Games where one particular thing looks really nice

The CUBE of paper right next to the burguer makes it for me. Even the paper below the burger is highly modeled and there is that shit paper with a shit texture that people made in 10 seconds. They didn't even bothered to model the holes in the block of paper

You can be 99% sure the reason the paper looks bad is because of performance reasons. It's clearly a downscaled texture and adding some cylindrical holes is not a lot of effort, but it is a lot of wasted polygons.

Now that is some good ass water.

The explosions in BF, actually just the whole fucking game.

Resident Evil 6

The tastiest looking last-gen steak. In contrast, you have lots of textures like this, straight out of a Quake 3 engine game.

Food is always the highest priority.

Back in the GameCube days, my brother and I would always talk about how good the water looked in Mario Sunshine and Wave Race: Blue Storm. It was super impressive to us.

It amazes me that in amongst all the fantastic water he comments on, there's no Wave Race, which had great interactive water even on the N64.

there was no wave race game to comment on for him. wave race 64 didn't come out on VC until this year.

Doom 2016 has the best looking stone steps I have ever seen in a videogame. Can't find a pic right now but an example would be the steps leading up towards the yellow key door in Kadingir Sanctum. Photorealistic Stone Steps Baby!

That is, games where one visual element looks a lot nicer than anything else in the game.

I remember the walls in Perfect Dark Zero blowing my mind at the time. Remember 10 years ago, when the way to show your game was "next-gen" was to make everything shiny? And bump-mapping, omg!

The rest of the game looked pretty nasty, though.

This so much!!!

PDZ looked so rough, but those walls were amazing at the time.

I remember being enamored with the water in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, on PS2. Like, I knew it was a pretty basic kind of thing, but damn if it wasn't a pleasure to tramp around in it at every opportunity.

I remember a grassy dirt slope in Final Fantasy X that looked oddly photorealistic, more so than anything else in the game.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and it's lighting effects. For the amount that I talk about this game, you would think that I'm an undercover shill... but over ten years later, this games shadows and lighting effects are phenomenally good. Dynamic shadows, dynamic light sources(,sorry, not familiar with the actual jargon). But god damn does it still look good, I'll have to post my super sampled screenshots when I'm off my phone.

Can't find my SS pictures, but this still gets the point across.

The Atlas sphere/orb in No Man's Sky looks pretty cool. The texture and lighting and the way it moves is neat. Most everything else in the game is pretty mediocre.

These rocks near the end of Killzone Shadow Fall always blew me away.

The rest of the game looks good, too. This just made me stare in awe.

God damn.

GG really is great at visuals. Makes me excited that they're finally making something creative (Horizon).

It might not look amazing now, but I always loved the water in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. It is awfully difficult to find a good picture of it though. So here's a video.

You will be humming the song from that area forever.

I don't have a picture right now but the wall texture in the undead burg in dark souls by the bonfire as u climb up the ladder always looked really nice for some reason.

PCSX2 recording, but the effect looks just as good on the PS2

I remember being impressed by this too. It was so good compared to the games I was playing at the time.
