Games that are worth playing for their soundtracks alone?

Child of Light - I really liked the soundtrack for that game. More than the game as I sort of just tapered off playing it but I still listen to the soundtrack.

Listing rhythm games would be cheating, wouldn't it? Because seriously, if you don't like the music at least enough to tap a thumb with they'd just be glorified QTE, and those ostensibly are only supposed to be any good in games with otherwise different gameplay because it's a way to simplify doing something awesome looking while making you still play a role. Though I guess there's something to be said for, say, favorite Guitar Hero/Rock Band, nevermind how Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan are just as much about what is going on as about keeping up with the music.

So other than that... Nier, Metal Gear Rising, and the Ys series jump to mind. Mind all of them are great to play for other reasons, but I feel like especially for MGR it adds a lot to the music when it's paired with the gameplay (and vice versa really.)

Really loved the mix of traditional orchestra along side with more of a techo/glitchy feel.

Also:
-Bioshock Infinite
-Empire Earth
-FTL
-Mass Effect series (especially 3)
-Sanctum 1 & 2
- Bastion
-Transistor
-Earth Siege
-Halo series
-Ocarina of Time
-Majora's Mask
-Spec Ops: The Line
-Battlefield: Vietnam

Pretty much any game in the pre-modern Medal of Honor series. The music by Michael Giacchino and Christopher Lennertz is that good.

Prince of Persia 2008
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness
Heavenly Sword
WET

(Not that I think there aren't many more good reasons to play these games but I do think the soundtrack is a good enough reason on its own.)

EDIT: Oh, right, Remember Me, as well.

I just got Transistor through PS Plus and am playing through for the first time. That soundtrack is incredible so far.

Also The Last of Us, Bioshock are insane.

Nier is the best example of this. Shatter also. Alan Wake is another one where I like the soundtrack better than the game.

The 8-bit Mega Man games, Castlevania 1 and 3, Contra, Super C, Blaster Master, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Batman NES. Can you tell that I adore chiptunes?

- Final Fight: this game hasn't aged very well and you have to grab the Sega CD version to have quality music, but it's worth it.

- Duck Tales: there are better games on NES, but the soundtrack was epic. Moon level was the best.
