And according to them, a well known artist/designer created a brand new female character just for PSP edition.

From the Gamefront:

Tekken for PSP planned?
18.01.06 - Namco is to work allegedly on a Tekken play for PSP. That writes the Japanese Game Labo in their rumor column. The magazine had maintained already last September that Namco would work on the flogging play. Now the Game Labo supplements that a well-known draughtsman added a new female character. An official announcement and/or confirmation of Namco is not present

Tekken Loading Tournament? :lol

Sorry, couldn't reist. I do hope this news is true though... The PSP could use a killer 3D fighter. Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX has the 2D realm coverered.

Wasn't Game Labo the same source who gave us Soul Calibur DS though? Or was the Resident Evil DS? Or both?

Oh yeah. The rumors section of Game Labo is pretty much full of shit (they had hyped up a SCUD Race / Daytona 2 Dreamcast port, hahahaha).

Soul Calibur DS, Tekken PSP?

It would be pretty brainless of Namco to even attempt a SC game on the DS considering it needs a input device capable of 360 degrees(or 8-ways) of movment. The only way you can get that without using a arcade joystick is with a analog stick, the DS lacks a analog stick.

Er... every D-pad since NES has had 8-way registers. Actually, I usually used the D-pad for SC1/SC2. A DS port of SC1 would be fine, just convert the System 12 engine and add in the extra DC content. Maybe even through Link/Gannondorf/Zelda in there and viola! instant million seller.

This is a very interesting draughtsman and I do hope this flogging play becomes available for the PSP.

Seriously, though, a game like Tekken would be perfect for the PSP imo. The loading shouldn't be a big issue, the aspect ratio and button placement should actually be a benefit, and the genre would lend well to some very impressive graphics.
