The thing is: The Best Friends are almost too honest about the behind the scenes, compared to Arin and Jon.

Id really rather not continue this debate. It's a derailing of the thread and it puts more strain on a small community.

Let's simply agree to disagree and let it be. It's making everyone else uncomfortable.

I honestly don't know what you're getting at there. They all get along, it's not like they just hang out for the money. It may have started that way with Matt and Pat but Matt admitted that they became closer friends as the show went on. And with all the videos and shit those guys have done there is no way they could fake that kind of chemistry.

Man since Jon left Grumps it's not the same, and I was not a Jon-on-Grumps fan. But I like his solo stuff better than the Grumps, I'm surprised to say.

Super Best Friends thread begs to differ.

But no, a lot of people constantly ask all over the place "What happened with Jon?" And the reason for that is because there's no definitive answer. I've accepted that we're probably never going to find out, but it's definitely still a problem.
 
You can still be curious about the breakup without obsessing over it. Over a year has passed, so it's not like it should actively be on people's minds. Still, it's something interesting to think about whenever it's brought up again via new information.

In the end, I don't care that much, but it still seem like them being under NDA regarding stuff that extends beyond business is a bit absurd. Unless the breakup involved something super illegal, Polaris keeping things under wraps seems like more trouble than its worth.

I drop in here every other day or so to check if there are any comments about SM3DW, see TMZ-GAF up to its usual bottom-feeding affairs instead, and then usually just close the tab.

I kind of wish anything Jontron-related that isn't specifically about his Grumps material would be treated as thread-shitting at this point.
 
In the tiny bit of Nu-Grumps that I've seen, you can tell Arin and Danny's relationship is hollow when compared to the Jon episodes.

Every time this thread is on the front page, I hope there's some discussion about the latest videos.

How great was that last 3D World video? I thought for sure they would just leave it at beating Bowser, but then they actually committed to continuing with the bonus worlds. I hope they don't give up and go all the way with it. This is what I've been waiting on more than anything this entire time.

Definitely.

Their content feels like what modern late night comedy is: stale and somewhat formulaic.

I was watching the old New Super Mario Bros episodes with Jon, and the fact that they argued game design was interesting. Even the DKC episodes talked about what flow is and argued slightly about it.

Even though their opinions were extremely off base and biased.

Danny doesn't do that. He's too happy go lucky and his stories are kind of boring once you hear one. The voices are getting old and Ross is a terrible fit for the show.

If you're gonna have one guy be quirky, you need a straight guy in comedy to offset that and Danny doesn't do straight comedy well.
 
I like Danny, but I said it in the past and I'll say it again. He doesn't have nearly the same amount of chemistry with Arin compared to Jon. I still somewhat enjoy Game Grumps, but I don't watch nearly as much as I used to. The current games they're playing sure isn't helping. I enjoy SM3DW but I can't be bothered to sit through 100 episodes of visual novels. I don't even bother with Steam Train since I don't really care for Ross.
 
I couldn't watch the DKC episodes because they were godawful, and DKC2 is one of my favorite games. I'm willing to put up with a lot regarding the games they play, but butchering one of my favorites just isn't on that list.
 
I just don't get the point of dwelling on it so much. I guess some people need that closure that Jon and Arin had some sort of falling out, and that due to likely financial ties, can't talk about what exactly it was.

I mean, its been over a year. If they ever talk about something that isn't just "it may have not been on friendly terms but i can't talk", i completely understand bringing it up. All your doing is beating a dead horse at this point.

But hey, why talk about the actual show when we could just talk about dead topics and kill any interest most people have in coming into the thread.

That's my last words on it. I'll stop back by when we are actually discussing stuff again.

Have been watching the rest and not really enjoying it. Hell out of the recent stuff the only one I liked was screen cheat. Not a fan of trauma center either
 
Ugh. Enough with the Chuckles thing. They've spent plenty of time, PLENTY OF TIME with other peoples posts, both post-level and world map, since Chuckles. I've SEEN the episode. Arin didn't react at all to the "blank" post. Yet everyone says he freaked out. Fuck. No. He. Did. Not.

But if I'm wrong, feel free to link to proof.

Okay, here's the thing with that, and I'm sorry that I'm picking a scab here but I'm just going to say this and move on. I've seen the episode multiple times and every time that blank post comes up Arin does act differently. Without provocation. There is nothing earlier in the episode that could have had him react in such a way. And why does he act so annoyed over a blank post?

I'd be annoyed too if people were constantly trying to reopen an old wound that they CANNOT TALK ABOUT ANYWAY. Put it in the back of your mind. In a few years when the network they both work for has gone defunct and the contracts are invalid, then maybe they'll talk about it openly. I don't get why this is such a big deal anymore. Danny is so good. And in many ways better than Jon was. Let it go.

One last post from me (I'm sorry) but you make it seem like it's specifically Polaris who is enforcing this when we don't know. It seems like -with all the things we know at this point- that it's Arin who's enforcing an NDA and/or the one who most benefits from it. Because I kinda' doubt an NDA would enforce them not even referencing each other unless there's more to it. If Jon can't even answer if he's still friends with the man then something is definitely up.

Just saying.

Polaris contracts stipulate that you can't disparage other members of the network. It's why Totalbiscuit is always implying that PewDiePie is shit but never actually says it. The reason that they don't answer those questions is because they're legally obliged to either say nice things about each other or nothing at all, which is a silly stipulation because you can immediately recognise holes that not nice things are meant to slot into.
 
So I see this Jon thing is back again and... I get the curiosity, because it does seem fishy, but by now I'm just like what's the point? Like, what is the endgame of these theories and "investigations"? I hesitate to compare this to GamerGate, but it does feel similar in that people are doing way more than they need to. And besides all that, Danny's awesome and JonTron's still pretty funny when he isn't being an ass

Maybe they're trying to finish off some of the currently running shows. Though they did add that new one, but that was Steam Train anyway. They probably want to wait for either 3D World or Second Opinion to end as I suspect it'll show up in one of those slots.
 
Jon for me never had chemistry with Arin. He was a racist prick who whined and gave up whenever he started losing in a game, and he had no idea what he was talking about when he went on his awful rants.

I've never watched any JonTron stuff outside of Game Grumps but I saw enough to know things were going to end sooner or later. He isn't funny, he tries too hard and as I said, racist.

Danny may not be ideal in terms of "comedy duo" material with Arin, but he's an extremely likable guy and will occasionally say something that will make me piss myself laughing. Saying their relationship feels hollow sounds like projecting because you like Jon better. To me, Danny is clearly a better choice and it seems like Arin actually enjoys doing Grumps now as opposed to the last 20-30 GGs with Jon where Arin was at his wits end dealing with his idiocy.
 
It's weird seeing people bring up "likeability" of characters when it comes to comedy shows. You're not actually friends with the characters/personalities and you're not interacting with them. It's like saying you don't like Jim Carry in The Cable Guy because he's clingy/scary when all you're doing is watching him. Watching Dwight on the U.S. The Office can be funny, working with someone like Dwight in real life would not be.

Just look at that r/concpiracygrumps video above. That short vid had more forced cheerfulness/goofy sounds than anything with Jon and Arin. If you can't recognize how Pewdiepie-like those few scant moments were, then there's no hope for you.

Watching them play 3D world really makes me want to play it again.

Also, I really like Danny. I tried to go back and watch a Jon series I'd missed when I quit watching for a while, and halfway though I just thought, "I miss Danny."

So I went and watched the Silent Hill run-through instead.

It depends on the Jon series, but as I mentioned above, the Goof Troop series is gold. In fact, I compare the 3D World series to Goof Troop. It's co-op, but they continually troll the crap out of each other. Every single time Danny hits + while on those sky cars and the power flies out and he makes that sound and Arin gets mad it's fucking hilarious. Every single time. Then Danny misjudges a jump because of the depth perception (It really does cause problems even for me. And I never had problems with other 3D Mario games) and just casually falls to his death, and it just so happens that Arin also is about to die, and they end up starting over and whatever conversation they are having gets cut short, it's amazing.

It'll be a long time before they find a co-op game as good to play like this.
 
3D World is indeed a good playthrough but I hate that Arin over-exaggerates getting mad when Danny messes him up or gets a green star. His forced anger gets really annoying after a while. I don't know why he feels the need to fake frustration when you can tell that they're both still having fun.
 
The Danny/Arin chemistry just feels forced. I think it was in one of the Mario World episodes where Danny say's he's glad that Arin hired him for GG.

Nah, it's annoying. It would be alright if Arin was just like "Damnit, you got it." but instead he's like "You piece of shit, I will end you." and it feels so forced because he does it every time. Well, in the recent 3D World episodes he kinda stopped doing it but he did it all the time in the earlier episodes.

What makes you think it's fake? I would be pissed too if someone kept doing that to me while we were playing. But than that game seems more about competitiveness than cooperativeness.

The secret to comedy is to just say "Huh, whatever" to everything that happens on your show.

Or of course, the fact that at its very core, over-reaction is what comedy IS. Thats all comedy ever is, an exaggeration of something for laughs.

To be fair, it can be incredibly annoying when the other player in Mario 3D World just keeps intentionally fucking up and screwing up things you're trying to do.

I feel like Game Grumps these days can be very hit or miss with their playthroughs, but I actually like Mario 3D World. Mostly because of Danny being a smug bastard.
