No one is taking a poll. Let a mod decide if something is in the wrong section. It's annoying how prevalent these type of posts have become.
It's been like that with gamers for years. Don't like the behaviour on Xbox Live? "Just mute that shit" and the problem apparently disappears forever, based on the way some people talk about it as though it's a permanent solution to a very big problem in gaming's subculture.
We've been erroneously taught that ignoring a problem that has a human element weakens it and makes us feel better by not paying attention. And when has ignoring anything ever worked out for anyone?
Pretty much. Its a shame they poisoned the well for people calling out game journalists.
I would argue that was also part of the reason the core hate-group of GG wrapped that issue around itself right from the start: what better way to keep someone from discussing something they don't want to change? Because if games journalism changes, it would become a self-congratulatory SJW abomination, by their estimation. So tear down any ability to have that discussion so long as they exist and everybody wins. They clearly want gaming to stay exactly as it is, so that obviously extends to the media surrounding it.
I'd call it a brilliant move if it weren't revolting.
And besides, I'm not afraid to talk about the ethics of games journalism and neither is any right-minded person, so long as there is reason to. But the press themselves are beginning to call out the bullshit, especially the more independent press, so there's simply less motivation to when the press has begun to take baby steps to self-policing.
Why are we asking whether gamergate news belongs in OT? On what planet is that not related to gaming?
Super sick of the people who'd rather wish it away by ducking and hiding while other people are targeted for threats and harassment. It's bad enough that no major publishers have spoken out against GG andso few game journalism sites have taken a strong stance, the least we can do at GAF is acknowledge this disgusting behavior and do our part to call it out when we see it in our gaming communities.
Exactly.
Some people did think it was about ethics though, it's just that it was never actually about ethics
Anyone who legit thought it was an ethics-based movement needs to learn how to pay better attention to things. Nothing that ANGRY could be based in something as high-minded and emotionally-irrelevant as ethics.
