomorrow for those wondering how I got that shot.
