Wait. You actually believe them? lol.
That's fucking pathetic.
yep. I'm sure they couldn't afford another one.

Why should they pay for another one? You can't even tell it's him. Nobody would have even known if they hadn't pointed it out. When they did, they immediately said it was unintentional in the next breath.

Their only mistake was mentioning it without anticipating that it would set off the crazies. I guess Hollywood is out of touch with just how nutty, paranoid, and pathetic conservatives are these days. Dem libruls out to get ya Bulbo!

They should pay for another one out of respect for the Presidency of the United States. But, I'm sure they're barely scraping by there, living hand to mouth, so I guess it's justified. Poor liberal Hollywood has to resort to using George Bush heads as props because they can't afford anything else. C'mon Dude.

You can't even tell it's him. It's from the side and he's got a long hair wig on. Of all the things to pretend to be outraged about, this is probably the stupidest so far this year.

Incredible. If it were Obama's head on a pike you can bet they would have sprung for another head instead. What a horrible idea (definitely not only incidental).

*man stares at prop head in utter horror* "My God. Guys! Guys, we can't use this one. This is the head of a former President of the United States!"

"So what? Put a wig on it and turn it sideways, no one will ever notice."

"But think of the DISRESPECT! No, we must buy a new prop. I insist, and shall pay for it myself out of my exorbitant Hollywood-librul-elitist salary."

Seriously, they were in Malta filming on location and probably didn't have a ton of spare heads.

I doubt the folks in charge even noticed it until later.

"no one will ever notice". I'm sure that was the inside joke.
Maybe no liberal would ever notice. But we conservatives have an eye for these things. Call us paranoid. I don't care. We always have to be on the lookout and stay ever vigilant. First they came for Bush, because they feel they can get away with it. Then, it's Reagan. Then, who knows... maybe it's my head on that stake. This is just a little notice to liberal Hollywood to let them know...hey, we are watching your every move, liberal Hollywood. Every move.

The outrage from some of you is laughable. Jesus.

Would you feel the same way if it was an Obama head in a series made by a conservative director?

I've sent them a replica of my head with the written consent to put it on any spike they so choose. I'm totally going to be famous!

"But Ben, what does Fox Nation have to say about this?"

Lol... this parody account is hilarious!

"HBO is owned by Time-Warner, the same network which owns CNN."

Potshot at the end. Hey-O!

I heard conservatives have an eye for these things. It only took them 3 months after the dvd release and about a year after the actual episode aired to notice it.

Some hated it right away for all the child porn.

Man, she better not fucking read the books. The first time someone tweeks a 14 year old girls nipple she'd be suicide bombing HBO's office

yep. I'm sure they couldn't afford another one.

You rent shit like that, you get what they send you, and you use it. If they wanted it to be seen and acknowledged as Bush they probably wouldn't have slapped the Prince Valiant wig on it. Ease up on the paranoid dipshittery.

People would never know by watching the scene without the commentary. Hence why no one noticed until the dvd was released with the commentary. The guy doing the commentary is a fucking idiot though. It's hilarious for it to be an inside joke but to broadcast that, of course it is going to piss people off.

Right.

"We had to use whatever we had laying around..."

Right. On a show where the budget is $9 million an episode, and the art department was already making a mold of Stark's head.

They didn't rent Stark's head, so this cover story is insulting to all of our intelligence.

I have buddies who do lifecasting for fucking fun, on their own dime, and just to get better at it.

There's probably two or three big prosthetics FX on even the slowest episode of GoT, so they have lifecasters there, on set every day, custom making stuff.

You aren't renting shit. That's the flimsiest excuse ever attempted.

Someone who gets to the point of proficiency in lifecasting where you are working on a major production like GoT probably has a closet full of casted heads of all their friends and anyone else who would agree to sit for one. Again, if you are in that art department, you have no need to rent a thing.

Each episode costs that much? Where does that money go?

And that's also probably just below the line expenditures.

You mean, that doesn't include actors' salaries? According to D&D, the salaries alone eat up a large chunk of their budget. If the $60m is just below the line expenses, how huge must the overall budget actually be?

No, the overall season budget was around $60 million, so they had about $6 million per episode.

You're right. They got an extra $9 million to produce the Battle of Blackwater episode, which was worth every penny of the $15 million, IMO. That's how I got my number mixed up. That single episode was a game-changer for what TV can do.

Still, $6 million an episode is pretty stout.

Big enough that they could've spared a few thousand bucks to avoid disrespecting the greatest leader that ever was, or ever will be.

Above the line also includes Producers and marketing as well as actors so I think those numbers may be misleading as that would eat up an enormous amount of the budget. Actors are never lumped in with Below the line, so I'm not sure what to make of their statement to the contrary.

But they're going to cut corners wherever they can. I don't know the truth behind this particular scenario, but I bet they're doing everything they can to save a few dollars here and there, especially when it wasn't even a big deal (if they're telling the truth).

I don't think they are saying actors are lumped in with below the line, they just said that actors' salaries already constitute a lot of the budget. This is why they delay the casting of certain characters and kill off ones that are still around in the books.

I always assumed that the $60 million number that has been widely reported included both above and below the line expenses, because if it didn't this would be one of the most expensive shows in TV history.

It would make sense to be all inclusive but the norm is that they are often separate when reported. Most often, mention of budgets is specifically (though not really implied) to be pure production numbers which constitute below the line. They could be laying out all of the cards though when discussing the show. Also, the budgetary ninjitsu that occurs when putting together a studio budget is insane and the books and public comments are often not in-line with the truth.

Pathetic BS. So I can't finish season 1 now because of a small detail that some people over blew? And I basically have to get the Season 1 box set now if ever want to own the original season in it's entirety.
