Gameinformers GTAIV Q&A inside!

I think it's highly likely both will receive the same DLC after release, but from all reports, the X360 version will be the sole recipient of some other DLC. After all, MS isn't going to be giving Rockstar 30 million for nothing. That kind of money can fund three large titles on its own.

Bishop, what's with all of the Chris Cornell 'You Know My Name'/Casino Royale theme lyrics in your tag? It is a well-written song and done really well with Cornell's voice, of course. You still longing for a Soundgarden reunion (as many of us are)?

Do you have any proof that Microsoft is paying Rockstar $30 million? I don't remember Microsoft or Rockstar stating this.

It was disclosed in an MS (and/or Take 2) shareholders' meeting last year. That kind of money isn't just for some co-marketing effort, I'm sure of that.

Well, we know how (in)accurate the Lost Planet budget reporting was, so I'll take this with a grain of salt.

They mentioned that they got the info for their article from the Gameinformer Q and A, there's no mention of the PSN in that.

Chris Cornell and Chuck D are the two greatest lyricists known to man. Any opportunity I can take to share their wisdom and insight is a risk well worth taking. That said, Cornell seems pretty adamant about writing and recording his own stuff, with no SG reunion in the cards. If he does change his mind, I hope he does it soon - I'd hate to hear him try "Slaves and Bulldozers" at age 50, causing his vocal chords to spontaneously combust. :|

Well, I'll just believe what seems most logical, at this point.

Indeed, Bishop.
Let's hope for some good solo stuff.

There are no airplanes in the game, but flying is still there. One means of this is the helicopter.

If choppers are one means of flying, and there are no fixed-wing aircraft, I'm wondering what the others are (or indeed if Andrew Reiner just doesn't know what he's talking about).

Well, I'd like to see base jumping and the rocket pack return...as I'm sure they will. That's quite enough ways to get up there, IMO.

am i the only person who doesn't give a shit about eating, working out, or interiors in general? the only decent interior in the gta series so far is in some of the casinos in gta:sa imo, and that's only because they're huge. every other interior just feels stupid and tacked on, so if they're around the same in gta iv, i don't care if there are load times or not.

Now that I think about it, Volition got their asses handed to them as far as technical prowess.

Or could it be that IGN is once again posting false information? I'm sure it's that. The magazine is public domain now as you can purchase it in your local Gamestop, so I don't see the problem in quoting directly from the magazine.

Both versions of the game will likely be identical, but Rockstar has confirmed that downloadable content will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 version

That is a direct quote.

That was pretty much confirmed to me after playing Crackdown. As much as I love Saints Row, it's stuttering frame rate and inelegant streaming let it down a little.

The GTA series is well-known for being many many games in one. It is a racing game, a shooting game, a 'Crazy Taxi' game, a rhythm game (shock-bouncing low-rider game was clever), RC racer game, (crude) platform game, etc.

That is why it has always been a great gaming value. I've always been a big fan of the Vigilante mini-game where you steal a police vehicle and have to chase down & apprehend (kill) a criminal.

As little additions & add-ons they are OK. And it is funny to make your character eat Cluckin' Bell until he blows chunks. :lol

Interiors are nice to have as needed. But I don't understand these people that want to be able to go into EVERY building. Why? What a waste of dev time! I'd rather have more missions & mini-games.

Well, they can script a ****-ton of missions relatively easily. I'd like to see every building, within reason, have interiors that you can take the action to. If you're just dealing with one large cityscape, why not just create some basic types of floorplans (complete with embedded waypoints/nodes for pathing) common to each type of building with procedural work/prop placement with each living space dedicated to a set of AIs? You could have some awesome car chases that transition to on-foot chases and eventual interior shootouts. More important and unique buildings could have more heavily crafted interior work because you'd likely be interacting with common characters in them regularly.

According to a source close to Rockstar North, the team is working on exclusive supplemental content for both systems, which will be made available for download via Microsoft and Sony's respective online services after the game's release next year.

That's, once again, the now ancient speculation, Sorry Sony. Until Sony and Take 2 release official info saying different, only the X360 version has exclusive DLC.

Wrong methinks. Both versions will have DLC. The 360 version will have exclusive DLC.

That "source close to Rockstar North" thing keeps getting quoted everywhere. While I can't see the PS3 not getting DC, any exclusive stuff is just an unsubstantiated rumor at the moment.

If Sony had any exclusivity agreement with GTA IV, I'm sure they'd be yelling it from the roof tops instead of just keeping quiet about it and potentially losing sales to the 360.

11.Can you buy properties like you could in Vice City?

Again, no specifics were given, but Dan did say that this isn’t a game of real estate, or from rags to riches. I wouldn’t be surprised if you eventually do find new places to call home, but it sounds to me like properties might be handled in a different way – perhaps tied to moments in the story.

Good. Vice City and San Andreas both had the same outcome - that of the main character becoming some super high-in-command chief executive. I'm glad they're taking a different approach with GTAIV. There is a lot more potential for the narrative if Rockstar doesn't retread their path.

As for the draw distance, I didn’t see one building, car, streetlamp, or pedestrian pop up. The framerate was also incredibly smooth and the lighting really couldn’t have been much better.
Wow, this sells the game for me. Texture popping ruined GTA3 for me.

Agreed, I'm frankly getting sick of the rags to riches storyline in GTA.

All I want R* to do is put out a full GTA that better than GTA:SA (don't care if the story is as long). I want more exploring, more things to do, and more ways to forget what I was on my way to explore/do. This should be in the core game, and not some crap DLC rip off mess. Leave the gold/plat cars and such for DLC. If Xbox exclusive DLC is like LCS or VCS on psp (then ps2) I wouldn't miss it. If it's like Bully 2.5 that would suck for me but not much seeing I'd have to pay for it anyway and yet to play bully.

I'm guessing a hot air balloon is another option...

I reckon that the PS3 version will include every single GTA game on that massive Blu Ray disc in a limited edition version.
So that way Sony gets something of their own, while MS gets the DLC stuff. Though I do think PS3 will get something downloadable as well at some point.

BTW, it would rock if the talk radio station was voiced by Howard Stern. He'd probably cost a small fortune, but the vibe it would add to the game would be awesome.

It was reported some time ago that MS paid about 30 million dollars for exclusive DLC. That is likely enough money to entirely fund the development of the game itself.

Oooh, how about this? Updates to the talk radio station as part of the DLC? That would be very nice.

Read post 115 of what I've posted. That is word for word from the magazine. Whatever, if it makes you sleep better at night to hold onto baseless rumors, be my guess.

I really don't understand what the problem is here. As Icebeezy said, he is quoting directly from the Game Informer article. I have that same magazine. His quote is accurate.

It clearly says that "Rockstar has confirmed..." that DLC will be exclusive to the XB360. All the other rumors cite a "source close to Rockstar".

At this time, the information in Game Informer seems to be the real deal. Having said that evelopers have backtracked before so you never know.

Hey I just realized:

If there is no loading when you go inside a building (and I think it was said you can actually see inside and out of buildings?) then this would mean that the police and the enemies can get to you even when you are inside a building, which means it's going to be harder to run away from them now.

Yes. Saints Row does this too.

The best news about GTA IV is that if you turn, cars won't vanish anymore! I hated seeing a nice car, turning around to go after it and being pissed off because it vanished.

It really seems to burn a lot of people that X360 is apparently the lead version and will have exclusive DL content. If you're so concerned with owning the definitive version of GTAIV, just buy a X360.

It's nice to know that flying will be in and won't have to be cut due to lack of space or streaming or whatever the Saints Row guys were talking about. DVD's got some next gen legs.

pathetic bump.

Like it matters. All the GTAs were built on PS2 hardware last gen. and they were pretty damn huge, and they were built with no hard drive in mind. I think its pretty hypocritical to start crying about it now.

No actually I bumped, saying that the cops can probably now chase you all the way into buildings since there is no more loading, which will/could make the action sequences more fun.
