Gaf, PSVita or 3DS XL?

I own both and prefer the Vita by a country mile. Better hardware, better OS, Better online infrastructure, and the games interest me more.

So, do I want to waste my time going through those pages that ultimately don't answer my question? Or do I simply ask the question here once it occurs to me and return to this thread once I know I've gotten a response? The latter simply makes much more sense to me.
Fair enough. I don't know how to quantify 'noteworthy', so I've listed the exclusives I enjoyed and added a couple that I think are probably worthy of note.

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation
Dynasty Warriors Next
Escape Plan
Gravity Rush
LittleBigPlanet PS Vita
Lumines Electronic Symphony
Soul Sacrifice
Super Stardust Delta
Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Unit 13
Wipeout 2048

If I did a list of Vita titles that I personally felt were noteworthy, it'd probably be four times larger than that.

Bought a 3dsXL this week with animal crossing new leaf. Can't say I'm totally digging it. My wife seems to tho.

I think I'll buy a Vita soon. The games appear (IMHO) to be more mature so right up my street.

In a thread asking which portable to get, why is a game that can only be played on one portable console not relevant?

Because to some people there is no difference between a game on handhelds, home consoles, ios devices, android stuff, PCs or laptops. Many don't even leave the house with their handhelds.

To me only exclusive games count in favor of a system, especially if a system has not the best version of the game to get.

Why is it not relevant? Can Hotline Miami be played on any other portable console? In a thread asking which portable to get, why is a game that can only be played on one portable console not relevant?

I have a PC that can play any multiplat game better than any console on sale but I still buy many multiplats on other systems.
Man...

First off, I said "seems a little irrelevant". Qualified. Of course it's relevant. It's still, as you said, the only portable Hotline Miami. Secondly, the post that started this conversation acted as if Hotline Miami should be a system seller; that it was the only title that mattered. "Two words: Hotline Miami. BUY A VITA". Lastly, you asked if it's not "the same argument that can be made for every multiplat on PC" --- it's not (and I explained why).

A) 3DS library + Hotline Miami (PC)
B) No 3DS library + Hotline Miami (portable on Vita)

B) isn't a compelling argument to me. Yes it's nice that you can play Hotline Miami anywhere. But if you don't get a Vita, and miss out on that enthralling experience of Hotline Miami while on the tube or the toilet, at least you still get to play it somehow (and with great ease).

Sidebar:
I think the most frustrating thing about the Gaming forum is how people can so easily ignore context, misquote, and move the goalposts as the conversation goes along. So you end up in these arguments that never needed to happen. Happens in the OT, too, but not nearly as often. Maybe people feel there's more at stake here with their console of choice. /rant

I bought a Vita earlier this year for Persona 4 Golden and PS+. I got the 3G Vita including a 4GB memory card and 3 games for 150 € so it was an easy choice.

Seeing this at our local gameshop here in the netherlands.
You're from the Netherlands? Get a 3DS for sure then. Streetpass is pretty good here, and that alone is almost worth getting a 3DS for. You're also still in time for the buy 3, get one free promotion from Club Nintendo, so you can build a nice library right away and save some money.

I dont own a 3DS but it has some good games that i would love to play. I love my Vita, its really a amazing handheld, its just too few system seller games. But the Vita has so much potential with the PS4 and future games.

Get the 3DS if you want amazing games right now, get the Vita if you are getting a PS4 and want some great games in the future.

Yeah don't have that kinda of money to buy 3 games at once.

Thanks. *takes mental picture*

By "noteworthy" I guess I mean the games that, by some consensus (either critically or on GAF), have had a particularly positive reception. If we get into more subjective territory then the question kind of falls apart, I think.

Vita. Remote play with ps4 alone would sell it for me if I didn't already have one. But then, I'm not a huge fan of the 3ds control layout.

I mentioned that it reflects my own personal tastes. I should have included Ys, absolutely; you're right on that point. Killzone doesn't really excite me, and I'm often sceptical about Monster Hunter clones - possibly unjustly, but we'll have to see about that.

Tearaway, on the other hand, interests me massively; it's absolutely right up my street.

I was limiting myself to exclusives because I'm a collector; I will own every system, and so I have to frame decisions in the context of what games each one exclusively grants me access to. Although that said, including MH3 on the 3DS list was an error in that regard, given the Wii U version.

One thing I also ought to have mentioned is the Vita's region-freeness compared with the 3DS's lack thereof. That's not insignificant.

Probably not while on the move, though. Do factor that in. If you'll be using the system predominantly at home, it's absolutely a benefit, though.
I suspected that that list reflected your tastes, and there's nothing wrong on waiting only for tearway, but this thread is not about you, this thread is about OP and what vita and 3ds have to offer, OP should have all the elements to decide what s/he likes or not. ;)

Nearly every game on that list has been recieved positively.

Things fall apart even more if we (no doubt) end up having to distinguish things with Metacritic positivity wars.

Is there a bundle with no game and a 16 GB memory card instead?

I hear that the performance of the Jak and Daxter collection is quite bad so you should probably skip that or wait for a price drop.

I have both and I barely use my vita, but I really never buy ports unless I never played the original game and none of the indie games really interest me. The only "port" I own for either is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and that's not even really a port.

So many people suggesting Vita - GAF and its Spec-Boner.

If you like to drown in too many worthwhile games get a 3DS. If you like Spec-sheets and waiting for game-announcements get a Vita.

So can choose between these 2 vita's.

One with 8gb memory card with Jak and Daxter collection.

And another with 4gb memory card with AC3 : Liberation.

Thinking going with the first one, since 8gb is nice.

You said you don't have money to buy 3 games. Make sure to get PS+ then, you will get free games for 5$ a month.

Vita has some great games and so much Indie support. Furthermore being able to play a lot of PS1/PSP jrpgs on the go is very very attractive to me at least.

Vita does have some great games. Yet if I would have to choose from two I would go for the one that has more great games (available and upcoming). Besides if you really love indie games I would buy 3DS since it has way more exclusive indie titles. The Vita has some nice but most of them you can already get on PC (consider here that they run on almost any PC) for a quarter dollar.

All right guys my gut says to me Vita. I thank you all for the help and suggestions :)

Your first port of call is to get PS+ and nab yourself the excellent Gravity Rush and Golden Abyss.

His post is more correct than I would like it to be. Sony has reduced Vita owners to waiting game. Such a shame.
I don't think that's the case for most owners though. There are new games being released all the time. They just don't count in topics like this for some reason.

I'm not waiting for any announcements at the moment, I'm trying to work through my ever increasing Vita backlog. Moto GP13 and Hotline Miami dropping within a week of each other really haven't helped!

That post was nothing but a gussied up 'Vita has no games' textfart.

I don't have either, and I've gone back and forth between the two but I think I will definitely end up with a 3ds xl instead of the Vita.

In looking into the Vita, it uses a proprietary memory card that costs a fortune. It doesn't have many original games, just a lot of ports. And there is no promise of any real must have games coming to the system. Finally, it's in serious need of a price drop.

The 3ds on the other hand has so many games out for it already that I want. I'm just waiting for a good deal on the system.

The one with fewer ports and more brand new exclusives. And physical media BC. And better first-party support. And a cheaper price tag. And a brighter future.

But really, you should buy the one with the games you want to play.

Thee is a vita with 8GB card and 10 games (LPB+Wipeout/Little deviants+motorstormRC+ a few less) for 104E on amazon.

I guess it depends on how much you like to play ports. I'm just not super excited to play something like Hotline Miami since I have already played it enough on PC. Overall ports just aren't as interesting as original content which I find lacking on Vita. We had Soul Sacrifice this year (skipped it because even Monster Hunter doesn't interest me). Still coming we have Tearaway (can't wait), Killzone Mercenary (curious choice to release it so close to Shadow Fall) and Ys (I hope it is still coming to this year). I may have missed some but those were the original games I marked as noteworthy in my mind. Do correct me if I missed some though.

So what I was trying to say is that there's nothing wrong with ports but I wish there was more original content you can't play anywhere else to complement it. As a Vita owner I found E3 disappointing once again. I hope Gamescom will redeem but I'm getting tired of this waiting game. Sony brags about how all of their teams are working on PS4 games but how I see that statement through Vita owner's glasses is a great deal different.

One has Persona 4 Golden.

My copy is apparently in a mailing system limbo :(

Guys if he can't afford 3 games at once, I think it's safe to assume that not having a 32gb card is not a big deal.

Just because there is free stuff on Plus doesn't mean you have to download it. Some games just might not apeal to you.

I can't argue with that, we each value different things. Personally, I don't really get all that much time to play my consoles or PC, so most of the ports are games that I've wanted to play, but never gotten around to. They might as well be Vita exclusive for all it matters because that's where I buy 'em and that's where I play 'em.

I understand the desire for original content, my favourite Vita game (and probably favourite handheld game ever) is Uncharted: Golden Abyss. My most anticipated is probably Killzone Mercs. More stuff along those lines would be fantastic. Thing is, then people moan that they're just spin-offs or that they'd be better on a console and so nothing is really gained in terms of selling systems. Putting a large amount of effort into high quality original IPs would be great, but it doesn't seem like the market is there to support 'em.

Smoky dave said no list wars
Fuck 'im. What would he know?
