This is unbelievably difficult to narrow my choices down to only 10; I'm eagerly anticipating a metric ton of games in 2006.
1. Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
-The first original singleplayer FF in almost 5 long years; there is no question, this is the game I'm dying to play next year. I have a ton of faith in the team, and I really think it may end up being one of the best Final Fantasies ever. Hyperbole for the win!
2. Warhawk (PS3)
-The footage at TGS was fuckin' mindblowing, and this game still has a good 8-10 months of dev time since then. Aside from MGS4, this is, IMO, the best looking next gen game shown so far. Gorgeous visuals, a seemingly solid looking physics engine, an insane amount of enemies onscreen, the best looking water ever created and all running at a super crisp 60FPS. I can't wait!
3. Every Extend Extra (PSP)
-Mizuguchi is the man, and E3 is precisely his forte. After the sheer perfection of Lumines and the insane awesomeness of Meteos, I've no doubt Every Extend Extra will be one of the best PSP games in 2006.
4. Loco Roco (PSP)
-A gorgeous and innovative little gem that looks perfectly suited to the PSP, and will hopefully kick start a much larger amount of original content for the machine. Plus, I cannot watch vids of this game without smiling and wanting to reach into my monitor and play it myself.
5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (PS2)
-MGS. Online. Fucking insane. The crazy positive impressions this game has been getting in last few days is just icing on the cake. This will most likely end up being not only my favorite online game this gen, but also one of the best. Oh, and let's not forget MG and MG2! Good lord yes!
6. Grandia III (PS2)
-Bebpo and Shouta may be frowning, but I adore this series, and it's incomparable battle system is one of my favorites. I really liked GII, so I have high hopes for this as well, and I'm glad Game Arts has gone back to the traditional Grandia games after Xtreme, which was meh to the nth.
7. Gran Turismo: Mobile (PSP)
-I don't even know if this is releasing in 2006, but if it does, I'll likely play no other game more. Kaz has also eluded to wanting to make this PSP installment multiplayer focused, online and all, and that concept is so mindblowingly awesome I have to sit down while pondering it.
8. Valkyrie Profile ~Lenneth~/~Silmeria~ (PSP/PS2)
-I cheated here; I combined 'em together. =p I missed the PSone game, but I don't plan on doing the same again. I've heard so many good things from so many different people, I'm pretty damn confident I won't be disappointed.
9. Final Fantasy III (DS)
-The only FF I've never played, this remake is a must. I'm a bit weary though, as the earlier FF's haven't aged as well as VI and beyond, but this is still a definite purchase and play, day one.
10. Kingdom Hearts 2 (PS2)
-I loved the first, and the second looks about seventeen times better. The Tron and Steamboat Willie worlds look too awesome to even believe, and more FF characters redone and revisited is one of my favorite aspects of this series.
