Gamepro Ranks the 32 Best PC Games

"Well, it depends how you're determining how "big" a game is. Is it the userbase? Is it revenue?

If you're going by userbase, you can't be counting expansions. All the owners of expansions will have purchased the original game. Therefore, the size of the userbase can only be as big as the sales of the original."

Now, you're just trying to muddy things up. You're also ignoring that the Sims franchise is more than just the Sims 1. Just like the Warcraft franchise is more than just WoW.

Where are the:

Ultima ?
X-Com ?
Star Control 3 ?
Shogun: Total War ?
Battlefield 1942 ?
Master of Orion ?
Civ 2 ?

I think the person making the list didn't start playing PC Games until after 2000.

Well I thought this list only listed individual games, and not franchises.

I need to say this again, WoW is bigger then the Sims because the Sims is not a game for gamers. Who the fuck cares about the Sims here? No one.

It's hard to make a 'Best of PC' list because you have so many great games over the last 15-20 years. But I mean, no Total Annihilation, no Baldur's Gate, no Gabriel Knight, no Duke Nukem, no Jedi Knight, no Age of Empire, no UT99? No words ... no words.

Ad what is doing Sins of a Solar Empire doeing there is that list? It is nice, but there are so many other games that deserve a spot in this list. And UT2004 over UT99? Oblivion????? Indigo Prophesy??

Yeah someone in this thread already mentioned it's stranged they screwed up which versions to choose. I haven't played Supreme Commander much, but I've always heard it was flawed compared to TA (which I played to death).

While I don't care about The Sims at the present time, I have cared about it before. I never cared for WoW.
Therefore, The Sims is bigger.

:lol

What are you all complaining about? They include the best games from the PC, only in the wrong order.

Deus ex, half-life 1-2, grim fandango, fallout 2, system shock 2, starcraft and diablo 2.

Is this list supposed to be best selling PC games or something? Because that would make more sense for WoW to be at the top.

well what are you asking that question for if you're gonna answer it yourself right afterwards? :P

The reasons for WoW being #1 are so retarded and completely unrelated to what makes a game enjoyable. Thousands of servers, guilds and millions of players? That doesn't somehow make a game the best game ever - that just makes it a successful MMO.

You know that whenever Indigo Prophesy is not only on the same list as Deus Ex, Grim Fandango, Half Life and System Shock 2 but on the same damn page and is still listed higher whoever constructed the list is a fucking retard.

That's the single worst list I've ever seen and I'm pretty sure I'm being fair when I say Dan Tennant should be fired from his job in games journalism, if not literally.

X-Com?
Bard's Tale?
Star Control?
Syndicate?
Master of Orion?
Lemmings?
King's Quest?
Mechwarrior?
Master of Magic?
Sim fucking City?

I'm going to take this as Best PC games if you're born after 1990

Even so, your own numbers show the original Sims as larger.

But we don't have numbers for WoW. The numbers available are the number of subscribers only. Certainly there are many people who bought the game but no longer subscribe.

Shitty list if I ever saw one. As if anything on that list is better than X-Com, KOTOR than Baldur's Gate or Torment, Half-Life than DOOM, Oblivion than Morrowind, Red Alert than Red Alert 2, and wtf at #s 2, 5, 9, 16, & 23.

The minute you fools start bitching about the list and its omissions is the minute these editorial sites earn your mindshare.

Hey look, it's a list of games. We've prob played all of them and each of them brings different memories. How you can stack rank games of different genres on top of each other makes zero sense. :)

Not to say I wasn't guilty of the same type of content in my previous life.

Go Quake 3! Excellent!

Even if it didn't beat WoW, its nice to see it far above the recent PC hype trains.

Pandora Tommorow was the worst in the Splinter cell series and its on there.

And it is above several games that are far, far superior.

PC lists tend to be awful. There is even more division among what types of games people play than on consoles, and within each category it can be apples and oranges (I like UT2004, but higher than any version of Counter-Strike?).

not a single god damned wizardry or ultima game. No zork either! and not a single fucking roguelike.

Anyone else think thier multiplayer was really awesome during this period?
Allied Assault:

That game had OMG multiplayer.
I still DREAM about having that same feeling again. No game will ever give me the same feeling again.

Crysis is better than Half life 2

This isn't a 32 best pc games so much as "32 PC games Gamepro staff has actually played that don't suck"

What's weird is that a lot of those games are really good but they're just strangely out of order. It's like it was compiled by a 14 year old with an older brother who has pretty good taste in PC games.

edit: also it makes me sad that over the years many great gaming publications have come and gone, yet shithouses like gamepro stick around like venereal disease

lol terrible.

This may be an opinion piece but this guy seriously has the dumbest opinions in the world. Did he finally get a PC and decide to make a list of PC games he had heard of in most frequently discussed order? "Oh, I hear about World of Warcraft all the time that must be the best game ever!"
