Games that would be great in the Cuphead aesthetic?

Some funny Cuphead art I've seen on Twitter the last week:

So any game, then. I'm okay with this.

I want that style... for a game starting Waluigi. We had that sweet Wario animated have..

Why not have a Waluigi one?

Dunno what his motivations would be though.

Maybe his house was accidentally destroyed by aliens and he's in a rampage to get revenge on them? Maybe the aliens could be like Orbulon from Wario Ware? I dunno.

I think anything could be cool with it, but I'd like to see someone take a Guilty Gear/DBZ Fighter approach and see if they can apply it to 3D games where there are camera changes and stuff.

I'd totally play an open world game where everything looked and moved like that.

A 2D Super Mario game that uses the art seen in the manuals of the NES and SNES games, as mostly drawn by the legendary (now retired from Nintendo) Yoichi Kotabe. So essentially this but fully animated:

That would be a dream game for me.

YES. Also, Advance Wars would look amazing with all that 2D animation.

A fighting game that has the entire aesthetic would be cool. Where every character does attacks that wouldn't make sense anywhere other than in an old-timey cartoon.

Skullgirls' Peacock is a good example of this I think but sure, a whole game featuring characters like her would be great indeed. I'd throw in some Looney Tunes / Road Runner style delayed falling etc. as well.
