Argument in IRC chat lead to the discussion of 2 comparisons.

Shadow of the colossus vs Okami

Star ocean 2 vs Phantasy star IV

So i turn to gaf.

SOTC is a pretty amazing, original, challenging game with really sweet art.

Okami is a pathetically easy Zelda rip off with with really sweet art.

SOTC wins.

sotc>okami
PSIV>SO2

But tbh I havent played SO2 :(.

Also killing giant Colossus > killing your enemies with paint =\

Keep in mind that SOTC is really short.
Yet, SOTC was challenging enough to keep me interested until the end, where as I had to put Okami away after the capital city because the combat AND puzzles were designed for 10 year olds.

Shadow of the Collosus is a beautiful and incredibly fun game that does one hell of a job in keeping you engaged and wanting to beat it, see what happens, then do it all again a few more times, unlocking some pretty sweet stuff in the process. If there was a contest between this and 95% of the games I have ever played in my life, it would beat them.

As for Okami, I, nor anyone I know in real life who owns/ has played it, has ever finished it, and the painting is sort of gimmicky imo, really makes the game too easy in combat, and I've solved harder puzzles in non-games than this shit.

They simply don't compare, SotC is just that good.

SotC was bogged down by its horrible camera. Okami wins!
I liked how raw it felt, you had to be in control with some considerable skill. There was only two bad moments where I had to use my palm because my thumbs were doing something else.

SotC>Okami
PSIV>SO2.

SotC because it manages to be surprisingly emotional with little characterization and story. It has a fully convincing, scary, wonderous, desolate, magnificent, mysterious world.

Not Okami because, except for it's wonderful artdesign, it's a fairly cheap Zelda knock-off without any challenge, the dungeons are almost insulting and gets tedious long before the end. Honestly I quite like the game, but people unrightly treat it as a legendary game which it most clearly is not. It is a very solid action/adventure game, nothing more.

Phantasy Star IV because it's one of the more effortless rpg's around. Everything feels right, it has great pacing, dungeons and characters. Honestly there's very little wrong with the game.

Not Star Ocean 2 because...well I actually really like SO2, but it's just not on PSIV's level of greatness. The game occasionaly felt sloppy and I didn't care for the characters at all. Still an almost classic.

SoTC wins by default by not making you read text for one ****ing hour before the actual game begins.

QFMFT! It's such a stupid thing to do to the player, especially since the dialogue with the little critter was so terrible in the beginning.

Art in SOTC is just too good...by any standards...absolutely fantastic....Okami is really great in that aspect too, but SOTC ethereal look is amazing
