Gamefly vs. Gameznflix

Gameznflix is great for me. I'm getting 3 out for 13 a month. The turnaround in INdiana is probabyl as good as it gets. Once they ship it takes 2-3 business days to arrive (usually 2). The best part is, when I return stuff, it get's checked in that night (by the post office) and they ship a new game the next morning. That means total turn around is 3 days.

The big problem for me is that I can't specify that I want 2 games and one movie out at a time. For a week I had 3 games out which was a total waste, and now I have 3 movies out... You really have to manage your list if you want to get a good distribution.

Has anyone experienced this yet? I sent a game back yesterday and today on my account they shipped out my next game with FastReturn:

Quicker East coast turnover FTW!

Fast Return is old news and its very dependent on how your mail is scanned at your local post office.

Well knock on wood, as soon as I started talking up Gamerang one of the games I sent back got "lost in the mail". Hopefully it's a Post Office mistake and not a mistake on their end. But kind of questionable since I've mailed hundreds of things through the Post Office in my life without any problems.

Is anyone aware that Gamez N Flix will no longer be renting out PSP games and movies? One of my two games was usually a PSP game, really sucks.

Is there a reason why they got rid of the PSP section?

Yup

To our approximate 100 PSP customers we regret to inform you that we will no longer offer PSP/UMD titles through our rental program.

On May 14, 2007, the US Postal Service is instituting both new postal rates and significant changes to how they process mail. Companies who use the Postal Service, like we do, will be subject to new processing standards and significant changes in how the mail is processed through their facilities.

The good news is that it is not going to affect your service from us. The bad news is that these changes to the mailing standards are forcing us to discontinue offering games and movies for the PlayStation Portable device. Because of both the disc weight and thickness, we would have to use a more expensive shipping method and slower side of the postal system since these discs are no longer eligible to be shipped as 1st class letters.

We'll still have all of the next-generation games you're looking for and the movies you're want to watch. So, please remember to fill up your Queues.

Thanks,
GameZnFlix

Oh well at least my gamefly stuff is now moving through the pittsburgh center.

Only 100 PSP renters... ouch.

Yeah... Gamefly sent out Pokemon to me today, and I'm HOPING it gets here (Portland, OR) by Tuesday (or early Wednesday) before I set out on my epic journey to Coachella. COME ON GAMEFLY! DON'T FAIL ME NOW!

Fast return FTW?

Gamefly's new east-coast distribution center is an absolute Godsend. That combined with their fast return, makes for a speedy game delivery. It took 2 days for FFXII to arrive, now with their new distribution center. Hopefully this means no more "lost" games. That's one thing I really dislike about Gamefly, the games that get "lost" in the mail.

Oh, and they need better customer service. I sent them an email last year and never received a response.

How can we tell if we're on the new distro center or not? I'm in NYC, so I'll definitely take the Philly center.

You should have received an email from Gamefly. Also when you receive your game, check the inside "return to" address. It should say Philadelphia on it.

I can only speak to my experience, but I'm pretty happy with G'NF. They have a center of some sort about two hours away from my house in Tampa.

Inventory is a problem if you are impatient. But it is cheaper than Gamefly.

2.5 months in and gameznflix is treating me well. I hope it continues, but so far it is better than gamefly. However, most people seem to encounter problems after the first couple monthst so we shall see how things go.

The new PA center has reduced my usual turnaround time from 3-4 days to 2-3 days, not too shabby (I'm in central VA). So far so good, at this point there's really no reason not to go with Gamefly over the others it seems like.

I've been using Gameznflix for a while. You get what you pay for. At first, I was receiving all my titles a day or two after placing them in my queue. Now, the games are in my queue but aren't immediately available, taking over a week to ship. I don't believe their shipping center is competent either. I've received 6 games out at once (sent them all back, because I'm a nice guy) without them even being listed as shipped.

I used Gamefly before, and was disappointed with the shortwait titles and the 5 day shipping. Fast return was spotty at best. Some games were detected, and some weren't. I'm hoping this new distribution center will reduce shipping time on the east coast. I'll subscribe to them again to test it. I live in FL btw.

I subbed to Gamefly a few months ago, mostly to play through some old games I never got around to buying.

I got my first game in like 4 days, which I thought was a decent turnaround. Played it for a couple weeks, and sent it back.

Then my next game never arrived. 2 weeks later I contacted them and they reported it lost and sent me a new one. This one never arrived either. So I went ahead and reported it last week, and they were very cool about it and sent me YET ANOTHER game, and this one showed up. They also gave me a free month.

They seem to think someone at the Post Office is ganking them. Which I am honestly shocked doesn't happen more often than it does.

I don't really mind the longer shipping times because of a few things.

A) Gamefly has sent me games as soon as they come out, on the day they come out. I got SPM that Thursday. Can't beat it.

B) The shortwait stuff for me ships immediately. I had GRAW2 on shortwait and it shipped same day.

C) I juggle the titles so that I am never "waiting" for a game and as soon as I can upgrade to three titles I will.

Price is steeper, but we're still looking at hundreds of dollars saved per year, so I have no problem paying a little more for a nicer site and better supply. With this new distributer, they'll own.

Yeah, same. I've NEVER had to wait for a game that's been on shortwait, which is pretty cool. like I said about Pokemon, I'm waiting for that to come in HOPEFULLY before I leave to Coachella. If it doesn't, I'll just buy it (i was planning to anyway) and suck up the extra 7 dollars or so it will cost it to buy it at retail. As for juggling? WHAT A GREAT IDEA. I love that I'm saving hundreds of dollars a year (I've already saved hundreds by renting GOW2, NBA Street Homecourt, and tons of others) and I really don't mind waiting when I consider what I'm saving.

Anyone in south Jersey have experience with Gamefly or GnF? I'm considering signing up for Gamefly and want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. It seems that with the new east coast distribution center, I should be OK.

Also, anyone know of any better Gamefly promotions than the standard 10 free days?

Ok fck Gameznflix. I've had Spiderman 3 360 & PS3 for over a week on my list and it's still not even on my queue. They are listed "On Order 5/4/07". I've also had Motorstorm on my list for a few days and it lists as... well nothing. Apparently they don't tell you the wait status of a game anymore just an obsure bar which may or may not be full I can't tell.

If you cannot send me recent games then you're useless.

I've had the PS3 one in quene for about 2 weeks and yeah it still says "On Order 5/4/07" for me as well. Might have to break down and go up to Blockbuster to rent this.

I'm sure this was their highest demanded title for some time (as it was #1 on Gamefly's top rental request). How is it that they don't even have the games in house yet to at least indicate a wait status? Not that it means much since I had Rainbow 6 Vegas 360 which was on "Short Wait" at the top of my queue for 3 months before they shipped it to me.

I'm in the mid-west (Missouri), so GameFly's closest distribution center is in friggin' Pittsburgh, PA. o_O I'm hearing a lot of bad things about GnF's long queue wait status, but they're much closer (Kentucky)...

How bad are the turnaround times with GF? Getting games as close to their releases as possible is my top priority...

Well lets see, last time I had GNF they didnt ship anything. At the time I closed my account they still didnt get in God of War 2, WSB2k7, and two other new releases that I cant remember. They may be a cheaper price but they are SHIT. PLus their customer service is horrible. Wait scratch that, you have to have a customer service to be considered horrible. Just spend alittle more and get gamefly.

I gave up on online rental services. Here's what I tried, in order (I live in Wisconsin):

1. Gamefly- best selection, new games shipped right away, AWFUL turnaround time (5-7 business days each way), many older games seemed to be indefinitely on "short wait" status.

2. Gamenzflix - great pricing, was amazing (extremely fast turnaround) at first, then became impossible to get new games. Every new release 360 game went immediately to "on order" status for me even though I kept them #1 in my queue for weeks. ABOMINABLE customer service... I had to literally create SIX customer support cases to get an issue fixed.

3. Gamerang - pretty good selection, usually got new release 360 games quick, poor turnaround time. Even though they were shipping to me from Minnesota it usually took 4-5 days for games to get to me.

Now I'm back to just buying the games I really want to play instead of just renting pretty much everything that comes out. I'm much happier now cause I put more time into the games I do buy whereas pretty much none of the good games I rented got the attention they deserved since there was always something new coming out.

god dammit gameznflix still has odin sphere listed as on order along with wartech, at worlds end, and shadowrun.

they were so good to me for the first couple of months :<

Same here. I switched the other day and they're already shipping Shadowrun and Call of Jaurez from Gamefly.

i don't have any games out right now so i might as well switch back to gamefly.

hopefully the shipping times are a bit better then when i was with gamefly last year... but even if they're not i'd rather just pony up the extra cash for good CS and timely releases.

Might be time to cancel GnF for me.. I'm a stalwart, but it seems like you need to have like 1 item in your queue or you're ****ed. I've had my top 4 items skipped two times in a row now even though they're as high as it ever goes. Show the true amount available or don't show it at all... ugh, I just want to get Cooking Mama for the Wii so my GF will quit pressuring me to buy it for her! ><

it's been awhile since this has been updated, i am thinking about trying out either GF or GnF. can anyone provide recent use feedback?
thanks in advance.

I had an absolutely horrible experience when I tried Gameznflix a few months ago. The website was clunky and slow, and their game availability was abysmal.

I've been using Gamefly since. While they're not perfect, I've been overall happy with the service. Especially when they offer crazy deals to keep games (I got Crackdown for $8)

I use Gamefly myself and have never had a problem. I live in the north east and my turn around time is very good. Probably due to this:

Wikipedia said:
GameFly has received criticism in the past due to the company having only one distribution center, in California. As of April, 2007 GameFly has operated a second distribution center located in Pittsburgh, PA. As of December 2007, Gamefly has opened a third distribution center located in Tampa, FL.

They have more distribution centers now. They just recently sent me an email letting me know about the new one in Florida too.

It is freaking amateur that Gamefly still only has one center. :\

Actually, Gamefly has 3 shipping centers now:

Three Major Shipping Centers
We ship our games from Los Angeles, CA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Tampa, FL. The opening of our newest shipping center in Tampa allows us to provide fast shipping across the entire U.S. Stay tuned - more shipping centers are on the way!

My advice is: don't subscribe to Gamefly if you've subscribed to Netflix. It's absurd how slow the turnaround time is comparatively, and I'm in Southern CA, near a distribution center.

Also, don't expect to get anything on the top 3 (or even top 5) of your queue if the titles are even relatively popular.

My general scenario is: send a game back on Monday, receive a random pick from my queue on Saturday (sometimes Friday, but just as often Monday).

But it's not a BAD service, it's just not great.

I've actually had a different experience. I got Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4 in my hands a few days after they were released. I would empty my GameQ completely and only list the game I really wanted. I would send a game back before the release date and just wait. When they got a copy of the game, they shipped it to me immediately. I didn't give them a chance to send me anything else because I had nothing else listed. I only did this with these two games because I knew they were going to go fast.

But I have tried to rent games that have 'Low' availability and they're not kidding when they say low. It took me a while to get those titles.

A friend of mine plays the system like that too--he's had decent results. For some reason I always end up waiting forever though when I try the "empty queue" trick. I've just given up on getting new stuff and put a bunch of whacky shit in my queue. It's now a lottery to me.

Yeah, I guess it's really hit and miss. Maybe I've just been getting lucky. We'll see what happens when something like GTA4 comes out. I'm going to try the empty queue trick again with that one I think.

Yeah, I'm happy about the center in Tampa since I'm in Orlando :D

I had Gameznflix for about a year but finally cancelled them since their selection was so much smaller compared to Gamefly. My turnaround time at GnF was about 3 days and 5-6 days for Gamefly. My last game from Gamefly arrived 2 or 3 days after they sent it from Tampa. Even though Gamefly is more money you definitely get a better selection.

Sorry for the bump ladies and germs.

I wish I had seen this topic before I signed up with Gamefly this passed Friday. I had been with them previously around the time that Ninja Gaiden came out for Xbox, and then cancelled it because I pretty much stopped playing games for a while due to school work. With the cost of next gen games, I decided to give a rental service a shot.

I put these games in order in my GameQ on Friday (All 360):

1) Army of Two - Very Low
2) MLB 2K8 - Low
3) NBA 2K8 - Low
4) Devil May Cry 4 - High
5) Fight Night Round 3 - Medium
6) Turok - Low
7) Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 - High

I ended up getting Tiger Woods shipped to me! is this shit common, especially with two games that should be available before it on the list?

I am based in NYC, like I said I wish I had read this topic before taking the plunge. I would have liked to try out Gameznflix, even though I have Netflix anyway (Which I freakin' love).

What are turnaround times like now with the Pittsburgh shipping center?

Happened to me recently.. had DQ Swords like 8th in the list and then found out they'd shipped it. Earned a big ol FUCK! from me, but I ended up enjoying the game so it's all good. I just wish GF was $5 cheaper or so... I've had it for long enough to get those benefits now though so I just stick with it.

Realistically since I can't play as often as I used to, I should go for the cheaper option, but when I was with GnF I never used 'Keep It' -- has anyone had success with that from them?

I'm sorry, but GamezNFlix just HAS to be worse than GameFly (which won't ship to where I live). I have about 40 damn games/movies and I still have periods where they RECEIVE the games and don't ship me anything for almost a week because nothing I have in my queue is supposedly in stock. It's pathetic. I haven't gotten any game from them that's been out for less than 6 months. NONE. I'm getting Forza 2 this week when I have tons of games above that. Newer games like COD4, Army of Two, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, etc.

Dropped Gamefly because the time between sending a game in and getting a new one was at least five days (East Coast, NYC) -- meaning if I send a disc out on Monday I get the new on on Friday. Weekends really screws things up. I decided not to rent anymore, it's just not worth the hassle. The PA distribution center didn't help me. With Netflix they get the disc the next day for me -- if I send out on Monday, I get the new disc Wednesday.

I love Netflix too.

Don't fall prey to Gameznflix.

Gamefly has only gotten better as I have been using the service (not a full year yet, but almost).

The key is, empty out your queue of all games except the one you really one (Pro Tip: Make a .txt file on your desktop with what games you want, add them to your queue manually). I keep hearing this is a confirmed as working thing, however I haven't had a game on the top of my list that I haven't received yet, so I can't say this works from personal experience. Worth a try before you quit the service.

About the shipping center.. I am in Orlando, since the Tampa center opened, I have like a two day turnaround time, before that I was only getting stuff from the California center with a turnaround time of almost a week.

I ended up giving up on both of these services.

GameznFlix-Fast but never send the game I want.

Gamefly-painfully slow but ship the games I want.

We need a merger...

Edit: Houston Area

i have had gamefly for around a month and a half, and i'm extremely pleased with them. i ship a game back on day 1, and by day 3 there's another game heading my way. i have beaten god of war 2, played a great deal of the simpsons game before it got boring, and beaten call of duty 4, which is being shipped back today.

i highly recommend it for anyone wanting to play a lot of games. it's been a nice solution for me.
