GAF... why can't I grow a full beard?

I had facial growing around 13.

I grew my beard out once during the summer and a lot of people don't tell you is how severely uncomfortable it gets even when you clean it really well.

You need to shampoo and condition so it doesn't annoy you as much.

I would like to try to grow a massive beard and see how it turns out.

All I can say is that mustaches are always flimsy at the beginning.
Just let it grow and trim in between. It needs time and will grow thicker. Patience is the way to success.
"It will get fuller"*

patches without beard are unpatchable(lol) though.
Let em overgrow with surrounding beard hairs.

Genetics mostly. Shave a lot and it might speed up the process of getting a thicker fuller beard down the road .

This is a myth. Shaving more often won't speed up your hair growth and it will most certainly not make it thicker. Shaving often just leaves you with no facial hair for the next couple of days :)

20 years old with a barely visible mustache, few whiskers on my chin and no sideburns. Can't even grow a goatee. All my friends could grow full beards by the time they were 17.

Genetics suck.

23 year old babyface here. I've recently resorted to minoxidil.

I've been on it for one month and have seen some pretty decent results thus far.

I had a decently thick mustache/goatee/soul patch, but only had thin "whispy hairs" on my cheeks that were completely invisible. I've been on minox for approximately a month and my cheek hairs are coming in much thicker and much more visibly. They are still semi-colorless, but i can see them starting to convert into terminal hairs.

At 30 My cheeks are still coming along with a stubborn thin spot on my right..... Hopefully... soon... I too will be a man. lol

For now I sport a rather nice and almost too symmetrical stache and goatee.

Fuck stupid ass genetics! My dad and his whole family can grow full ass beards, but I'm stuck with white trash looking shit. My dream was to grow a full beard when I was younger, but I'm 26, and my facial hair has seemed to stall. Now I got this facial hair that looks like dirt all over my face from the distance, but it's red/blonde/black so it just looks all disgusting like when you get up close. I really got screwed over when it comes to facial hair! I'll never forgive genetics for it.

I can grow sideburns but I don't really like them, that's why I shave them.

I love Eugene Hutz' moustache.

Makes him a lot more attractive. One day OP, with a lot of patience, this could be you. 😉

Best i can do is a pedo quality stache and the weakest goatee mostly under my chin...i probay get 15 hairs per cheek. Its been slowly improving over the years (im 22) and my dad can grow a decent beard so there is some hope especially since his was patchy til he was in his 30s

My father can grow a mighty beard but I can't. Moustache is like dark fuzz. Sideburns are not visible as it's just random hairs. Same with my neckbeard thing. I'm only 18, though, so I hope my dads mighty beard genetics kick in soon.

I'm afraid you're simply fucked for life. I'm 26 and still have a patchy beard. It's slightly better than it was at 23, but don't expect any miracles in the next 5-10 years. Shitty genes means shitty beard. And in my case shitty genes means shitty beard and balding.

Couldn't grow anything decent until I was about 27, but even then it looked horrible until it was grown out. I've had it fully grown for about 5-6 years now. I have a bald patch under my chin which I had to wait for the surrounding hair to cover, and I have a strip down the middle of my chin that grows shorter than either side which gives it a sort of curled effect where both sides curl towards the middle.

Also, bizarrely, it grows longer on the left side of my face but thicker on the right, but once grown out it's not noticeable, and the beard as a whole never seems to grow beyond a certain length. My moustache is the weakest part, it just doesn't grow thick at all.

For most women who complain about beards, I really think they've never felt a proper long one that's been looked after. It's really not much different feeling than the hair on your head. Everyone that's felt mine has loved it!

Anyway, tldr - I wouldn't worry about in your early to mid 20s, mine was late 20s before I had anything decent to show.

My dad had a fine beard. I cannot grow one. I'm 46.

I remember reading somewhere that the genes for facial hair are not passed through your father, but rather your mother. So you'd have to look at your uncle for potential facial hair expectations.

However, i have no idea where i read this.. so take it with a grain of salt.

I use a trimmer to maintain 2.5 mm to 4 mm and straight razor the top cheeks and to my adam's apple around my neck. Any longer and the gf isn't amused.

I don't think any female that i've been aquainted with over has ever liked any sort of facial hair on a man, except for the 5 o'clock shadow stubble. As a result, I've never tried to grow a beard.

Where does this whole "beard is fashionable" thing come from?

All I grew was patchy, thin crap on my face until sometime earlier this year when things began to come in much fuller. It's still a little thin on my cheeks, but my chin and moustache are pretty thick and my cheeks are filling in as time goes on. I just turned 28 on Monday, so it took a while for things to get going.

Just be glad you won't be part of the fad. In 20 years you won't look back at the pictures of you in the early 2010s and try to explain to yourself why you thought it looked good. Excuse me while I continue to photoshop all my 90s pictures to remove my soul patch.

I can grow a decent beard. The hair on my cheeks grows to high and my beard stops right before my mustache leaving a small gap.

A little off topic - but opinions on dyeing your beard? I shave my head bald because of my hairline, but I have grown out my beard and it has a reddish tint to it, which is weird because my hair on my head never did. So I am thinking of dyeing it black or at least a darkish color to get rid of the red to it. Thoughts?

I dunno too much!

Eh, I had the exact same growth and density on both sides of my face for at least 2 years when I just kept it as stubble; one day I randomly decided to shave and when it grew back, the left side was now fuller than the right which remained unchanged.

At the start of this year, I conducted an experiment of shaving as often as needed for 6 months to see if fullness and density would change, and while all-round it has gotten fuller, the right side still hasn't caught up to the left. :(

At the end of the month I'll start the experiment again, but this time for 1 year.

Yours might still come in. My cheeks didn't come in until around 22 and even then the hair is less dense than on my jawline/goatee.

Genetics.

I'm almost 30 and the only place where it grows properly is under my chin and the mustache area. Weird because my dad had really awesome beard growth. Somehow those genes seem to have skipped me. :(

I'm 29, and I still can't. And if it hasn't happened by now, it won't. :-(

I get pretty decent growth along the jaw line, but on my cheeks it's sparse enough that it might as well not be there at all.

Same here, both my dad and my older brother can grow much fuller beards than me. That shit just ain't fair!
