Game series you gave up on

I'll always give a series another look if it seems to swerve in an interesting direction. That said, I've tried a fair number of Assassin's Creed games and only really liked 4 (I hated Ezio as a character). Despite the different eras, they all feel so samey, which is fine if you like the core gameplay, but I'm not a huge fan. The sci-fi element contributes nothing whatsoever. In fact, every time I find myself in the future, it only makes me less sympathetic to the Assassins' plight. I mean, if this is what your group is fated to become, then who cares anymore? Most times, I just wish I could kill off all the modern assassins and hop back in the animus forever. Someday I hope they reboot the franchise to make it about the eternal ideological struggle between anarchy and control--showing the excesses of both extremes--with more player choice and a world that reacts to those choices. Til then, I'll just let other people enjoy.

Interesting that no one's given up on Half-Life series so far. :p

Um... this may destroy what little gamer cred I have, but I played HL2 for a couple of hours and didn't love it. I mean, the crafted experience and interactive elements are impressive for its time, but I just didn't find it all that compelling. On the other hand, I guess I haven't given up on the series just yet, as I did pick up Black Mesa last year. *shrug*

I wasn't blown away by HL2 either, haven't played the episodes, but I was curious to see how the story would continue for a while.

HIgh five.
HL1 was just so much better in every regard (except the obvious engine improvement)

Battlefield for sure. Since bad company 2 I was a huge fan (I know, a console battlefield fan ..sigh) even playing battlefield heroes and the other free on pc. But battlefield Hardline, 1 and V... Just repetition and almost nothing new. 1 and V look the same, except for some contextual animations that were already introduced in 4.
Same with Call Of Duty. I hate the clunky enhanced mobility and I'm tired of the "boots on the ground" gameplay. Also I feel that the netcode gets worse and worse every entry.

Dark Souls (and it's ilk). I almost finished Demon's Souls, got stuck in Dark Souls, played quite a bit Dark Souls 2, even less Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3.

Personally, I was never a big fan of the metroid series. It was always so difficult and confusing as I had no idea where to go or what to do at times. It got to the point where I got my copy of the prime trilogy for the wii and gave it to a friend. The prime games were especially hard to play as they were very dark (hard to see) and sometimes the motion controls got wonky and spun me around making me nauseous. The only one I ever completed was Fusion and I kind of liked that game for having direction.

BioShock.

I must've tried playing the first game five or six times by now. Last time I tried I've managed to play it for about for or five hours before I simply couldn't stand it anymore. It's beautiful, it's got an incredible soundtrack, a great narrative and atmosphere in droves. But boy, is it a shitty game! The gunplay is an absolute trainwreck and always reminds me of all the horrendous brown russian FPS from the early Noughties. The movement is sluggish, there is next to no hit feedback, the weapons are benign, the UI is a desaster and the AI a cheating mess. It's actually one of the worst first person shooters I've ever played. As a matter of fact that might be the problem: It never feels as if it was ever meant to be a first person shooter. It would've made for a great walking simulator or at least a nice movie.

Zelda. Not interested in an open world game like that. If anything I'd prefer the opposite, less running around and a more focused dungon experience.

Mario Kart. Love the N64, gave up after the Wii edition.

Star Wars Battlefront. I liked the old xbox games, the first EA SW Battlefront was ok once all the dlc was released, but by that time it was difficult to find full games, and some overall design choices sucked. EA SW Battlefront 2 is even worse. An abandoned train wreck of a game, and as I only like the OT films any prequel / clone wars content does nothing for me. There isn't even an era selector. Again, weird design choices, no capturing command posts, no obvious skins like OT Han, Luke or Leia. It's a really conservative game. Boring.

I should've given up on RE years ago. Came close with 5 & 6, but The REmake of 2 has me hyped. Been disappointed by RE so many times, one more doesn't matter...

Mass Effect is the first thing that comes to mind. I didn't buy Andromeda, but figured I would give it a spin once it was added to EA Access, but spent like an hour and could not even make a decent looking character, so uninstalled it and never looked back.

Destiny: I picked up destiny 2 on PC using $90 blizzard bucks from liquidating some of my wow cash and man was that a fucking waste. I think i got about 4 hours into the first expansion before i noped out and didn't even bother playing the second.

World of Warcraft: I enjoyed going back during the first half or so of legion but then i remembered why i quit back during cataclysm. Blizzard has this very nasty habit with every new raid patch of fucking with classes that become to popular. 1 year clean yey.

I gave up on Halo. I've finished all the campaigns, but I think it's the multiplayer I've given up on. I would by the game day one, play multiplayer for like 2 weeks and quit. It just doesn't hold me anymore. Not when there's games like Fortnite and PubG out there in terms of shooters. Im really curious to see if they can inject some innovation into Halo Infinite. I'll definitely pick it up for the story.

Mass Effect. I was so looking forward to a new trilogy. Then came delays and lack of information that raised the suspicions. Then came the reviews. Now its down to under 10 on sale but from what I recall it seems really doubtful that the series will continue, and with that backdrop I'm not even spending the 10 because I have no interest in a story that wont be finished.

Yeah CoD is the big one. I used to get every release, I think the last one I bought was the one with Kevin Spacey. It's just the same shit every time, I know a lot of games are, sure. But I can't do the online grind anymore, and the community seems like garbage for the most part.

Call of Duty: When Black Ops III came out, I got it and gave it some time and attention. Eventually I just stopped playing or caring. The amount of content felt like too much, it was pretty daunting. Plus there was just so much going on in and out of gameplay that just felt like too much at times. I gave WW2 a chance because it "went back to its roots", but I ended up giving it even less time before moving on. Checked out the Black Ops IV open beta, and yeah, just wasn't feeling it. It did absolutely nothing for me. I hung on as long as I could, but it became apparent that I was tired of it a long time ago/

SW: Battlefront
Call of Duty
Battlefield
Madden
Forza
Halo

Off the top of my head with the most common.

Thousands of hours put into Battlefield and COD over many years and titles. Dropped both.

Loved BF2 Modern Combat and even Bad Company 1 to some degree. Then BF nerfed infantry and lone wolfs. It used to be as a lone wolf sniper I could take out tanks with air strikes missiles, refill my own ammo, and take on teams 1-v-4 by myself and win. Then they started only giving one class meaningful anti-tank weaponry, unless you were a specialist/engineer or in your own tank you were fucked. It just became tank/helicopter warfare at that point. Then they added squad spawning so 1-v-4 turned into 1-v-infinite as long as one guy hung back and hid. Just wasn't fun anymore.

COD, lived the series like a bad addiction from 4 through Ghosts. Then they added the boost jumping, air dashing, and speed sliding, while also gradually increasing TTK every entry. Completely lost it's feel. I liked it when winning a gun fight was about positioning and anticipation. Now it's about who enters the gunfight comboing a speed slide into a double jump air dash to dodge bullets. It also became more kill streak focused ovar the years. Used to be an infantry game spiced with kill streaks. Then it became a kill streak game with a tease of infantry combat between kill streaks.
