GAF Plays: "Xenogears"...AGAIN! (kinda)

Replaying this made me see even more future references to be in Xenosaga. Weltall with mysterious blackboxes and all.

I'm where Sigmunt's ship sank and Fei is now in Sector D and reunited with Shitan. Man this part already sounds boring...escaping a prison camp place through another series of Gear fights. Ugh.

This must be your first time playing if you refer to him as "Shitan."

Blackmoon Forest. Now that my summer job is over I can start taking this seriously.

Yep, first time. I'm going by the Japanese names because that's the version I'm playing. He's also referred to as Hyuga, right?

I finished the sewers and the gear battle with Rico so that's that (it was boring indeed). Finally onto something more interesting hopefully...

Oh. I thought you were making a scat reference. It's a dreaded sewer level. I like what's coming up for you. Good scene.

I'm probably a lot further than most of you guys.
I just left Shevat, got the flying upgrade for the Yggdrasil, and I'm on my way back to Nisan. About to hit the boring-ass second disc, I'm afraid.

I must be one of the only guys who welcomed the second disc changes. By then, I was plenty ready to skip past the random-encounter-filled dungeons and cut to the boss battles and plot points, which is the approach they switched to.

People have it wrong. The great flaw of Xenogears is not that they ran out of budget and had to speed things up in the second half, it's that they didn't cut the game down to size. It's way too long winded in plot, cinematics, and extraneous scenarios.

I'm using save anywhere and speed up text with ePSXe all shaders, and enhancements on. Noticed some glitches but god, this looks as good as a mid-tier PSP game.

I don't know where I am, still on the first disc and I beat up that wannabe for like the second or third time.

I haven't started because I'm having issues getting it to work properly with epsxe. NOthing I can't fix now that the weekends here. That and I have the full version of Trackmania United, and you know, shit is addictive.

Well. It looks like this game cannot be fully played on the ePSXe. There is a room in the tower of babel that destroys the game. Poor coding on monolith's part. You can't escape from battles and the menu screen is not an option.

Damn, was Jinfash perma'd? :(

I kinda enjoy seeing people post their comments as they play through my #1 fav game, sucks that he can't partake now. :o

I just got Elly in my party going to Steal the Goliath, from the looks of things i am way behind you guys.

Oh snap. "Go-ri-a-te" (Japanese) is Goliath? LOL, man I hate Japanese pronounciations of Western mythology names.

Ah found the damn thread...search didnt find this one and I mistakenly posted on a very old thread :/

Man Tower of Babel was a bitch....i hope there arent any more dungeons as terrible as this.

Naw it wasn't so bad I think the Sewer was worse, or maybe you get to go in Tower of Babel a second time?

Nah...you see, I am playing this with a dungeon map FAQ and even with that, the Tower of Babel was horrible with the uber-platformer shit they had there. It's a fucking RPG, wtf is up with this Super Mario ripoff bullshit. And control isnt even tight enough and the camera angles are horrid.

Anyhow, hopefully no more of those. I am in Shevat and got the hidden treasures, mmm...delicious.

Disc 2....man what a piece of shit :-(

I thought I was prepared for it...boy it's worse than I imagined it to be. Not sure if I can even bother playing this anymore.

funny i was playing without any FAQs and i still didn't have much a problem with that area.

Woohoo, finished Xenogears!

It's a miracle this game managed to tell the story until its conclusion. Epic indeed.

My only real complain would have to be disc 2. It was almost unbearable to go through all the narratives and fighting bosses after bosses...but the last part allowing you to roam the field map again was perhaps the only redeeming factor.

Great story though but too many obvious philosophical, biblical, anime and film references...still managing to get away with it somehow. Oh and the music...wow, no wonder people love Mitsuda. I have to say though this is his best music, because other music I've heard from him weren't too memorable.

This is the first time I've completed it and I have to say that despite the unfortunate disc 2, after 10 years, this RPG has not aged at all.

Anyways, just wanted to chime in and tell everyone here I've enjoyed it :)

now you can jump on the remake bandwagon...pretty much the only game Ive ever wanted remade. The game was never properly completed!

Testament to why "SQUARESOFT" was such an amazing company in the 90's and early 00's. Xenogears was such a masterpiece, but was anybody else disappointed with the Xenosaga games?

Xenogears needs to hit the American PSN NOW.

Are there any crossovers you personally want to see with characters you created?

Transformers: War for Cybertron. Weltall-Id and KOS-MOS would make a good fight.
Oh man. Make it happen.
