Games on the eshop are more expensive?

As opposed to where? Pricing is identical between like, a Best Buy and the eShop for example. If you have Prime you're getting a discount on Amazon though.

Is this your first experience with a digital store? Pricing is standard.

All cost the same as retail MSRP. Same way in every platform.

That some retailers have deals, offers, etc . is a separate matter.

Yeah, that's always the case on eShop. Especially Nintendo never drops prices on eShop, whereas you can see big discounts at retail.

Same MSRP.

But the reality is that retail is MUCH cheaper if you're doing it right (i.e. using discount tools like Bestbuy's GCU, watching for special deals like Visa Checkout promos, watching for sales etc.).

If you have money to burn and you don't care about having physical items and maintaining consumer rights over things you own, then digital is great. Instant access to your games, but you'll be paying lots more, and you'll need to buy at least one mSD of decent capacity down the road to hold them.

I'm going physical whenever possible, and digital for those games (mostly indies) where physical is not an option. The nice thing about indies is they're generally quite small, so the internal storage will probably be enough for quite a while.

Zelda is $59.99 on the eShop.

Zelda is $59.99 at Retail.

Explain.
Zelda is €70 on the EU eshop.

OP, it's like you've never visited the Eshop before. Is the Switch your first modern Nintendo console? No 3DS or WiiU?

What a bad advice. Don't buy any digital from any publisher ever, right?

Nintendo hasn't gotten to the point of being aggressive with their digital stores yet. 3DS sees some deals.. Wii U is pretty bad for deals.

To be fair, Sony and MS were shit for digital deals at the start of the gen as well. Sony ONLY started getting better on PS3 toward the end of that gen.. and even then it wasn't close to retail stores. It wasn't until by like summer/fall 2014 that Sony got their shit together with PSN sales (non-sale prices are still crap on PSN).

At the same time, Nintendo is the same company that sells the current Pokemon titles at $39.99, always. And sells the previous Pokemon titles at $29.99. And sells Smash at $59.99 until it goes to players choice.. etc.

my guess is Nintendo will get a little more competitive with eShop if Switch is successful.. but will still be Nintendo when it comes to pricing on mainline titles in premiere franchises.
