[Games Radar] Xbox just revealed Gaming Copilot is coming to "current-generation consoles" later this year

Microsoft has announced that its Gaming Copilot AI assistant, which has been available in beta on PC, mobile, and the ROG Xbox Ally since last year, will be coming to current-gen consoles in 2026.

"I'm excited to announce that later this year, we will bring Gaming Copilot to the current-generation consoles, and we will continue to bring it to more services that players are playing," Sonali Yadav, Xbox's gaming AI partner group product manager, revealed at a Game Developers Conference panel attended by GamesRadar+.

Presumably, "current-generation consoles" simply means Xbox Series X/S, though no specific platforms were called out in the announcement.

As it currently exists on other platforms, Gaming Copilot lets you ask guide-like questions about the game you're currently playing. Microsoft's official site offers an example question like "Can you remind me what materials I need to craft a sword in Minecraft?" You can also ask for game recommendations, or your own play history or account details – helpful, I suppose, if you've forgotten when your Game Pass subscription is set to renew.

Gaming Copilot has been in beta for some time on non-console platforms, without much wider buzz (positive or negative) in the gaming community, but that may change once the AI assistant reaches a wider audience on Xbox consoles.

Either way, Microsoft appreciates the data from those who've used the feature up to this point in beta. "We've learned a lot this past year, and appreciate all of the feedback that we've gotten from from the community," Yadav says.

What does this even provide exactly. Legit wondering
Allegedly being able to ask it questions for help during games.

It can see what you are seeing and generate context based on that and then has scraped all the content creators on earth for tips and tricks it can give you so Copilot can barf out a suggestion you hope isn't a hallucination or some bad advice from reddit.

Coming soon, someday, future, just you wait.
Yes, lots of waiting when MS name is on it.

This will be hilarious. The only place I see GPT and Claude consistently hallucinating anymore is gaming advice. They make shit up all the time when I ask advice for Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Nioh, it's incredible really.

Yup, it's because they are (compared to people think) incapable to hold memory - they don't browse facts, they programmatically estimate them.

I'd imagine they use some kind of RAG that is populated with info from gaming forums, walkthrough sites, Reddit posts, etc.

Uuuuuh I can imagine the outcry when Clippy 2.0 pops up asking if he can help you with that puzzle you`re stuck on.

Let's do this AI bros! It's hard standing for something alone. I'm like you and Xbox but for AI. Xbox and AI and myself should throw our lot in together and kick some ass, take some names.

The second we allow AI bots to partner with players agnostic of the game and do couch co-op is the day we save fighting games we save beat em ups and we start the long hard work of education around AI.

The buccal fat of an AI chick can never be removed. Imagine the power.

Someone explain to me like 5 how it's even going to be used or useful in a closed environment?

Is it going to be like Kinect that your console can 'hear' you if you say shit like I need help with this area or something?

xbox copilot sign out

It's hilarious they're not even waiting until the next gen. The push to inject their ai into everything is too big.
