OK, so I just upgraded to Win7 this week and, while most of the OS is a nice improvement, the Games Explorer is a step down and removes a lot of functionality. Furthermore, I've always use Vista Game Explorer Editor (VGEE), but I'm having no luck getting it to work.

It looks really nice when setup properly...

...but replicating this on Windows 7 is proving difficult.

Anyone have any tips?

Personally I haven't gotten any luck getting VGEE to work with Windows 7 either, though maybe I'm doing something wrong. Hoping someone finds a solution, or posts a cool way of displaying games on Windows 7 that isn't a pain in the ass to setup (Most media center apps for example)

I too noticed that it removed some functionality, which was really strange because pretty much everything else in this OS release added functionality. I found that if you just customize the icon before placing it in games explorer you can get it to do what you want, but that's a silly solution, and only works for me because I run most of my stuff through Steam anyway.

I never had vista but on windows 7 the game manager is untouched, if I used it in vista then found stuff was removed I would be a bit pissed too.

I just use steam also.

I've always wanted a program that lets you add your own games and boxart, then displays them in GOG.com fashion and launches them (obviously), so I don't have to use steam:

So, no solutions to this, huh? Very frustrating. Having everything organized with nice images was a huge feature in Vista. Only games that were designed for Vista work with the GE in Windows 7. For instance, I just installed CoD4 to prepare for the second game tomorrow and it won't add an icon to the GE. If I drag one over, the icon is garbage (small) and I can't fix it.

Indeed. At the very least it should use the same theme as Windows (as an option) as well as larger icons. It hasn't progressed visually in the last 5-6 years.

Fuck me yes. You can't even enlarge the font size, which makes using Steam on a HTPC/TV difficult.
