I have to say the "user profile" icon is retarded.

First of all, of what significance is a head with an arrow? Maybe it's a "house" with a face inside it? Like...your house...load your house-face. Thing.

And it's not even centered.

Another screen showing bitrates, no sign of VBR though, unless it's simply not in part of the menu that's shown.

For some reason it completely slipped my mind to even think it would do CD Ripping, :lol!!

Yeah, thats what I think it as well. I'm really interested in what Video file formats will be compatible and if any encoding will need to be done like the psp.

seems you can select what format you want the music to be ripped in..
MP3/AAC/ATRAC

It does have that minimalist look...seems pretty sleek

It'll be animating too like the PSP


lol @ ripping music albums...hopefully the Sony cd protection thing won't install spyware :lol

Not at the same bitrate. That wouldn't make any sense.

Now if you meant better sound at lower bitrates, maybe-- I don't know enough about ATRAC.

I'd still pick AAC for compatibility. It may be as good or better than ATRAC.

I'm not 100% sure about it either...taken from wikipedia
Sony's official claim is that ATRAC3plus at 64 kbit/s rate provides a quality comparable to MP3 at 128 kbit/s, placing this codec in the same league as WMA (with similar claims from Microsoft).

Not sure how much that holds true, but I was under the impression that ATRAC files were smaller than mp3 at similar sound qualities. But I suppose the minidisc/walkman thing would be needed for japan as well.

Hopefully they will allow more than one folder deep this time, damn that was annoying on the psp.

Yes, that's entirely possible. There isn't anything inherent to the ATRAC format that would make it smaller, though.

AAC still owns.

What, CD ripping, and no lossless format supported? Only lossy? For shame.
FLAC or WavPack need to be supported, imho.

PSM has gotten a PS3 in office (same way PSM3 did in how a Sony rep brought it), they get a walk through of it

wow - many cool things revealed, like the automatic colour changing of your xmb background in response to the actual daytime.
