Games that get tremendously better mid-way through.

Dark Souls better after Anor Londo? I guess that's an opinion.

I think Wonderful 101 is a good example. There's not much in the way of tutorials and it can be kind of frustrating until everything just clicks into place. And then it's just magic.

witcher 2...good lord what a difference. i still cant play that intro dragon level. so annoying. once you get to flotsam its great, and then...then, the fun begins.

Agree, Witcher 2 starts slow and a bit clunky until Flotsam (currently playing and enjoying the hell out of it). I didn't play the first one though, so that's probably one of the reasons.

Devil May Cry 4. Starting out with Nero and about 5 moves was horrible. By halfway through, you have access to more like 25 out of 40 and have full access to his Devil Bringer (counters, attack animations, etc), Blue Rose (charge shots), the Exceed system, and other combos. And then you also get Dante. By then end you have access to quite a few weapons and moves with Dante and Nero. And after your second playthrough, you get Bloody Palace (where I have probably dropped over 50 hours in to).

That's a tough call. On one hand, Dante was a breath of fresh air. On the other, you were literally backtracking through the entire game, fighting the exact same enemies and bosses. I remember souring my taste of that game.

recently Strider.
the first part of the gmae and especially the ver beginning is like wtf am I playing here.
But once you get 2-3 powers the game opens up tremendously.

The Last of Us. The second half is much better paced and less of a slog. More moments of taking a break from the combat.

I 100% agree with this. If it wasn't for the story and characters in the first half of the game I'm not sure I would have made it through. Second half was much more enjoyable in my opinion.

As far as other games, Blue Dragon was a big one. Once the world opens up more to you the game gets quite a bit better.

Assassin's Creed 3 was another. I'm not sure if it would be considered mid-way but the first several hours of the game when you're playing as Haytham were horrible in my opinion. I enjoyed the game much more when I finally got to control Connor.
