hmm.... Im going with this one as well.

Really?

January: Tomb Raider 9
February: Elder Scrolls 5
March: Battlefield 3
April: Saints Row 3
May: Mass Effect 3
June: Assassin's Creed II-3
July: Darksiders 2
August: Dishonored
September: Borderlands 2
October: Zelda 9
November: Transformers 2
December: Rainbow Six 6
A niche JRPG doesn't seem like their style.

If it's not the next Half-Life game or a Chrono Trigger sequel, this amount of hype won't be worth it.

As for the "most surprising cover of the year bar", these are their reveals so far this year:

March: Battlefield 3
April: Saints Row 3
May: Mass Effect 3
June: Assassin's Creed II-3
July: Darksiders 2
November: Transformers 2
December: Rainbow Six 6

When I think of surprising titles, these don't come to mind.

Here;s hoping January tops Skyrim and TR9.

Hahahaha, I would label that as surprising as Sonic 4 Episode 2.

Given it has been MIA since E3 2010, and rumoredly got a big bump in terms of importance, it wouldn't be too unsurprising. Especially for a January cover reveal.

Gears of War Triology on PS3 is probably my only best guess.

SE will almost certainly never, ever announce a mainline FF or KH game outside Japan.

Now, a Western magazine might get an exclusive on a previously announced title (didn't GI have one on FFXIII-2 earlier this year?), but that obviously wouldn't apply to an FFVII remake.

If it really is as megaton as they say it is, Half Life 3 would be my first guess. The hype around that is huge and it's closer to reality than an FF7 remake, which is more of a dream than anything. HL3 is theoretically a real thing being made.

FF7 remake would still be guess #2.

Shenmue 3 would be kick ass with current-gen tech.

Consoles aren't surprising, we all expect them to eventually roll out.

Announcement of announcements needed to die before they started. Jesus H.

Agreed.

Anyway, let's just hypothesize about FF7 remake for a second for funsies. I actually have no clue what hardware it would be for. My gut says 3DS but not really sure. And I don't say this often, but if that did happen, I would be quaking in my boots if I was Sony.

If it's Half-life 3 or just Ep. 3 I will shit my pants.

It's literally the only thing that will surprise the hell out of me.

Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy XIII Versus

Exceptions that prove the rule, and those announcements weren't made in a magazine; that happened when E3 was at around the height of its status as a genuinely international press event. That's not what E3 is anymore, as the extreme paucity of Japanese announcements at this year's showed.

If it's Half-life 3 or just Ep. 3 I will shit my pants.

It's literally the only thing that will surprise the hell out of me.

But if you know that those are the only things that will surprise you, is it truly a surprise???

If that quote above about this rivaling iPhone Mario or Half-life 3 is to be believed, then a Sony Smash Bros. seems out of the question to me; I don't think people care enough about Sony's characters to bring a party game involving all of them to iPhone Mario/HL3 levels. The quote, again, if it's real, seems to preclude that this will indeed be an HL3 at all.

FF7 remade suddenly feels....likely?

Im starting to see a predictable GAF cycle here:

Media hypes new unannounced super exclusive/game -> GAF takes the hype train at full force -> trainwreck ahoy

Repeat.

Sam Houser says "Grand Theft Auto V is a radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe. We're incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans."

PSM3 magazine also says that they'll be discussing a "game changing" GTAV feature in their next issue (December 14th).

Isn't it tradition for Game Informer to fully unveil GTA games after their initial trailer? I'm struggling to think of anything so surprising that it would warrant this kind of hype though.
