GAF re-plays Parasite Eve (2010 Edition)

I visited the Chrysler building while in NY recently and was disappointed to find I couldn't ascend it floor by floor while shooting things. Unless you work there, you don't get beyond the lobby. :(

Taste liberation, vile parasite!

Floor 30 done.

I am going to go insane before this is over.

Be on guard for those mimic boxes, luka. They're pretty nasty.

Yeah I met a lot of them already. Do they get tougher later on?

Finished floor 70. The end is in sight.

This guy ...was fucking hard. As overpowered as I thought I was he had some crazy attacks that instakilled me several times. You just get frozen and caught in this random explosion at certain times and it just...kills you. I have no idea what causes it or how to avoid it. It's just there to eat up your revive stock. This must have been the first truly difficult fight I've had in this game so far.

Time to fight the queen. Here is my final loadout for Round 2:

Off I go.

holy fuck what is this

yay let's heal the boss for 7000 HP. :D

EDIT: ok, so I can't attack when the little Mayas are onscreen then.

Took a little SSF4 break, but I went back and beat her on my first try. :D

It's really not that hard if you hold back a bit and predict when she's going to summon her helpers, it just takes a while.

Regarding what "true ending"... I can't say it's not disappointing after like 12 years of wonder. :lol I know people say the normal ending doesn't happen and the Chrysler end is canon, but it's pretty clear that they're both correct. The way
Eve mentions Melissa and the UB in the past tense and how it was a precaution should they fail
makes it obvious to me that the CB happens after day 6, it's just placed in the EX game for gameplay purposes. Plus in that was area of the hospital (that I only discovered on my last playthough) looking out of a window you can see the top of the CB glowing.

Kind of disappointed that it just 'ends' and doesn't give you a big bonus or let you save. :(
The orchestral credit theme is nice though! :D

And with that, my childhood is finally complete.

How many junk pieces do you have to give to Wayne to get rewards? My inventory is always full since I'm stashing the +1/+2 items for later use.

150, 200, 300.

Also you can get some really good items if you let "Wayne take care of it." However he's prone to making SUPERJUNK (useless can't give back to him) and makes the farming at the Chrysler Building useless. :(

After all that work, the ending was a total let down (IMO). Plus it kinda spit in the face of the normal ending. :/

About 8 hours.

Sweet, good to know. I started this last night and am liking it so far; but my backlog is so big that I found myself hoping that Parasite Eve isn't too long b/c I knew I'd never play through it.

8 hours I can handle.

Damn, I just re-played this game a few months ago. Holds up very well and it's definitely one of my favorite PS1 RPGs along with the Persona games.

I wish there were more RPGs these days with modern, real-world settings. Anyone know of any?

Also, Shadow Hearts (sort of).

Only played about half way into the original game, I love it for what it is but it didn't hook me much at the time. Not played the sequel.

Okay PE-GAF, it's 2011, but I just started my very first playthrough. I'm really digging the vibe of this game, and I especially like the filler-less nature thus far.

One thing that has me a bit confused is the customization system, particularly in light of subsequent playthroughs. I'm up to Day 4, and I've collected all the weapons, weapon upgrades, tools and mod permits/trading cards thus far without using a thing. My understanding is that tools transfer attributes, but destroy the original weapon in the process. Also, I believe you choose one gun to carry over to subsequent playthroughs.

So, should I be waiting for one particular gun to use all of my tools on, mod it for extra slots and then upgrade it with my various +1/+2 and BP? Is there a point to necessarily stocking up on all the weapons? Thanks.
