It wasn't that bad as people make it out to be today. :D
I miss this ad so much with Mr. Hooper from the old school Sesame Street:

Hmm well my answer is rather unoriginal. Its either Duck Hunt or Castle Wolfenstein 3D.

Edit: Oh wait yeah. Pipe Dreams might be first. But I am not even sure if I did play them or just watched my dad play them.

World Class Track Meet, or Duck Hunt. earliest memory of games was playing both of those at my parents friends house during some party or something. Don't remember playing SMB that day though. I was 5.

it could have been an old Sega Master System game we had at daycare...

but I do know that I just googled something...and GUESS F'N WHAT I FOUND???

MY FIRST HANDHELD game.....omg I can't believe I found it *cry.gif*

I can't honestly remember. I do remember playing a lot of Barracuda for the Commodore 64 when we got one way back when. However, I'm sure I played Rat Race on the Vic 20 before that. I also remember playing space invaders on a table top at the social club after my father played cricket.

I just don't remember the order of these events though.

Some ugly game on the Atari when I was a child. Can't remember the name anymore.

But I consider SMB the first game because of the time I spent on it.

I'm not entirely sure but I think it was Paratrooper on my Philips CGA XT.

There's been a dozen threads like this over the tears, but I'll bite... Combat on the Atari. I didn't become obsessed with video games until my family got an NES with the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cart.

Same here, I think. It was definitely a 2600 game. Or maybe Defender? Warlords?

=/

edit: Mister Sword lmao

Sokoban on the only Personal Computer @ my dad's office (because all other terminals in that room were dumb unix terminals with burned out green phosphor monitors):

Good times (i played this on a green phosphor monitor as well).

Probably pong on the atari 2600. That's the first game I have vague memories of. I was probably 3. The first game I really played by myself was SMB/Duck Hunt when the NES launched

It was Combat for me too. :)
Holy shit I love you guys :D That was my first game too! :D Awesome, awesome game. I always thought about it as a cool hobby and would really enjoy playing games on the Atari (Berzerk comes to mind, I quite enjoyed that game as well), but I didn't really fall in love with videogaming until I played Metroid on the NES. And the first time my mind was blown was when I played Quest for Glory on the PC. I remember adjusting the brightness of my monitor because I didn't know what was going on with the colors (my first day/night cycle experience). My mind was BLOWN. I never had a chance.

Videogames, I salute you.

On the Bally Astrocade, or it might have been this motorcycle game that plugged directly into the TV and the controler/console was a handlebars.

Either Pong or a ripoff of Combat on a console that had four joysticks and two buttons and was probably sold by the CORVETTE'S discount store. Ahh, the 70s.

Some game on a Texas Instruments home computer. I can't remember too many details about it other than it was some type of space shooter and at some point in the level, the game said "Avoid the hoppers" in a craptastic robotic voice. I want to say it was a Space Harrier type game.

I believe this was the system, although I don't see the game listed.

Duck Hunt, Tetris PC, Tetris Game Boy.

I got a gameboy for my 5th birthday but I can't really remember if I played anything before that. Family friends had an NES with duck hunt and my dad had a tetris version on his PC.

I wish that I could count all the games I have ever played, but my memory would leave a lot of stuff out.

hmmmm! I don´t remember that well.

I don´t know if it was commando at a friends commodore 64, space invaders and pitfall (atari) or pac man at coin machine.

Its curious you know, my dad never liked consoles for me, so my first game machine was an IBM 286 I think, and I got to play digger, pong and centipede. After that I played lots of space quest, police quest and king quest.

Now that I can buy myself everything I want I have a Wii, PS3 and a PC. I am living my childhood now!:D
