Game Informer: Final Fantasy XV's E3 Stage Demo Played Better Than It Looked

After Scalebound and FFXV, I think japanese devs shouldn't try a live stage demo.
Do what Nomura and Kojima did -- pre-recorded gameplay/trailer.

Watching a competent playthrough still makes it look incredibly dull. I don't get how this is better than the turn-based combat of old FF games. The strategy is pretty basic here and it shows how large bosses are almost always the worst. It's so silly to have a huge Titan that throws the slowest punches as well.

I guess Gamestop and SE are having post-e3 meetings on how to proceed with damage control on that e3 demo and this is the result! /jk.

When you want to show on e3 live stage prime time, you better make sure you bring your A game. Or you could just play a prerecorded video instead, no one would think less of it if someone isn't on stage mashing buttons like everything Sony showed.

The on-stage demo may have gone poorly, but I played the demo on the show floor and was massively disappointed. Did not enjoy it at all.

Basing a 50-200hr purchase on a demo that won't play like the game and a shitty presentation is whack. At the very least wait for the reviews, this games being demoed like shit but there is much more than meets

This.

Also, it's a weird section to demo in the first place that they probably wanted to use just because of the massive scale.

Yeah, I'm curious why Tabata didn't play it himself.

The Titan gameplay just doesn't look very fun, and that has nothing to do with the skill of who plays it.

And as someone who's admittedly still bitter about this being a Kingdom Hearts-like game in a once turn-based series (the lack of control over your allies is by far my biggest gripe), what Square has shown in general has failed to convince me that this is the direction FF needs to take. If turn-based battles scare them so much, then why couldn't they just take XII Zodiac's battle system and further improve on that instead?

Oh well. I just hope the assumption that this is dumbed down for E3 is true.

iirc he reviewed not Titan demo but opening 2 chapters of old build(pre beta or something) like IGN or other media and main complaint was about performance issues. I look for his proper words now.

I thought they discussed the Titan demo as well as the early portion? I could be wrong.

It's kind of hard to show off a game that relies so heavily on story without showing too much of said story. I've never once said, "I want to play a game with really good combat mechanics, guess I'll go play a FF game." I think it's just hard to show off a game like this without just giving it all away.

I personally love the end game combat in FFVI, so I play that when I want a good RPG combat system. Granted the speed is as fast as possible and I've been playing it for well over 13 years, so maybe I'm just biased at this point

It'd probably not be a good idea to have a director play a game only for them to not be good at it. Thus making it a bad showing of the game.

Watch the Playststion Access crew play it on PS4. Looks a lot better.

This is much better than the E3 stage presentation, but I still think it doesn't look all that hot. QTEs and slashing against a giant's immobile arm doesn't really strike me as compelling gameplay no matter how flashy it looks, and there's something I really dislike about the look of the combat in general. There's something about it which seems so canned, but I guess I should download the demo and try it for myself.

i never seen a director play before I just assume they don't know how to play.

Kamiya played Scalebound in the same press conference.
