Games where the first boss is the hardest?

I recently played Yakuza 3, and I had a lot hard of a time beating the first boss (the guy with the glasses in Okinawa) then ANY other boss in the game.

Though I assume it's because you have a shit ton more skills and ways of fighting, along with the naturally matured game-playing skills, as you play on.

This guy right here. Took a 18 hour gaming spree to beat him.

Not the first boss - but the skeleton dragon also was pretty hard. Alma was easy compared to those two.

Has there been a game you've played where the first boss in the game was the hardest son of a bitch you faced throughout the entire game?
For me it was Fire Man in

I bought this game with my gamecube and I was kinda excited to play it. But every time I would play the game, the game's first boss would always kill me right off the bat. Whats more frustrating is that if you lose to the first boss, all you saved data gets deleted and you have to repeat the same level over and over again from the start/ can't skip any dialog, cut scenes etc

The boss fight looks simple enough but, it's very cheap.
The game makes it super hard to dodge any of his moves without getting hit by his fire, the slide doesn't work well btw.
The first boss was so hard that it took me 4 years before I finally beat the fucker

Fuck you asshole

Then after 4 years, I randomly played the game and beat the fucker, and I finally made progress in the game. For a long period of time, I regretted the purchase of the game so many times because of the first boss, but after I beat fire man, the whole game was a breeze and very fun, I beat the game in like 2 weeks after I beat Fire Man

Protoman and Bass's existence make me want to say this is wrong. Still, who the fuck though having a first boss that two shots you was a good idea?

maybe I'm just bad at JRPGs but it took me like 3 hours of grinding just to beat him
even with bufu, his weakness

I'm not sure if he counts as the first boss but if he does that's my answer.

Fuck that guy.

I'd hate to see how you handled Medusa.

Medusa was easy when you constantly hit her wih Zan and have a demon resistant to gun damage personally.

At least in my case getting past Minotaur was entirely luck. I had bufu attacks, a healer, and buffed my defense and evasion to max while also having a physical resisting demon, and yet he just went "lol no" and did his attack that hits multiple party members, which would lead into him getting a critical + smirk, which lead to a chain of constant deaths. Of the multiple times I fought him, my strategy never changed and was always about to kill him until he did that, the only reason I beat him is because he didn't get a smirk.

Cerberus from DMC3 is the first that springs to mind. died so many times on him. then went on easy mode. still died a bunch more times.

The Cerberus in DMC3. Could not fucking beat that thing back when it came up. Don't think I ever did until the HD remaster came out on PS3

Also that fucking dog in Witcher 1. Have never been able to beat to this day.

Vile shouldn't count because you're suppose to lose. Technically you "win" because it advances the plot.

That's the joke, though. :P

In all seriousness, though, I can't really think of anything myself. Though I guess that boss in Sonic 2 Game Gear was pretty tricky...maybe? I'm not sure if I ever beat it or not. It's been in a long time since I've played it, so I can't remember. Maybe I'll do that now...I'm bored, and I haven't used my Game Gear in a good while, so I may as well.

As for DMC3, Cerberus was hard, but the difficulty peaked in context to your powerups/health with Agni & Rudra.

Castlevania Lords Of Shadow

The werewolf boss was incredibly hard with the lack of abilities your character had at that point in the game.

Not the first boss, but the one that came to mind for me too.

Tempted to say Super Valis IV, but that whole game is so hard that I don't think I ever made it past the second stage without a Game Genie.

As for DMC3, Cerberus was hard, but the difficulty peaked in context to your powerups/health with Agni & Rudra.

Screw those guys, I think they shortened my life by a couple of months and I was playing the special edition which is supposed to be easier.

Witcher 1:

This guy's a real motherfucker, especially coming at a point when you still don't really have any idea what you're doing with oils, potions, fighting stances, etc. The Kayran in Witcher 2 wasn't hard so much as just trial-and-error frustrating, but Letho was a beast. It must have taken me about ten tries to get him, because it's so easy to get hit by his attacks even if you're nowhere near him.

I just got to this fight about twenty minutes ago. The unskippable cutscene immediately prior doesn't help. I really want to finish the rest of it, but right now I'm in "fuck this game" mode.

Try using Aard on the beast. You can stun it which opens it up for a finisher.

While not the first boss, Gattuso from Tales of Vesperia was stupidly hard for how early in the game you fight him. It's even worse because in the game's demo he was a total pushover.

This 100%. I died less at later super-bosses (if at all) than I did against this guy (and it's made just slightly worse if you chose to do the Secret Mission). I think it's a problem of the resources you have at the time: None of the items heal a lot (as opposed to later items/spells), and the experience by that point isn't very good at all so grinding isn't an ideal option.

Nightmare - Devil May Cry

Cerberus - Devil May Cry 3

Particularly the latter. Bastard took me ages to beat, but little did I know that once he was down I was ready for anything the game could throw at me.
