Startup.com is kinda hard to find, but worth it. Really shows the internet boom of the millennium in a bubble, and it's crazy to see guys go from being the richest in the country to losing their companies within mere months.

So I found this journalist by the name of Shane Smith. He has a site called Vice and he does these documentary pieces on dangerous places in the world that most people don't know about. I watched one of his 60 minute documentaries on Liberia in which he goes into one of the most dangerous parts of Africa, he talks to some of the previous warlords and goes down into the slums at night as well to visit a brothel. The whole time watching you just feel for this guys life it's a pretty real and dangerous look at the area.

*NSFW* nothing incredibly graphic (there is some dead bodies but not really gore on the level of stuff you'd see in archival footage) and some mature stuff, still I will give heads up just in case it bothers some people.

Second although he has done a few his recent documentary is about North Korea and how they are exporting slaves to work in Russia. They send them to camps out in Siberia where these camps are made to look like North Korea. Basically people are working there to earn money that goes to the dear leader and if they try to run their families in NK are threatened. He is still editing this and each day is putting up a new part right now there is two parts up. Here is the first part you can find the second part there.

Lastly he was on the most recent Joe Rogan podcast where he goes into more depth regarding his documentaries and some of the stuff he talks about is incredibly fascinating.

Sorry for the long post but I found these documentaries and found them incredibly fascinating especially Liberia it's almost as if this is the lowest point of humanity where all the bad things you can think of happen there. It's like a shocking look at things we may hear but couldn't imagine.

Just watched this documentary the other day about and artist named Robert Crumb. It follows Crumb and documents his famous underground comics and artwork. The documentary also highlights his personal life and his family which is very interesting especially his brothers.Overall this was a great film and a very unique look at Crumb who is an incredibly odd man.

Dirt! The Movie is an excellent film. It talks about the complexity of dirt and what we can do to preserve healthy dirt.

Personally, I would find something with David Attenborough's voice and go from there, but I'm a sucker for nature documentaries. You'd probably enjoy the Vice Guide To Travel (North Korea, Liberia, etc).

I couldn't help but notice your list is all sensationalistic stuff, especially The Cove. Be careful about believing everything they say and show you - read about the documentaries and their criticisms after watching to get other perspectives.

I must say, thanks to everyone here. I've already watched a number of the recommended documentaries, and loved them.
I still have a lot to go through. But that doesn't mean I don't want more recommendations though

Really? They make pretty compelling and convincing arguments in their movies. I should read more about them, though.

Restrepo - Shows the war in Afghanistan in an amazing way

Infamy - It's about graffiti and taggers, but the people it profiles are such a strange and troubled group of people.

Tyson - Portrait of a man so misunderstood

I've been wanting to expand to watching documentary. I'm pretty happy this thread was made. I shall go out and expand my knowledge now. Thanks, Gaf!

Appreciation bump, I love the suggestions in here. More?

Dungeon Masters

The scene with the prospective author and the dice cracked me up. If a die was not giving him the results he wanted, he would dip it in water, put it in the freezer for an hour, take it out and align it with other dice on the floor and then smash it with a hammer so that the other dice would 'reaffirm' to him. Bonkers. :D
